Porcini - Philadelphia Ratings and Reviews
An Italian work colleague of mine recommended this place to me, and took me there as a "thank you" a few weeks ago. Having traveled to and dined throughout Italy, I was stunned how terrific and authentic this place was - best Italian meal I've had outside of Bologna, Umbria, Tuscany OR Rome. The owners are wonderfully outgoing. I love the fact it's BYOB. Not inexpensive, but worth it -- the pasta is fantastic, and take advantage of the fabulous appetizers and the puff pastry desert. Parking is not a big problem here with a garage across the street, and decent street parking usually available. I almost don't want to say too many good things because it will become popular - then again, it already is.
Absolutely friendly and great food. We shared a Caesar salad which was light and fresh. My husband hat a pasta from the nightly menu which he really enjoyed. I had the chicken which was truly flavorful, like I could eat it often! We appreciated the care put into the food and the considerate staff and owner Home style not haute cuisine. Worth going back for. Very small restaurant but they make it work. We will be going back soon.
Had the potential but there were a few issues on our visit....
We ended up with 2 servers. The first server seemed to be annoyed with our presence. She didn't explain the specials to us or open our bottle of wine. At the end my husband went to use the bathroom and she questioned the credit card being in my name. She seemed to give us attitude while the second server was actually pleasant.
We somehow managed to order one of the non homemade pastas on the menu which was a disappointment.
Would have been better if we had a little more TLC.
The best authentic Italian food ever. Very friendly staff. Owner was extremely welcoming and appreciated all his customers. Even gave me a pat on the back. Very tight quarters but it as ok for some reason. I usually can't deal with sitting so close with strangers but everyone was in to it and fun. So good.
This has only been my second time here, but that's besides the point. Whether you're an urbanist or city slicker you'll find this place to be perfect, a little loud, but cozy. Great staff and service. Perfect for any occasion in the heart of Center City Philadelphia. 15 minute walk from the Logan Square, 10 min walk to Rittenhouse Shopping District. This place will fill you up with authentic Italian paired with a beverage of your choice (BYOB) you're in for a great time!
My husband and I have been going here for 10 years. We love it. The food is always delicious and it is reasonably priced. The atmosphere is cozy and super friendly. The owners are so great. The chef is out in the dining room often. Extremely fun and friendly atmosphere. Highly recommend.
I went to this restaurant after seeing positive Google reviews and with the assumption that the website having no pictures with menu items meant the food was more authentic. Upon arrival, I found the spacing to be cramped and the food to be mediocre. The service was good, but not spectacular. I am not sure what I am missing, but the experience was not worth the prices I paid.
Every neighborhood should have a restaurant like Porcini. The Sansone brothers have created a little gem here. With authentic Italian recipes lovingly prepared, using the best ingredients, this 25-seat BYOB trattoria treats guests like family. David Sansone welcomes you heartily and explains the specials, while Steven, his brother, oversees the kitchen. Pastas are house made. This visit we enjoyed a grilled calamari appetizer, followed by a special: arctic char and tagliatelle in a light tomato-lemon sauce. The sauce was perfect for the delicate fish, and the house-made noodles were cooked to toothy perfection. My wife ordered crispy prosciutto and tagliatelle in a blush sauce. We have been here many times and look forward to returning. Glad we live close by, since every neighborhood does not have a Porcine. Just glad ours does.
Cozy restaurant on a couple of floors in a small building in Rittenhouse square. BYOB. authentic, delicious food and varied choices. Highly recommend the artichokes appetizer and tiramisu for dessert. The pollo Milanese and ravioli di Ossobuco were so good, there was nothing left. The house special pasta was very good too. Portions are a good size. Overall, a great find at a very reasonable price.
Steve and co. were awesome, as usual. Daughter chose for her birthday and they made us all feel special. Making special drinks and other off menu combos. They always go the extra mile and it shows. Highly recommend to anyone looking for a great experience.
After receiving a couple recommendations from friends we finally made it to dinner here and we weren't disappointed. Enjoyed the cozy close quarters with family and great conversations with David, one of the owners, as we made some small world connections with him. The only thing missing for us was a gluten free pasta option, but otherwise a great experience with great food!
Our 4th time there. David, one of the owners, waited on us. We felt like we've known him for 30 years and it's only been a year since we've been frequenting Porcini's. Went on Tuesday night and it was quiet, friendly, and relaxing. Other restaurants can have the din of conversation bouncing off of the tin ceilings or tile floors. This was just right, where you can hear what's being said. And all four diners enjoyed their appetizers and meals. Desserts also great. We had the veal marsala, striper bass, bolognese and all were great.
We are from Boston and were in Philadelphia to bring my daughter to her college orientation. We wanted to experience the Italian food scene near our hotel and the menu at Porcinis looked perfect -- traditional but with a "flair". My cousin ordered the dijon pistachio pork...amazing! I had the ravioli osso bucca....yummm and her daughter the pollo milanese....delish! Plus, the cannoli, stuffed with homemade ricotta, was such a wonderful end to fabulous meal! I had a difficult day navigating the Philly traffic and dealing with my daughter that I was very much looking forward to a drink with my meal. Unfortunately, we did not know it was BYOB. The proprietor was sooo kind that he went into his own personal stash and gave me a glass of wine. It made my day!!! Overall, a wonderful gastronomic experience!
The two brothers who have run this restaurants for over two decades create a homey and festive atmosphere, and the food is creative and very good. I just ate there on a busy Friday evening, and while I was delighted that business was so good, the noise levels made conversation--even at a table for two--very difficult. So perhaps better to go at less busy times.
