Portico Restaurant & Lounge Ratings and Reviews
We were seated right away. Our server was polite, friendly and did not rush us at all...just the right level of attention. The menu is a bit limited but the dishes all sounded awesome. Our server was very knowledgeable about the ingredients. I ordered the chicken and my husband the fish and chips. My chicken was superb. Not overly spiced, and cooked to perfection. My husband liked his dish. Not loved, liked. There was no tartar sauce for the fish and he wasn't overly impressed with the coating but it was okay. The rest of his dish was good. We had a coffee each to finish up and there was a nice biscotti added to the side of our cup. A nice quiet place, great service & good food!
The food was actually amazing. And quite large portions which is becoming rare in Toronto. I believe Portico's claim of "luxurious decor" and ambiance is overstated. The decor is average. But the service was excellent in spite of our rushing to get to the theatre. The smoked salmon appetizer and lamb were absolute hits.
Our group became frustrated with the extra long wait time between ordering and receiving our drinks.
Over 45 minute wait for food and there were customers who ordered after us and received their meal first. When the meal came it was a disappointment- you could tell the fish from the fish and chips was from frozen.
Our table waited over 15 minutes to order more drinks and it took another 10 to get them.
Server forgot second beverage and had to be asked repeatedly for bill.
Overall it was mediocre service and poor food quality.
Our server, Rene, was terrific. He said he'd been with the hotel for 18 years, and many of the employees had been there even longer. That speaks volumes for the establishment. Executive Chef Chris was generous enough to divulge his wonderful Kale Caesar Salad recipe. A lovely evening.
We really enjoyed the corn bisque and various versions of fish for dinner...all very tasty!
Looking forward to sampling the black cod listed on your website menu once the season allows.
Our waitress was attentive and friendly. A great place to eat before the theatre.
I am always a bit concerned about eating in a hotel as prices generally are inflated for value. However, I feel differently about Portico. We ate there on a Wednesday evening prior to going to the theatre. My friend had the salmon which was flavourful, and perfectly cooked. I had the pork loin, which was very tasty and perfectly cooked. (We skipped starters as we would be sitting in the theatre for hours.) Waiter was attentive, although dinner was slow in coming despite so few people. Ambience is relaxing but classy. Recommended.
Heading to an evening event and was looking for a restaurant in the area -- decided to try Portico as it had a varied menu and was in the neighbourhood. Unfortunately, they have changed the menu (it is much more limited than what is shown on OpenTable) and the food was quite mediocre. Wait staff was very attentive (restaurant only had 3-4 tables occupied).
My mum was visiting from the UK and I booked here for my birthday after reading good reviews on OpenTable. The service was excellent. The wine list is very weak with not many options - surprising for a hotel restaurant. The presentation of the food was very good, and most of the food was delicious, with one strange reservation - I had the risotto and very carefully asked if it was made today, but I guess I wasn't careful enough because I basically had seafood with rice. I know Risotto is hard to make, I've made it myself, but it's unmistakable from plain rice, and I was very surprised the chef would allow that out of the door. Perhaps Portico needs to take Risotto off the menu.
Took a friend for a quick lunch during the work week and service was fantastic. We wanted to share two different entrees and our server made sure everything was plated separately and served one after the other. Water glass was always kept topped up and the food was delicious and the service quick (we only had an hour). It's great to go to a place where you can actually have a conversation and hear one another at the table.
Surprisingly good - I've walked by many times and not noticed this restaurant so thanks to Open Table we went and we were VERY happy. It's not pretentious although it's very modernly attired. Server was very attentive - I appreciate that water and wine glasses are filled by server the second they need to be refilled.
Wine list not extensive but has something for everyone's tastes.
I would recommend for location, price, service and a quiet place to have a business meeting.
