Porterhouse Steak and Seafood - Little Canada Ratings and Reviews
i made a reservation and was surprised when the hostess was going to seat us in the lounge room. no---too noisy so after a 5-10 min wait we were seated in the dining room. i think that we might be placed in the lounge would be said when making a reservation.
A great memory was made here. Now we will be returning as often as possible. The food was great. All in all it is the best steak I've had. A great way to celebrate a birthday. I surprised my girlfriend for her birthday and we now have a place we both want to return too!
We celebrated our anniversary here for the 2nd year in a row. We normally do not eat much red meat except for special occasions. We each had a fillet mignon, medium rare. The steaks were perfectly cooked and delectable. Since the restaurant knew that this was an anniversary celebration, they provided us with a complimentary dessert cake.
Great dinner and on time reservation considering it was New Years. Great value on the special (steak -9 oz. and lobster-6 oz.). I was a little hesitate but it was a generous portion and very good. it also included a split shrimp cocktail and crème beule, full size salad and side potato and complimentary glass of champagne --$125 and you get a $25 GC for future use--WOW!! Service was very good too. Would like to see this classic place get a little facelift on the décor but then it might lose a little of the classic feel.
Server was unfriendly and not very engaging. We might just have gotten unlucky as it seemed like other servers there were polite and wanted to make the experience pleasant. Barbecue wrapped shrimp must have finished well before my filet did as it was cold. Steak and mash potatoes were good.
Food was great which is the norm & service by the hostess as well as the wait staff (Eleanor) made you feel welcome. Usually get their filet which is extremely tasty no matter which size you order. Would like the kitchen staff to serve Au Gratin potato's for another choice. There combo's are also an excellent choice & provide another lunch the following day either at home or at work as the portions are usually guite large.
First time visit on a birthday for a man that loves his steak bloody rare - really rare. Unfortunately, the two attempts at that failed. No blood on the plate which is what was desired. My liver and onions was very good and so was a friend's salmon. Her husband's ribeye, which was done as he liked, medium rare, apparently was "grizzly." So, overall it was 2 thumbs up for the women's meals, and 2 thumbs down for the men's steak meals. Sorry.
Celebrating our friends birthday, and early New Years celebration. Food was perfect as well as the Brandy Alexander’s, made the old fashioned way ! Our server, Asia (?) was wonderful! Very lovely person that knew when not to interrupt our conversation, & did not rush us .
we got together with dear friends on wed dec 20 and the staff was VERY accommodating with us needing to change tables, that was MOST appreciated; the shrimp cocktail was delicious, and my salmon was the best I've had .. my friend's Cosmo blew her away .. I can't speak for the others .. but, let me just say ALL of our plates were clean when the night was over .. so, I'm thinking all were very happy with their selection .. it would be nice if the bread could be served warm! a great time was had by all! : ) This is the place to go for gift cards .. it's a great special get away for fancy or casual. Family and Friends will thank you! And, I say THANK YOU to the staff of Porterhouse, Little Canada!
Overall food was excellent except for my ribeye steak which was over cooked. You need to find a better balance between medium rare and medium. Medium rare is too bloody and medium seems to be more well done. This is the second time for me this has happened. Would have asked for a different steak but it was extremely busy and it would have taken too long for a new one.
Server was excellent
Porterhouse is usually our "go to" spot for a good steak and/or seafood dinner. Our dining experience last Saturday night was wonderful once again as far as the service and food. However, it was one of the most unpleasant dining experience we have ever had as far as enjoying our evening out. There was a table of 8 right next to us (4 men at the end closest to our table and 4 women at the other end (perhaps late 50's early 60's in age.)They had obviously been drinking for quit some time. As soon as we were seated we noticed how loudly they were talking and laughing...mostly at the same time...and using extremely vulgar and offensive language. This escalated into such a disturbing level that even the waitress was embarrassed. All of the tables around them we're looking at them pleadingly and it seemed they wold just increase the volume once they saw how disturbed we all were. We were surprised that the Maitre D did not come over and ask them to subdue it a bit. Finally, after over 30 minutes of their disturbance my husband leaned over and told them to keep it down. They turned to us, looking drunkenly insulted, and basically ended up ignoring my husband. They were totally obnoxious, and at one point, one of the men looked over at our table and mouthed an expletive deleted at me. We were very disappointed that no one in authority at Porterhouse took control of the situation and requested that they stop disturbing all of the guests within earshot of them.
The New Zealand lamb chops were absolutely extraordinary and we are severe judges of that item. The scallop starter also was outstanding. It is a little noisy but not totally disturbing - we had no problem conversing. In addition it was a good value in cost.
