A beautiful fun place. Food was very good but not quite special enough for the prices. I had a Wagyu steak and while it was quite good it wasnt special. Also had a duck confit appetizer that could have been a chicken leg. Service was very, very good and I would like to compliment Wesley for his efforts.
To be honest, it was mostly disappointing. The ceviche special was served with this cracker that was so thick it was hard to bite through without the whole thing shattering and the spice level was so intense, with the excessive amounts of jalapeños you couldn't taste the subilty of the fresh fish. Which I believe is the main event of a ceviche. I've had many a ceviche. The beet salad my mother and I ordered was a giant pile of soggy unappetizing mush that was covered in pink peppercorns. So much so that was all you could taste. The server kindly offered to get the kitchen to make another one with less peppercorns. It arrived looking just as sad as the other with slightly less peppercorn. Then he offered more fresh cracked pepper!....sigh. I declined. Still could taste nothing but pepper. I picked at it for a bit but then decided not to eat it and my mother left most of hers and the server didn't even offer to take at least one of these salad messes off our bill. That was a bit disappointing on his part but the rest of the service was good. My steak was very rare and I ordered it med rare. For a grill house I was surprised they didn't have that down pat but after the salad thing I wasn't going to send another thing back. The side of mushrooms we ordered were chewy as if they were sitting in the fridge for way past due then they were cooked. Unfortunately my husbands dish was less than stellar too with the mass amounts of grainy mustard and over cooked dried out potato bits which he wasn't too sure what it was until the end.
This is the first long negative review I've ever left. I've worked in casual fine dining for over a decade and been travelling to many restaurants. So I'm not new at this. Considering the price of all these dishes I was surprised with the outcome. Maybe it was an off night because my mother has been a few times before and loved it. Out of the four people dining. Only one enjoyed their dish.
I do hate leaving such a negative review.
Great service, view at 30th floor was spectacular and we weren’t overwhelmed by the bill, good value
Took my date to Prom to Portland City Grill expecting a flawless experience. Unfortunately after waiting 40 minutes for our meals we were told that the kitchen had made a mistake on our order. I would have liked to have been informed of this in a timely fashion. My date and I were on a schedule and needed to leave. The manager came over and deeply apologized for the mistake and went out of his way to make it right. I didn’t expect this to happen at the Portland City Grill, but I’m glad the manager tried to make it right. We wish we could have enjoyed our meal more but we were in a rush to leave. We had not anticipated this happening and felt rushed (not by the staff) to leave and head on to our prom.
We are from out of town and always look forward to stopping by and eating the restaurant with the best view in Portland!
Awesome dinner. Happy anniversary sprinkles all over the table. Great window seat. Couldn't have asked for anything better!
Portland City Grill obviously has terrific views as well as having a pleasing decor. The wait staff consists of well trained professionals who are very attentive.
My wife and I celebrated our 17th Anniversary at the Grill on April 20. The dinner was amazing and our server was incredible. Her knowledge of the menu and service was top tier. Our complements to the chef's as well! My wife ordered the Sirloin & Salmon Oscar and I had the Sirloin. The steaks were cooked perfectly to our liking and the side veggies were incredible! We also have to thank the the host/front desk team. They were able to accommodate our window table request which you have to do! It's great for a dinner date or to just come up and have drinks because you can't beat the view!!
Lunch was so much fun. It was my sister’s birthday and I think she really enjoyed her meal and loved the view. I made a reservation and got an amazing table with a spectacular view and the food and service were awesome. I can’t wait to go back. I hadn’t been in years but it was so worth the price!
Very welcoming!
Great place to celebrate a birthday.
The view is very nice and it’s a good place to take out of town guests for this reason. I was entertaining guests from out of town and was very embarrassed. The salad we ordered was awful! The server was quite rude. It was not a very busy evening and we felt very rushed. I don’t think I will return.
Food was fantastic, service was great highly recommend
Excellent food and excellent view or city. Rack of lamb was terrific.
I think people go there for the view. Certainly not for the food. Very disappointed in the lack of attention to detail. All the buffet plates were warm and made my salad/fruit plate wilted. Also the cold seafood on a warmed dinner plate was unappetizing. We went in the waiters station and took small plates to get condiments to share (cocktail sauce, lemons). Had to ask for spoons for yogurts day hand wipes after cracking crab. Service was good and we weren’t rushed. So it was ok but very expensive for what is offered.
My husband and I frequently dine at the brunch at Portland City Grill. It’s actually one of our favorite places to go. We decided to bring my brother and sister in law to celebrate the announcement of them having a baby.
We had a party of 10, which they added 18% gratuity to our bill, which wasn’t a problem as we always tip. The problem lies in the service. We have NEVER had such horrible service. EVER! Like I said, we frequently have brunch here. Our server was Autumn. I guess since she already knew she was getting her 18% tip from our table, that meant she didn’t need to assist us with ANYTHING.
People at our table waited over 15 minuets to get juice and coffee. We had to find other wait staff to assist us, which they PROMPTLY got what we asked for. Like in less than 40 seconds. Then it literally took her 27 minuets to get our bill once we asked for it.
Sadly, it deterred our other family members from returning.
My husband and myself still love the place, however, our service was so horrible this trip, it may be a while before we return.
Our over all experience was amazing. We weren't able to get a window seat, but even though we didn't we still really enjoyed the restaurant. The food is outstanding. The fillet was extremely juicy and tender. Asparagus and mash potatoes were delicious. The complimentary bread is nice, warm and fluffy. We were celebrating our anniversary so they decorated the table for us. Also, they gave us a complimentary desert and put "Happy Anniversary" on it which was super sweet. Our waitress was extremely friendly and right now. She made sure we had our drinks and food on time and kept checking on us to make sure we were enjoying our experience. If you are visiting Portland, this restaurant is a MUST GO for sure. It's perfect for any type of celebration and special occasions.
Overall it was an amazing time and experience! 😄 Can’t wait to go back!
We had not been in years and so glad we did. We opted for a light dinner from the appetizer menu and enjoyed all of the variety. Chef had a special halibut and shrimp ceviche special that was fantastic and very very fresh! We also enjoyed the California roll, Spring Rolls and steamed clams. Our waiter was wonderful, considerate of our pace, and very knowledgeable of the menu and wine list selections. People were waiting up to an hour for a window seat; we sat in the center of the restaurant and enjoyed a beautiful view without the wait.
Great place to eat with a view. Very pricey $$ for what you get.
The food was so interesting and tasty!! And of course the view was unbelievable! Somehow we got a nice window seat and it made a great meal even better!
Must do if new to the city! Amazing views of the city from the 30th floor, excellent menu and top notch experience! Five star experience without any pretentiousness!
Always enjoy celebrating a special occasion here. Food was great and our family had a wonderful evening together. Great wine menu and not overpriced
The Calamari was ridiculously good! The view was amazing and the Halibut was incredible. Other than that is was just fantastic :)
Good view but the food was just OK.
Excellent view. Very romantic. Great service and great food!
The view is amazing. Service is excellent. Food is good but pricey.
Fantastic location for Sunday Brunch. Food is spectacular, as is the view. Really nice for a special occasion or just a friends get together.
Always great food. We flew in from Denver for our birthday dinner. Izzy, our waiter, by far the best we have ever experienced at any restaurant. Give that guy a raise and praise, he deserves every bit of it.
Decided to try out Portland City Grill for my husband's birthday...great choice for a celebration! Our table was decorated with birthday confetti and a signed card from the managers (plus a yummy chocolate mousse dessert at the end). Even though we didn't get a coveted window seat, we could still enjoy the view from a table one off (plus it was rainy!). The service and the food were EXCELLENT! we did get the steamer clams to start, so we were happy with the entree portions. The short ribs were divine!!! Paella flavorful and full of good stuff, and the clams were just right. Perfect start to another year!
Really good and respectful server
Anniversary date for the wife and I. We had a great dinner and a great evening.
Was disappointed with the food. Maybe our selection wasn't good. The beef ribs were tinder but way too sweet. The lobster was so so. The duck appetizer and Caesar salad were excellent though.
Tanner was fabulous!
The service was excellent and personable, the food was almost spectacularly delicious.
Pleasant and respectful wait staff. Also love Sunday brunch. You will be on time for any event you will be attending.
We came here for my wife’s birthday and from out of state. Nice scenic view of the waterfront. We had reservation and got their early. We sat at the bar and were given menus. I asked for a beer since the bartender never asked what we wanted. We wanted to get some appetizers, but the bartender didn’t ask if we wanted anything else. We then were shown our table by an employee. Our server was very good and checked us on several occasions. The food was good. We also were able to order some appetizers. Our seating area was perfect with a nice view of the waterfront.
Getting married in a few weeks. Went out on a date night and very much enjoyed the experience. Cost is high but so is the experience and the food is excellent!!!
Wonderful service at each stage (reservations changed and were accommodated several times - thank you!) made it a special event for my dad's 73rd birthday!
The food was very good, and Service was great. As an older couple, we really appreciated the soft music, which allowed us to carry on a normal conversation without having to shout into one another's ears! We were also there to talk with the event coordinator, Stepanie, who did a great job showing us the Jefferson Room where we will have both our simple wedding ceremony as well as a luncheon reception in a couple of months. Menu choices, ability to customize for our special occasion, the lovely room, spectacular view from two sides of the room, the very moderate price for such service, and lovely surroundings made this a very easy choice to make from among many venues in the area. We are confident that everything will be just as we have planned because the staff at Portland City Grill provide professional, efficient and friendly service.
