Popi's Italian Restaurant Ratings and Reviews
The food wasn’t the greatest but it was still delicious. The service was on point, always someone either the waitress or whoever checking up on us. They seated us exactly where I requested, and the wine selection was incredible. Only downside is I found a piece of hair on the outer ring of my plate, kind of in the sauce of the food I got, wasn't that big of a deal, everything else exceeded my expectations so I didn’t feel the need to tell them about it. Overall great food and service.
Warm, Friendly service. Nice Wine, cocktail & beer selection. Delicious, unpretentious, basic Italian eats. The Kids loved their chicken parmigiana , warm bread with herb infused olive oil - authentic South Philly. Save room for the homemade Cannoli's . We look forward to returning.
A true gem in the heart of South Philly and very close walking distance to all of the stadiums. The food is excellent Italian cuisine and the staff is very friendly. I have eaten dinner there twice and have been very pleased both times. The tables are far enough apart from each other that you don't feel cramped like many of the other restaurants in South Philly. You should definitely give it a try. You won't be disappointed. Bon Apetito!
My husband and I went to Popi's for NY Eve. We have been there for birthdays and anniversaries and always have a pleasant experience. Not this time. First the food was not good. We don't mind over paying for a holiday meal but you expect it to be good for over $45 a dinner. The service was just average and I assume it is due to the fact that 20% was added to every check no matter how big the party. We always tip at least 20% but would have appreciated the option for 2 people. We were told about no specials but heard another server telling another table. Just not good all around. The girls up front are always great though and they make you feel welcome. They were the best part of the night! We vowed to not return on a holiday... Adding gratuity for a table of 2 surely leads to lacking service... we go out a lot and we were very disappointed.
Took my wife here for dinner after the TSO concert at Wells Fargo Center. We do this every year, and dinner at Popi's is the icing on a fabulous holiday weekend cake! We arrived early, so there was time for a drink at the bar. Both bartenders were friendly and efficient. The hostess seated us promptly at our reservation time, a great table at a window and also in view of the Christmas tree - perfect! Vincenzo, our waiter, took great care of us the entire meal. We started with Popi's salad and a spinach Waldorf salad special. Both were huge portions, the greens and spinach were fresh and crisp, and the dressings were delicious. My wife had shrimp fra diavlo, and I had the home made cavatelli with shrimp and blush sauce. Huge bowls of pasta with plenty of good sized, fresh shrimp in both dishes. The fra diavlo sauce had a nice spicy kick, and the blush sauce was silky smooth and scrumptious. Both pasta dishes were outstanding! They tasted so good we forced ourselves to finish them all. We did save room for dessert though. The warmed lattice apple pie was the perfect end to a great meal! Can't wait to come back!
We hit Popi's before a show at the Wells Fargo Center. We were in and out in about 90 minutes. I don't know how I went this long before finding this place. The service was friendly and efficient, the food was excellent and the prices were reasonable. It felt like going to family for dinner. I REALLY enjoyed the Portabella Parmagian and the Veal Di Mare. We'll be back soon!
Have been there a number of times and never disappointed with the food. Did have reservations but we were placed in bar area. We were there for a holiday lunch so would have been nice to sit in the main room where Xmas tree is but “breakfast” had not cleared out. Our server was slow to get to our table and did not offer any “specials” as we had heard the server next to us give to his table. Finally got our drinks and waited awhile for her to come back for our order. We have her 20% because we were feeling the spirit of Christmas.
The food was amazing and service was good considering how packed they were. This was our first time there and unwound definitely go back. The Chicken Nicole was delicious, very flavorful with ample portions at good cost. My only complaint was that it was a bit too loud and hard to hear my husband, 6 Year old daughter and 88 Year old grandmom.
My third time at Popi's and I was a little let down. The antipasta plate was ok, some of the meats weren't very fresh. Our bread arrived sometime after our appetizer which was annoying. The oil dip for the bread was loaded with chopped onion and tomato which made it more like a salsa -- not what I was looking forward to. I ordered crab cakes and was very disappointed. Mostly filler and dry and just blah.
Our waiter was great, our hostess was great. The wine was great. The location is perfect for pre-show at the Wells Fargo Center. Parking was good.
Found Popi's online somehow and glad that I did! Great menu choices for my whole family. Service was superb. We has to rush our order a little due to a concert later in the evening. Our server knew just how to fit the meal in (even an appetizer) without us feeling rushed. I actually will go back again soon when I am in the area to enjoy the atmosphere (and the wine) at a little more slower pace. The calamari app was perfectly seasoned and tender. Our meals were great.
Nice restaurant in a nice neighborhood in South Philly with plenty of parking. Within walking distance of the stadiums. Ordered a Popi salad and a Penne Bolognese and both were very good. Restaurant is a little loud but the tables are far enough apart that you don't feel too distracted by other conversations. The staff is friendly and I would definitely go back again and that is the best compliment I can give to Popi's!
Love this spot. I have been her countless times. Great food wonderful chef. My only complaint was my server...a bit on the sarcastic side and appeared disinterested asked for a drink stayed he would be back momentarily however 20 minutes later nothing. This is not a reflection on any other staff person as i have dealt wirh all of them and they were awesome
I took a friend and my cousin out to dinner before a show at the Wells Fargo Center. The menu selections were good, the specials were very special, and the drinks were delicious.
The staff were very responsive to our needs and very welcoming.
We all had a wonderful time
