Porcini - Philadelphia Ratings and Reviews
Food was good! A friend and I were there for restaurant week. Everything was good all around except for my friend and I had to share a salad? I thought each person paying for restaurant week receive each of their own course, besides that the food was good and it’s byob! I’ll come back again! Risotto was delicious.
My husband and I went to Italy in June, and upon returning were sure we'd never eat food that delicious again. Porcini proved us wrong!!! The food is absolutely to DIE for - fresh and delicate and delectable. We had a ball and the service was wonderful. The ambiance is definitely surprising - it's an old house that is barely converted and, I'll admit, a bit cramped. But again - just like Italy!! We'll definitely be going back and bringing friends!
Great food! All the plates were superb. Normally I don't like desserts in the US, they all taste way too sweet for me, but Porcini's tiramisu was almost perfect (I'd love it to be even a little less sweet). The restaurant is very noisy and very small, which definitely gives it a special charm, but if you are planning to have a quiet or personal conversation it might be challenging. Overall, great place, from now on it'll be my go to Italian.
The food was very authentic Italian and extremely good. They served dishes that I have only had in Rome, and have never seen in the U.S. The restaurant is somewhat small, loud, and cramped, but it makes for a fun, energetic experience. It seems that most patrons are "regulars", which speaks to the loyalty of customers. I will go back in a heartbeat.
Would not suggest to a friend. We ordered an appetizer and asked for long hots on the side but it would be "too hard" as per the waitress. I ordered pappardelle but received pork, when I told the waitress I did not receive an apology, instead the waitress said "well your meal will take longer, 10 minutes" and walked away. Dinner was overpriced, i.e. $35 for mediocre bolognese. We asked for crushed red pepper and received a tiny dish of crushed red pepper, then moments later the waitress asked to "borrow" the crushed red pepper and gave it to the table behind us. Overall, poor service, overpriced, not great food.
Food is excellent. Great red sauces, excellent ingredients, unique dishes. It is a very small and loud and lacks much space. Also it only seats about 30 people so there is a definite sense of they need to turn ove the tables. So the waitresses pulled plates before you were even done. Hate that. The food is very good though and is worth trying and it is price fairly. And be sure you have dessert. Terrific
Food is great there! My husband and I were there once, and wanted to go again because we were in city, but I was skeptical on bringing kids there bc it did not strike me as a place for kids. We went and everyone there was so nice and accommodating and really made it enjoyable for us! My younger son says we are going there every time we go to city!
My friends and I enjoyed our experience at Porcini. We each ordered a different entree and were equally pleased with the preparation and presentation of the cannelloni, seafood, and chicken dishes. The appetizer and dessert we shared were ample and delicious.
I definitely recommend Porcini’s.
Everyone has to go to Porcini at least once if only to have the joy of being greeted by David Sansone! Once you have been warmly greeted you can then start to anticipate the delicious food. I have eaten there at least 25 times in the past 10 years or so and I am always happy with everything!
Over a dozen visits this year - all excellent. The evolving menu, exciting specials, and the menu staples combined with the wonderfully cozy dining room and friendly staff make coming here a destination unto itself. Thanks for all the great times. Looking forward to more very soon.
This place is off the charts for quality of fresh food, prepared with passion, from mostly fresh, natural, and local hand-picked sources. It’s smallness allows the Sansone brothers to convey intimacy with every dish complimented by the serving staff dedicated to serving at the highest level. I will go back every time I return to Philly with the simple expectation that my next meal was just 50% as good as my last (because that last time was just THAT SUPERB!). By the way, you get all that at an extremely reasonable price.
This was our second time at Porcini and we enjoyed both visits. The homemade pastas, particularly the Mediterranean and the special "black and white" pasta with seafood were excellent. We ordered several appetizers and thought all were great - the artichokes, the squid and the eggplant. Although the room was full, it was not overly noisy. Great neighborhood find!
Creative and well-prepared food clearly the highlight of this restaurant. BYOB certainly helps make the experience more affordable than competitive restaurants with over 300% mark-ups on wine. Small room, can't measure more than 12'x20', in which about 28 diners are packed means very tight, cramped and loud environment. Casual, friendly and attentive service; overall good experience, especially with chef's creations.
We love Porcini. The Italian food is excellent, beautifully prepared and, most of all, not pretentious. It is BYO so we can bring a good Italian wine. This is a very small restaurant so unless you go early or late get ready for loud! And reservations are a must.
Great for a date or a fun night with friends, just know it is a very small and lively dining space. The food was excellent and menu was just the right size — enough for even a picky eater to find something but small enough to be fresh and homemade. The Garlic Bread was a must, and I could have eaten another plate of the Veal Oso Bucco Ravioli — though the portion size is very good! The restaurant got pretty loud but it’s a jem, and the staff make you feel like you’ve been there a dozen times! Can’t wait to go back.
If you want to pay 30 dollars for 5 pieces of shrimp with black and white linguini topped with a flavorless red sauce then this is your place. Both entrees ordered were a huge flavorless dissapointment. Wouldnt come back and wouldnt recommend
