Pope's Tavern at the Oxford Inn Ratings and Reviews
Had some family and friends staying with me on a Monday night and looking for a place to eat only to find that just about every restaurant (other than some fast food places) in the area are closed on Monday's. I had heard good things about Pope's Tavern and while I'm in Easton, Oxford isn't that far and was pleased to find that they are pretty much the only place open on a Monday night! Well, I'm so glad it was open because it was a wonderful experience from the ambiance, the service and the food. We all had different things so we got to taste a few items and each one was well prepared and really delicious. We enjoyed that casual atmosphere and the friendliness of everyone who works there from the server to the owner/chef. It was a wonderful treat and not only will I be back, I'll be sure to recommend this place.
Pope's once again did not disappoint! We enjoyed a lovely dinner in a cozy, romantic spot. I can think of few lovelier places to have a great fall/winter dinner. The PBJ fois gras appetizer is absolutely delicious and perfectly portioned to share as a starter. The special that night - rockfish - was cooked perfectly and served over a lovely crabmeat infused stuffing. The filet was cooked beautifully and spoon tender. Unfortunately, we didn't save room for dessert, but the temptation was terribly strong! Service was attentive, friendly, and wonderfully paced. We recommend Pope's to our friends and continue to consider it one of the best.
We had a great family birthday celebration at Pope's. Service was friendly and timely and food was delicious as usual. We ranged in age from 8 to 80 and everyone was delighted with their meal! An amazing veal chop with chanterelles was the highlight and "order envy" dish of the night.
Salad portions small - take that into consideration when ordering. Filet was small - very thin and as a result tough - wouldn't order it again. The deal and hit of the night were the fried oysters - ordering them during happy hour they were $1 each and delightful.
The experience of dining at the Pope's Tavern is like being in a French country home.
The quality of the food was just exceptional.
The entree we both ordered was the filet of flounder with a beure blanc lemon sauce that melted on our tongues. Two generous servings of the fish were placed atop some silky mashed potatoes and spinach. Of the many meals we have eaten, this was in the top 3. It was food for the gods. To complete this very enjoyable meal we decided to order a flourless chocolate tart. The richness and chocolatey flavor was like nothing I have ever eaten.
The chef clearly loves what she does and our only regret is that we live in California
We stopped by on way to Ocean City and it sure was worth the extra 15 minutes to drive from Rt 50! The food was top notch, the chef surprised us with a pasta wrapped/ fried shrimp. Then the crab cake on zoodles (zuchini noodles) was superb as was the panko crusted rockfish on cabbage carbonara (sounds odd but was really good)
So stop by and give Oxford Inn a try! Nice wine list... could have a few more beers available though...
Food was good. Ambiance nice. Lovely service. Easy to find.
We (2) were seated in the empty dining room in front of a window. Two other parties, (3) and (5), were seated one behind each of us, also in front of windows. We were disappointed that their conversations were distracting because they were so close. My noise level selection would be lower if we (or the other parties) had been anywhere else in the dining room. Next time, I would ask to be moved (not much of a view to miss).
We are on special diets and the kitchen was completely accommodating. The chef (Lisa) even came out to discuss the menu with us to make sure we would be pleased and we were! Our chicken breast and sockeye salmon were cooked to perfection! They had nice fresh vegetable selections and they were also cooked perfectly. We'll definitely eat there again!
Excellent and interesting menu. I had the rockfish which was delicious -- perfectly cooked. Good wine selection also. Service was good and the dining room is nicely decorated. It is not very large so probably best to make a reservation on a summer weekend. There is also a bar with a bar menu for a very light meal.
We ate at all 5 restaurants here in Oxford during our visit. Pope's tavern was the best experience overall. Food, service, ambiance, it all came together here better than anywhere else in town. None of the others were a disaster, but we enjoyed it here best.
