Portland City Grill Ratings and Reviews
Always have excellent food and service at the Portland City Grill, and this occasion was no exception. I particularly enjoyed the varied and interesting selections available on the menu. At our table, we had a variety of dishes, which everyone truly enjoyed. We had the most excellent waiter, who was knowledgeable, helpful and funny. He really added to the pleasure of our evening.
My 7 year old grandson and I had the absolute best time at Portland City Grill! We celebrated my birthday and it was a special pre-Nutcracker dinner. Derby, the general manager, treated this first special occasion for my grandson so beautifully! The view was amazing! My ahi was incredible! My grandson’s Mac and cheese and Shirley Temple were perfect for him! Danny was our waiter and he was so kind and so attentive! It was such a delightful treat - and Darby made it extra memorable!!! Thank you!
The food is outstanding- even though it is your basic fare i.e., steak, fish, etc. I enjoyed the red snapper and rice with veggies and a glass of Malbec. A friend ordered steak (M) and commented that it melted in his mouth. The birthday girl opted for a sushi roll and loved it. We were all pleasantly full with the portion size. We were (there for a 16th birthday dinner) treated with wonderful service. We landed an amazing window seat which is prime restaurant real estate and received all of our orders in good time - no edits necessary. This was a Friday night about 6:30p and it was pretty packed- reservations are a must (if not required). The noise level was moderate, employees friendly and parking validated.
The value is excellent for special occasions. In my opinion, it is a touch high for what you are getting, although I have managed fine dining restaurants in New York so my perception may be skewed. Overall, the place is gorgeous and worth it! My favorite is the Happy Hour. We will be revisiting soon.
I ordered the Ribeye steak dinner. I was not pleased with the taste of the mashed potatoes . I also did not appreciate being sat next to the kitchen. This restaurant is average with average service and above avergage menu you are paying for the view that's all. I wouldn't recommend.
We dined at Portland City Grill at 6:30 pm on a Saturday. Didn't know there was parking that can be verified until the waiter told us. The view was nice at the 30th floor. We reserved 2 months in advance for a birthday dinner. It's weird how they don't reserve window seating but I find it weird how there were several empty seats near the window as we sat down somewhere else. Pricing was alright, each plate had a strong taste besides the Peking duck and chicken. They did forget to add birthday decorations on our table and I had to remind a waiter as I saw other tables already had it set up before arriving. Overall a good environment, very confusing with all the moving in and checking in.
Our first time to Portland and we decided to try this restaurant...we enjoyed our meal immensely! Our crab and prawn appetizer was delicious! The wagyu and boneless rib eye were so delicious, we ate them up! Service was excellent! View was the best! Everything was great!
I was both disappointed and satisfied with dining at Portland City Grill.
1. upon making dinner reservations for our 10th anniversary I requested a window seat, only to find after completing the reservation that PCG doesn't honor seating requests and that they are first come first served;
2. upon entering the restaurant there is no guidance as where to check in, since there are at least 2 check in points and no-one is around to assist.
After a short wait to be seated, after declining to wait & drink at the bar for at least an hour until a window seat would became available, staff did make sure to congratulate us on our anniversary. Wait staff was helpful, courteous, and knowledgeable.
The wine list contains many local wines, and the options for food were great as well. As far as quality goes, it does not rank among the great steak houses, but it's close. It is clear that the main attraction for dining at PCG is the view.
All in all, we'd still recommend this restaurant for anyone who likes good steak, good wines, and a view of downtown Portland.
We will probably not return; our search for a comparable steakhouse in the PDX area to Cabernet (in Alpharetta, GA) is still on.
Great food, great views, great service. 3 of us went, and all agreed every course was amazing. My personal opinion they have the best steaks in Portland. And no doubt the best views. Service was great and fantastic wine selection. All you can ask for in a restaurant.
We dined there for a special occasion. Unfortunately, it took a quite a long time to get our starters (soups and salad). The halibut dishes a few of us ordered were dry and overcooked. For the price, I expect better food and better timing of first course. It's just ok, not a good value for what you get.
I always enjoy taking friends and family to Portland City Grill to celebrate special occasions and to see the fabulous view from the 30th floor. Underground parking is convenient and validated. The standards are always excellent and the seasonal and specials are also nice. Enough variety for every palate except maybe vegan. Fun and interesting cocktails and nice wine and beer selection.
We went the day after Thanksgiving and while the experience was pleasant, nothing stood out for me. I had the American Wagyu sirloin and had it prepared'medium' (chef's recommendation) - it was average. On the plus side, service was quick, prices are reasonable and everyone in my party had a pleasant time.
We have enjoyed dining here a few times for special occasions, but we are disappointed with our most recent experience. We wanted to wait for a window table, but were told this would be impossible. Our party of four was seated at a five top, making intimate conversation difficult. Not long after we were seated, we noticed a four top available very close to the windows, and within minutes, tables began to open up next to the windows. We were very disappointed with the lack of regard for our requests. One redeeming factor was the warmth and professionalism of our server. Our experience certainly did not match what we were expected to pay.
Food was excellent. My filet was cooked perfectly and my girlfriends "surf and turf" was great. Little overpriced but good. Only complaint I had requested a window seat when booking a month in advance. Got there and no way I could get a window b/c they were 1st come 1st serve and since they were closing seating in 45 minutes. Whole reason we went was for view of city over dinner since its a top floor. Had a terrible table right as u walk in the place.
I expected the City Grill to be a very mainstream “Republican” dining experience, and it definitely appeared to be on the surface. But the food was surprisingly excellent. And it kind of has to be to survive in Portland’s outsized foodie/restaurant community.
