Poquitos Ratings and Reviews
After living in San Diego for a few years, I have had some difficulty finding legit Mex food in the NW and Seattle. Poquitos is about the best we have found. Fresh and authentic flavors were present in all of our dishes. Only compliant is that the food comes very fast (only requires assembly, no real cooking) and servers push you out the door in order to turn tables.
We went to poquitos for Valentine's day. We were seated at a table that was by itself, which was dubbed the true love table. Delicious food and drinks, a very kind server, and complimentary truffles at tree end of the meal created an unforgettable experience!
We felt rush all throughout dinner. The hosted took us to our table and within second the waitress came asking if we were ready to order, she didn’t even gave us a change to look at our menus. And she kept rushing us to order. When our food arrived at the table we were all very disappointed. My brother order the carnitas and before ordering he asked if it was spicy and our waitress said no, but when the food arrived he took a bite and he was done. The carnitas were xtra spicy. Lol my friend and I had the steak tacos and it’s was chunks of fat rather then chunks of steaks. I couldn’t even finished my meal bc the waitress came and took my plate. I had barely eaten a taco, she didn’t even asked if I was done. Then she rush the check to our table practically kicking us out. Overall it was very disappointing. I won’t be going back.
Love Poquitos. Been here many times before. This time however, our waiter was rushed and busy and gave the attitude that he didn’t seem to care that we were there. It was New Year’s Day and we were all having fun so we didn’t bother too much about it. However, in another situation, I may have been a little more irritated.
First to arrive. Place was quiet and quaint while we ate. All 7 of us. The space is nice. Spacious for large parties. The food is so,so. Biscuits and gravy—biscuits are huge and too dry. Flatter makes more sense for gravy to biscuit ratio. Breakfast bowl was so,so. Potatoes were over cooked and under salted. Tomato sauce was better with condiments added. Pancake was super doughy but the nuts and toppings were super good. Fish tacos were the best. Heuvos Rancheros sauce had a good flavor. Next time I will stick with the Mexican food for sure.
Loved the food - excellent as always! Our waiter (I'm ashamed that I can't think of his name at the moment...Dan?) made our time at Poquitos especially good - he was attentive, provided excellent recommendations and was highly entertaining - he put the experience over the top for all of us.
I made reservations online and asked for a special romantic area for the set plus guacamole and chips and two drinks. As I walked in I gave the lady my name she watch me ride over to a really special corner seat and there was was my order it what I asked for. The weather came up we get more food order within 35 seconds literally our food shut up it was the fastest order I’ve ever experienced. The weather was amazing really nice for two people with two orders of drinks plus guacamole and chips And dinner for two I walked away with about $85. It was perfect love the whole vibe
Excellent and authentic Mexican food with a creative, varied menu. But if you're NOT a fan of spicy Mexican, your choices will be quite limited. Almost everything on the menu has a little 🌶 next to it indicating heat. The half chicken and black beans was excellent and not spicy, and I think the Baja fish tacos aren't spicy. Pretty sure almost everything else is. The guacamole is excellent, and they offer a regular one or an alternative that changes. The one they had the night we were there had cranberries and mint, which didn't try.
I have been here in the past years several times. It had been awhile and we had felt like Mexican. My margarita was delicious. The half size order of guacamole appeared was really just a personal serving. My carnitas meat was the weak point of the meal. Just bland. My daughter liked her meal. The price point is such that one would expect every part of it to be spot on.
It's difficult to believe that a restaurant today doesn't have somebody that can pick up the phone and talk to you when you call. This is a MUST, and a real problem for a service oriented business. I attempted to make reservations for a party of 8 business associates that were in town. The process, per a recorded message, asked me to fill out a form, and "I'd get a response within 48 hours". We were looking for a dining option in the next 2 hours. The host was indignant when we arrived, and indicated, "The form says we'll let you know within 48 hours." How about, "Oh, we're sorry, we didn't pick it up yet." Better yet, PICK UP THE PHONE WHEN IT RINGS. Food was fair, Overall experience was LOW, after our introductory experience when we arrived.
The food was NOT good, except for the deconstructed cheesecake. It was my boyfriend's birthday and his carne asada was grizzly and undercooked, not even sliced. The waiter never checked back to see how our meal was, the fish tacos were bland and barely contained any fish and I was given no salsa to add flavor. The coconut moose tasted like air. All in all, a pretty disappointing birthday dinner. We won't be back.
I would have rated this place 5 stars but the service wasn't up to my par. I had to wait 35 minutes just to order my drink and my dinner came before my drink. The waitress put my food order in and was supposed to come back to get my drink order and just ignored me every time I tried to wave her down.
Otherwise the place has good food and good drinks just not worthy of five star service.
Although getting to Capitol Hill can be a drag at rush hour, and parking is difficult, the food and drnks at Poquito's cheered me up after a cranky drive. The space is comfortable but a bit loud, which is typical for Capitol Hill. The three-taco combination was fresh and delicious, and the top-shelf, Cadillac margarita was perfect--just the right balance of sour and sweet, with a generous pour of tequila. We were tempted to order the grasshoppers (the insect, not the cocktail) but none of us was drunk enough. We have Mexican food that's at least as good, and roughly half the price, in our Ballard/Greenwood neighborhood, but Poquito's feels more upscale and festive, a nice place to meet up with friends.
I was excited to see the addition of a smoked chickpea vegan dish to the menu! The spices tempered by the cashew cream were to die for. I enjoyed the cucumber ancho margarita too. It was cool and refreshing on a hot evening. Our server was sweet and the ambiance was fun. Good people watching. We will definitely be back!
Great food! Love all of the salsas in the salsa trio and the grilled corn side dish is why I ate there.
No AC in the restaurant so it was a little uncomfortable even at 7 pm on a warm day. Nice servers and all around a cool place.
Neighborhood: It's Capital Hill so you'll see some interesting people walking around outside the windows. There were a few homeless people on the corner of the restaurant. My suburban kids are continually amazed.
It's in an interesting part of town, maybe not good if you have young children. Atmosphere is really nice, the food wasn't amazing, it was mediocre. I can get a better carne asada at a hole in the wall restaurant. Our waitress wasn't the best, brought us warm water (on a very hot day) we had to request chips (which at any other Mexican restaurant are practically thrown at you when you walk in). I ordered some guacamole for 6 dollars, a half order, and it was extremely small portion and mediocre at best.
I think the Carne Asada dish should go back to what it used to be (different steak type, rub and served cut) and I think you used to also have the butternut squash in the mix too- I think the dish changes are ok but substantially worse than the one before. Previous one was so much more tasty.
This place is always busy, so my boyfriend and I decided to give it a shot. Regretfully, we won't be going back. The service and decor were great, but the food was mediocre at best. It's overpriced, low quality Mexican food. My boyfriend got the $30 carne asada only to get a fatty piece of low grade steak. I ordered the carnitas, expecting it to be very flavorful. It was not. Very bland and meat was tough.
I love Poquitos, which is why I chose it for my family bday dinner. But at the end of the meal, a mouse was running around the floor as we paid our check. On the way out, I mentioned this to the host, who simply and rudely responded "Oh yeah? I'll tell someone to work on that." Totally icked me out. I tossed my leftovers and it'll be a while before I go back.
Service was a bit slow but our server was very sweet. The food was delicious and had a wide variety of options. My friend is vegetarian and it was great that she had plenty to choose from as well. Poquito's has an excellent ambiance, I really liked the decor and color scheme. Drinks were on point. I'll be back!
