Porch Cafe Ratings and Reviews
This was fairly disappointing. we came for restaurant week offerings and they were quite sad. The brussel sprouts were not cooked. The steak was stringy. The pasta was flavorless and lacked character. The vegetables were good. Not impressed and won't be back
THe Porch Cafe is the best restaurant on the southside of Houston
The Dishes are creative and unique, the menu is limited as this is a small place
but there are always some off the menu specials. IF you get the meal deal the portions are smaller so you can eat all the food. The AVacado Salad is unique and the best
My husband and I were visiting Galveston for the weekend and I looked at Yelp for a restaurant recommendation. This place definitely lived up to the great reviews. We had the Filet Mignon, which was cooked perfectly to medium rare. The poblano grits were wonderfully creamy and the Brussels Sprouts that were roasted in a honey dijon sauce were absolutely the best part of the whole plate! We sat on the outside porch area and it had a nice romantic ambiance. Our server was excellent. I highly recommend this restaurant!
Went here for Saturday brunch. I ordered the crab cake sandwich and my husband the steak Benedicts.
The food looked great when the server brought it to the table. However, my crab cake was mushy and tasteless and my husbands poached eggs were hard. His steak was well done even though he ordered medium rare. Even my ice tea tasted bitter as if they had boiled the tea bag. The fries I had with my sandwich were good.
I had been there one previous time during which I ordered the chicken and waffles. I didn’t order them again this time because they were just ok.
The atmosphere is really Seaside beachy with tall ceilings. It’s too bad the food just isn’t cooked quite right. There was only one other table, so we can’t blame it on a rush.
I went to this secluded restaurant on a Saturday night, and was surprised that there were so few customers. This restaurant has wonderful ambiance, bright warm lights indoors and low candlelight on the porch. The dinner was delicious. I had a three-course dinner of crabcake starter, shrimp and grits entree, and brownie icecream dessert. I attached some images to this review. I was very full from dinner, and so was my partner who had a 4-course meal. My only complaint in this review is that there were no vegetarian entrees :*( and the outdoors area where I sat smelled of kerosene or gas from the heaters. The beach is just a few meters away if you arrive early or want to take a stroll after eating. I had a good dining experience here, and recommend this place, but I think many people would really appreciate a vegetarian dinner choice.
The Porch Cafe is a wonderful restaurant, and we're so happy it's located on the east end. Normally food and service are great, but last Saturday was an exception. Unfortunately, the restaurant was hosting a wedding party and this distraction made our dining experience unsatisfactory. The kitchen staff and wait staff were so involved with the wedding party that we had to wait nearly an hour for our entrees. By this point, we had lost our appetites and desire to stay. The restaurant offered to comp our meal but we declined because we thought it was unnecessary. Our only message to the Porch Cafe is to consider closing the restaurant on the times when special functions are being held. The restaurant is too small to handle special events and regular dinner patrons.
Great place to eat and I would go again; however, my wife does not eat pepper of any kind and everything has pepper in it. The online menu show many more options that they actually offer and I guess most are prepared in advance for they could not leave out pepper for my wife. Since she did not appreciate the food, none in our group will go here with us for this restaurant is off the list. Again, I loved the place but without my wife, cannot do a second visit.
This place is amazing. My husband and I went for brunch a few weeks ago and absolutely loved it. My mother in law was in town last weekend and we decided to bring her here for dinner. We had a lovely time and the food was amazing. We will definitely be coming back in the near future. The atmosphere is relaxing. It is decorated very well and everyone who works there is very nice.
My family has frequently dined at Porch Cafe for both Brunch and weekend dinner. This place has declined significantly. The last two times were questionable and we gave it one more try. This time it was so bad that our friends we brought along, had one of the worst experiences dining out. They are in the wine and restaurant business and regularly dine out in Houston. You can imagine how disappointed they were with our experience. A few of the issues were: slow service, out of most menu items we ordered, poor presentation of dishes, missing items on dishes served. Brunch sangria and mimosas were great.
Super service. Fantastic menu.
I was also impressed that they are pet-friendly. Several tables had their dogs sitting at their table outside. The staff brought water bowls for the dogs. Nice touch.
Our kids absolutely loved their food and were super impressed. We'll definitely come back our next visit to Galveston.
