Had heard really good things but was disappointed in the meal itself. The plate was hot and the fish entree was hot, but for both my wife and me the starch/vegetables/accompaniments to the entree were barely warm. The fish itself (I had the special Sea Bass and my wife had the King Salmon) was excellent and otherwise it was a nice evening. Excellent guitarist and soloist in the lobby who we enjoyed listening to after dinner. We did breakfast there the next morning and it was excellent.
Wait staff was great and tentative. Food was comparable to an Applebee’s and overpriced. Good kid options. I had the red pepper linguine and it had no taste and had a few macaroni noodles mixed in which makes me wonder how they prepare the food. I prefer the winery which is expensive but so worth it.
Incredible views from the dining room. The menu isn’t anything to write home about.
We had an excellent dinner and the waitstaff was fabulous. They also have a wonderful kid’s menu for those 12 and under. It was a fantastic meal with an awesome view!
Food was good service a bit slow and forgetful wait staff. You don’t have a selection of good teas on hand decaf is not good when one asks for earl gray. Water was not refilled and wrong food brought to table. Clearly a lot of confusion
View is unbeatable, giant windows overlook gorgeous scenery
Food was good. Service was great, and the view was amazing.
We visit Suncadia twice a year and I was very disappointed in the change change in quality of the food. The prices have stayed the same but the quality of the food has gone down to what you would except from a fast food drive thru.
The service was very attentive and friendly and we were seated near the window with an outstanding view of the area. The drinks were very prompt and well made and accommodated my wife's health issues. The food was very tasty and a nice portion of everything. The restaurant was not crowded when we were there so there was no noise issue at all. A nice venue for a well made dinner!
The window table with the view was excellent. All four meals were fair at best. Would probably never return. Our experience was a very noisy atmosphere.
Completely enjoyed our experience, The staff were ver attentive.
We arrived to Portals with a reservation that I had booked about a month in advance. Check in was very unorganized. They were not prepared to seat us and it took some time to figure this out. We were even escorted to a table only to be turned around and said it was a mistake, and we needed to wait in the lobby until our true table was ready. We were visiting on Father's Day and anticipated things would be busy, so we were understanding of the small delay in being seated. However, the experience did not get better. My mug for coffee had a lipstick stain on it from a previous diner. They also would not serve breakfast to us since the morning rush was too busy and they essentially ran out of food (our reservation was for 11:00am on a Sunday, we certainly assumed breakfast or brunch would be an option at this time on Father's Day). We were pointed towards the lunch menu. Then, our food took a VERY long time to arrive and one of the food items was completely burned and inedible so this needed to be reordered. Our server was great, very apologetic and was admirably trying to turn around our experience. However, I was very underwhelmed by Portals. The experience and food were disappointing and this is not my first time feeling this way. As my last several dining experiences have been similar to this, I am now taking the time to right a review. Portals is in a fabulous location and the restaurant is beautiful. I remember visiting for the first time in 2012 and the meal was truly phenomenal. I'm not sure what the cause of the downturn is but I'm really hoping things shape up.
I was taken there for my 50th Bday dinner. I had the salad that had the prawns and salmon in it and it was very mediocre and my dad had the buffalo that was very grissley, so not really impressive at all. While the brussel sprout appetizer was amazing as was the birthday dessert that was recommended by our server was soooooo good. The bread at the beginning was the best ever. So, while the meals themselves were not that great, so many other things were. The service, the view, the ambiance and the appetizers and bread will bring me back, I just now know the items on the menu I wont order. Thank you.
You can't beat the view and the food is wonderful as well. Unfortunately, while the restaurant was not very busy the service was very poor. Felt rushed to give order, had to remind server for drinks and no one checked on us after food was served until the check came.
Good food and view made it worth it but don't expect 5 star service.
We eat here often, the view is amazing, the food is good and for the price you’re paying it would be nice if you didn’t have to flag down your waiter or waitress to get a refill on a cocktail
The food was pretty basic. We ordered dessert and had to send back because the Doughnuts were cooked in oil that was used to make onion rings. They only took the dessert charge off the bill (which we only took one bite of) originally. Then later took a small discount. The view is incredible, the food and service was forgettable.
A wonderful bur
Very pleasant staff. The kitchen was a bit slow as we waited probably 30 minutes or more between our starter salad and entrees. However the ambiance was pleasant - sunny day, beautiful view, beverages - and therefore the wait passed pleasantly.
Lots of kids with other guests brought the noise level up some, but everyone was well behaved. We were there on a Thursday evening and I believe Portals may be the only dinner restaurant open mid-week on property except for Swiftwater winery.
Our food was very tasty: Steak, Elk shepherd pie, berry cobbler.
As we left, the outdoor fire pit was lit and a group was gathering around the surrounding seats. It looked cozy.
Small nit - I would expect a 4 star location cleaning crew to be a bit more detailed. The beautiful view was marred by the semi successful attempt to clean the big bank of windows overlooking the valley. A squeegee is needed to avoid the big circular rubbing marks on the window that the streaming sunlight makes very visible.
The perfect meeting place for family from Seattle and Yakima. Beautiful landscape where every segment of the population comes together to enjoy nature combined with elegant dining and lodging. Something for everyone.
Went for Mother's Day brunch. Service was a bit slow initially but once we were seated, folks were very attentive. The buffet appeared nice and was displayed well. After getting our plates we realized the food had been sitting out for some time. The eggs, meats and other
"hot" selections were cold and should have been replenished hours ago. The fruit trays were very nice as was the seafood and desserts. The serving utensils should have been attended to as many were covered with food and not usable. As we left the restaurant the center seating area of the Lodge had tables FULL of previous patrons leftover food and drinks scattered on every table so there was not a place to sit and enjoy the ambiance. We drove from the Seattle area to have brunch at Portals, after spending over $200 for 3 of us, it was a bit disappointing.
We recently celebrated our 24th Wedding Anniversary at Suncadia, and dined at The Portals. Everything was lovely, the food choices were great, the staff made everything special. Excellent for a romantic getaway, a relaxing getaway, or even a getaway with your children. Very family friendly, yet our romantic weekend was perfect, too !
Great food and service. Had some unique dinner specials that were very good ie pot roast dinner
My friends and I stayed at suncadia for 2 nights. We ate at Portals 4 times during our stay. Not only was the food delicious, every time, the waiters/waitresses were great. Some stood out more than others. There were several people dressed up for the night and dressed down just eating dinner. There were several families as well.
It was great except seated next to crying baby after calling ahead to inform that it was a dinner before a proposal.
The table was outfitted with extra flowers and candles and that was nice. We also had a great view from our table.
Food was ok, service was ok and drinks were ok. The restaurant just fell a little short for the resort.
After reading some previous reviews I was unsure how Portals would be. The food was fantastic and the service was pretty good. I heard that they got a new executive chef who has improved the menu!
Spectacular view. Excellent breakfast. Service was agonizing.
Good food but the service was poor.
Our Valentine's dinner was superb... everything off the VDay 2018 menu was scrumptiously delectable ( mouth watering explosion of flavors that leave you wanting more). Thank you to James, who was an excellent sever.
We had an excellent meal here, nicely presented also. I was surprised how many kids were in the restaurant though. For the most part they were all well behaved, but takes a little away from a romantic evening out.
The food was excellent. The taste, plating and serving. The only thing I can say is we ordered a bottle of wine but it was not in stock.
Really slow service, forgot the pasta noodles in the pasta (yep, just sauce), burnt one sandwich and the other was cold.
Beautiful views & delicious food! Lots of fun for any type of dinner ( fancy or casual)
We had a wonderful experience at Portals Restaurant. The food was great and had really good, friendly service.
Loved the view and the cozy fire. We had dinner and breakfast. The environment is quite amazing. The large windows made us feel like we were in a snow globe as we watched the beautiful snow fall.
The food was good but not fantastic. I would come back for dinner but for the price, probably not breakfast.
The property at Suncadia is really amazing and the people were friendly and helpful. We might try an early Fall visit next time to capture a different season.
The food was mediocre. Service was great and it’s a beautiful place but we went there for good food and left disappointed.
Family dinner. Very nice
Breakfast not as good as the Dinner.
I've been to Portals many times and really enjoy it. Unfortunately, the frittata this time had so much pepper I would believe an explanation that includes the lid falling off the pepper. The frittata and a side of toast served two of us really nicely. Service was lovely and the food is normally quite good.
