Porkchop - Hyde Park Ratings and Reviews
I enjoyed the food. It was good, but not as good as its hyped up to be. And it arrived at the table a little cold. I didn’t get my drink until we were almost done eating, and it sucked. It was butter and watered down, but since we were going to leave soon, I didn’t care to get another. I would give it another chance, though. Hopefully the overall experience will be better.
We dined at Porkchop - Hyde Park because we wanted a good, sit-down, bbq dinner. I was apprehensive because our visits to their South Suburban location had been very disappointing but we heard nothing but wonderful things about this Chicago location so...we gave it a try.
Porkchop - Hyde Park was fantastic! We were not disappointed. The bbq was on point, from the ribs to the pulled pork sandwich. I had a Melon Mule, which is a melon-flavored version of a Moscow Mule, and it was excellent. I would recommend ordering the cornbread as well. Consider it a "must have" on your visit. Our server was great and very attentive. This is a cozy location, delightfully decorated, and a great place to kick back with good food and good friends. We will gladly return to Porkchop- Hyde Park.
Most importantly, the food was very good. We enjoyed gumbo, pulled chicken house salads and cornbread. Everything was delicious, with nice presentation. The service was good, with staff working together to deliver meals promptly. The only concern was that they were out of bottled beer, and we got the last two bottles of root beer, making us think there was an issue with their beverage supplier. That said, I would go back, and would like to try some of their BBQ.
Ordered shrimp and cheese grits. Grits was not as cheesy. Only had (3) shrimps added to bowl.... my fiancé ordered ribs. The ribs was not cut up and were dry. The fries were greasy and the macaroni and cheese was very nasty.
This was are first visit and was not all that impressed.
I went here with friends to test "Chicago BBQ", and was very pleased. We each ordered a different plate and shared. Beef tips, ribs, and brisquet were all incredible, as well as martinis, bourbon and beer. This is a comfortable spot tucked into Hyde Park worth traveling to.
They didn't have our reservation but did find a table for us. It was pretty smokey in the bar as if something had burned. The fried okra was amazing and the brisket as always was awesome on the others people plates. Mine was pretty fatty and thin but everyone else enjoyed theirs.
My wife and I take our 3 boys here from time to time when I have a hankering for barbecue. There's not a kids' menu, but we do fine ordering appetizers (e.g., mac & cheese) and sharing plates. We see other families there, so I guess you could say it's "kid-friendly," though definitely not "kids-oriented."
We were at the new Bolingbrook location and I wish we would have read the reviews first. This location is NO BETTER. Ordered an ice tea but the machine was broke, this location has only been open for 8 days and already has broken equipment! Had the gumbo soup which was good flavor not to spicy but boiling hot. My meal of bbq ribs & fries came out. about 5 minutes before my husbands pulled pork sandwich. The ribs (House SPECIALITY) were covered in NO KIDDING an entire bottle of sauce the fries were cold and looked like they were cooked yesterday, I asked for new fries and the waitress looked confused as to why I wanted more fries since my plate was full of them. Finally my husbands dinner came out with a fresh order of fries and a side of cole slaw that was frozen. yes the cole slaw had ice crystals in it. My husband commented that the cole slaw was colder than t. he beer. The ribs , once I scrapped off the bottle of sauce I saw why they had so much, they were burnt and dry and stringy The pulled pork sandwich well that was tender and flavorful but so greasy that it soaked thur the pretzel roll and was sitting in a pool of grease. Lets just say Lesson learned will NOT GO BACK OR RECOMMEND , Don't think they will make it out here in the burbs. Want good ribs go to Portillos . the Patio, Mickeys anywhere else .
I really wanted to provide a good review and say I would recommend. Sadly I cannot. While the staff was nice, the atmosphere was fun, and the food for the most part was very good, there were a couple significant things that happened that somewhat ruined the experience. 1. Server spilled two plates of our food on the floor, much of it getting on my daughter's boyfriend's $180 pair of new shoes and his jeans. 2. My daughter found a very long hair in her pulled pork sandwich. While the spilling of the food was an accident and those two items were discounted on the bill and my daughter's food was replaced and we were not charged for her food, other than providing my daughter's boyfriend with club soda to wipe off his now stained $180 pair of shoes nothing was done to compensate him. Additionally, it was very hard to get passed the long hair found in my daughter's sandwich. Needless to say, there are many great (hairless-food) restaurants in the area to try. I would not recommend Porkshop.
Online it lists pork chop as having a happy hour but the bar tender was unaware of this and did. It honor this information. Sad this is the reason why I and my friends came there. Maybe they should implement this if they already haven't and some staff are unaware. They could make more money (literally at 5:00 I have a picture and will do a Yelp review) no one was there but me and my friends at the bar. Last time I'll recommend this place won't return.
This place has the potential to be good, bit it allows service issues to overshadow a nice meal. While my chicken (and sides) was decent, my friend's brisket was dry. While management did come out and offer to replace her food, a place known for barbecue shouldn't have issue with a signature dish. Also, our server got the check wrong FOUR times! That's unacceptable! I doubt I'll go back.
Food was good. Host that sits folks rude. I mentioned I as reservation through open table. She sat me up front telling me there were no other seats available when I could see seats in plain site in rear. She said it didn't make a difference if o had booked through open table, that's the best she could do! I was thee to meet my sisters new husband. Next time I'll go to JaGrill next door Or Promontory!
They were NOT able to give me my points for they do not do reservation electronically. In fact I must be one of the first people to ever make an Open Table reservation. The manager did not know how to credit me for the points. I have a credit receipt for proof of dining, if needed. I'd appreciate receiving my 100 points for this reservation..
