Porcini - Philadelphia Ratings and Reviews
This was our second time at Porcini and we enjoyed both visits. The homemade pastas, particularly the Mediterranean and the special "black and white" pasta with seafood were excellent. We ordered several appetizers and thought all were great - the artichokes, the squid and the eggplant. Although the room was full, it was not overly noisy. Great neighborhood find!
Creative and well-prepared food clearly the highlight of this restaurant. BYOB certainly helps make the experience more affordable than competitive restaurants with over 300% mark-ups on wine. Small room, can't measure more than 12'x20', in which about 28 diners are packed means very tight, cramped and loud environment. Casual, friendly and attentive service; overall good experience, especially with chef's creations.
We love Porcini. The Italian food is excellent, beautifully prepared and, most of all, not pretentious. It is BYO so we can bring a good Italian wine. This is a very small restaurant so unless you go early or late get ready for loud! And reservations are a must.
Great for a date or a fun night with friends, just know it is a very small and lively dining space. The food was excellent and menu was just the right size — enough for even a picky eater to find something but small enough to be fresh and homemade. The Garlic Bread was a must, and I could have eaten another plate of the Veal Oso Bucco Ravioli — though the portion size is very good! The restaurant got pretty loud but it’s a jem, and the staff make you feel like you’ve been there a dozen times! Can’t wait to go back.
If you want to pay 30 dollars for 5 pieces of shrimp with black and white linguini topped with a flavorless red sauce then this is your place. Both entrees ordered were a huge flavorless dissapointment. Wouldnt come back and wouldnt recommend
you cannot go wrong going to Porcini. Is probably the best Italian restaurant in the city and anything you order from the menu is going to be just outstanding !!!
Steve in the kitchen and David as a waiter they are the best combination for success.
We been going to Porcini for at least 20-30 or more years ( lost count !!!) and we enjoy taking to David and Steve. They manage to socialize with customers, in spite of been always fully booked, so make sure to make reservations. They are on "open table" and is BOYB
What a fantastic find! This little place, packed with tables arranged elbow to elbow, serves equal parts fantastic food and great hospitality. I had the osso buck ravioli. My friend had cannelloni with spinach ricotta filling in vodka sauce. The pasta was fresh and light. BYOB! Although the house gave us two glasses of white on the house. Wonderful!!!
Steven is a fantastic chef and Dave such an accommodating host. I took my crew of 5 for a business dinner and sampled the most magnificent dishes. The crowd favorite was the vodka sauce pasta and the Oso Buck Ravioli. Heck In fact it was all outstanding . We can’t wait to head back the next time we are in town.
The place is s hidden gem. A great experience from the minute we arrived. David, the host and I assume one of the owners, was extremely attentive and made a great meal into a pleasant experience. The service was very good and the food was excellent. We will definitely return.
The owners are very friendly and make it a point to see how everything is. The room itself is a little cramped, but we knew that going in, so it was no big deal. My only complaint, if you will, was the table of super loud women next to us were speaking (shouting, actually) so loud it made us have to scream across the table to hear one another. This isn't something you can control, so more of an annoyance than anything.
Every dish was excellent, a great little BYOB!
The food at Porcini was excellent. Fantastic Octopus appetizer. Companion had an outstanding Veal Marsala. My special Branzino was wonderful. The only downside was the restaurant was too crowded for its size. There was a very large party in the first floor dining room and an even larger party on the 2nd floor. It was just too crowded. We will return because the food was so good and we believe this was an unusual situation but it was so crowded it became too warm & claustrophobic.
Made a resy here for dinner last night with my wife for our anniversary based on all the positive reviews and us being in the mood for Italian. So many of the reviews referencedthe food being some of the best Italian they ever had and I have to say that my meal was some of the best flavors that's ever touched my mouth. Holy cow. I got the special, which was spinach and egg pasta (colored pasta...great for presentation) with seared scallops and shrimp with a light chunky tomato and garlic sauce. The flavor was nothing short of amazing. Do you know how sometimes food can be so good that you don't want to swallow it and just want to keep it in your mouth because it tastes so good? Yeah...that. Oh, and the garlic bread...amazing...had to get two orders because I tore through the first order before our entrees arrived.
Other comments...the place is very tiny, but had a lively, bustling vibe! Seating is very tight. Wasn't sure how we'd feel about it when we first walked in, but after we got settled at our table it was fine and I enjoyed it. Tip...there's a downstairs and upstairs...try to sit downstairs if possible...better vibe (the upstairs was kinda blah and void of any vibe).
Also, the owner, Dave was very engaged with the dining room. He greeted everyone who came in and was great about checking in to make sure you were enjoying everything. You could tell this place was full of repeat customers too (always a great sign) because he seemed to know/recognize a lot of the other patrons there.
I'm all about new experiences...and it was kind of neat trying this cute little place because it's so different from your typical gigantic city restaurant. It's always a risk...sometimes it works out and sometimes it doesn't, but this time I felt like I hit the jackpot. And even better that it was a BYOB. Appetizer, 2 salads, 2 orders of garlic bread, and 2 entrees came to just over $100. Money well spent and I'll definitely be back to this little gem!
the food at our recent dinner at porcini's was very delicious. we had a 6:30 reservation. between 6:30 and approximately 7:15 it was possible to have a normal conversation. after 7:15 it became very noisy in the restaurant and therefore difficult to have a conversation. the next time we come we'll shoot for a 6:00 reservation . we really like this place.
