Dining at Poor Calvin's for Sunday brunch was a wonderful experience. The food was wonderful and the seating was close, so we got the opportunity to chat with other diners and receive food recommendations from them. I'm looking forward to dining there again, soon!
Amazing! Food was delicious had the Chilean Sea Bass outstanding!
In a word.... PHENOMENAL! Our server Joi was very personable & professional. The Food- AMAZING! The DESSERTs... To Die For. Poor Calvin’s is a MUST BISIR.
Poor Calvin's has been recommended to me several times since we move to Atlanta. Finally we were able to have this "fine dining experience". The drinks were great! And the food was super delicious. I would definitely go again but you cannot be on a budget it was a little pricey.
The food was delicious and our service was excellent. Robert gave good recommendations and was attentive.
My wife and I wanted to go out again to Poor Calvin's before I start medical treatment for cancer. We each had a glass of Alburino. It was "off." I suspect the bottle was not a fresh one. Each of us had a curry dish - seafood & scallops. They were tasty but left both of us sick with upset stomachs. Not a good night.
We like to pick hole-in-wall places to try out and this was by far the best selection ever. We loved the restaurant, the waitress AJ and the food was awesome. Poor Calvin's made our adventure absolutely wonderful!!!! We highly recommending this place to your friends & family.
Great food and great service.
The seating and tables are super close together and tight which makes for an uncomfortable and awkward experience for a date or just close friends trying to talk. Due to the closeness of the tables the noise level is too loud.
The food is excellent though.
My boss wanted to take me to lunch and I chose this place. I’ve been there once before for my birthday and loved it. Loved it this time also.
I went to Poor Calvin's on a recommendation from friends while visiting Atlanta. The food was amazing, especially the much hype lobster fried rice, definitely worth every cent. The restaurant seating was pretty tight, but what you would expect based on the type of semi-casual yet hip restaurant it is. My only complaint was that my server forgot my Ginger Ale and our fried green tomatoes (we were not billed for either). This definitely is a place you should visit if you are will to explore fusion dishes, in a hipster environment, a can appreciate locally sourced + sustainable + organic foods.
This is not the place for you if you want a quiet steak dinner, white glove service, or want to bright more than 1 young child. Do not bring infants in car seats.
Such a funky, warm, inviting place. The food is FABULOUS and creative without being pretentious. Our server, Jeremy, was knowledgeable, friendly, attentive and fun. Will come back here each and every time I visit Atlanta for work (about once per month!). Keep up the amazing work!
The food was amazing!!! Fried chicken, grouper and seafood curry were all on point! Great service, all of the staff were helpful, well informed and warm welcoming. The presence of restaurant leadership was active and could tell they run a tight customer experience, phenomenal execution.
To start, the cocktails were delicious. We really enjoyed the lobster fried rice, crispy beef, pad thai and duck dynasty entrees. Server was energetic and attentive. Overall, a great experience!
While visiting Atlanta because I heard great things bout this hidden and gem and it def didn’t disappoint ... from the the appetizer to the main course was absolutely delicious and our waitress Linda was phenomenal !!!
An incredible find of a restaurant, nestled in mid-town near Piedmont park, easily accessible with a vibrant, up-beat and fun atmosphere, helpful, professional and knowledgeable wait staff and an incredible menu of items to sample (i.e. bites) with 2 people or larger parties or healthy-portioned entrees - all unique, flavorful and many with hidden culinary surprises. A definite to go when in Atlanta!
It was my sons 28th birthday.
My granddaughter and I enjoyed dinner at Poor Calvin’s one Sunday evening. Everything about the food at Poor Calvin’s is outstanding; beautifully plated and delicious. Do try the lobster macaroni and cheese. It’s fabulous! Because the restaurant is in a converted house, be prepared for the unusual traffic pattern where you may have to walk through the waitstaff prep area to get to your table or the restrooms. Otherwise, it’s a real gem!
The food was excellent as always. Lowla our waitress was the best part of the experience. It was my aunts first time and she absolutely loved it. Lowla made sure she had a great first experience. She is already planning on bringing her friends back when they get to town
The food was amazing. Our servers were super friendly and helpful. We will definitely return for another amazing experience.
It was ok, just to loud. I was on a date and i could not hear him, the food was good and amazing. would i come here again. Maybe not but it was cool to say i tried it.
I had eaten at Calvin’s once before about a year ago and the food was excellent. Took some friends with us this time and highly recommended the grouper dish to them which I had before and also ordered. However this time the fish advertised as grouper was not grouper but instead a thin piece of flounder or perhaps whiting. I told the server about it but he just seemed to question me made no apologies whatsoever. I live on the coast in Charleston and eat a lot of grouper — it was not grouper! My wife’s crispy beef dish however was excellent. I don’t know about Atlanta, but it is a state law in Florida for restaurants to falsely advertise grouper.
Simply an unbelievable experience from the customer service, presentation and the OMG taste!
Poor Calvin's is - simply put - the best food I've yet found in Georgia, and is one of the best eats I've found, period. I'm a decently-traveled foodie, too, so I'd like to think i have some perspective on good noms. Calvin's is combining amazingly high-quality food on a plate that is immaculately prepared, well-presented, and incredibly creative. Be prepared to order something that seems familiar enough, only to be blown away in terms of complexity and depth of flavor, texture, and more. Add all this up with an awesome bar full of equally amazing mixology, and you've got the best food in ATL.
The food was amazing! Lola’s service was impeccable! Poor Calvin’s is by far the best restaurant in Atlanta!
Great hearty food. Great festive crowd. Will be back.
Fun vibe, great service and fantastic food. Would do again!
All of our dishes were excellent and the wait staff was phenomenal.
The food here is so flavorful! It's basically an Asian fusion spin on Southern favorites. Great service and easy parking with complementary valet. You will leave full and happy.
I was so disappointed. We usually eat here weekly. The food was cold, my fried chicken, well the water from the broccoli rand over my whole plate.
Enjoyed a lovely afternoon dining with a girlfriend. We each enjoyed a delicious cocktail as well as lunch. Both were very delicious. The food consisted of very fresh ingredients. I hope to dine there again soon.
Superb in every way from being greeted by wait staff and owner, to wonderful food!
I took my lady to Poor Calvin’s to celebrate her birthday. The service was great, from the valet up to the manager. Our waitress Joy was awesome. Joy took the time to explain in good detail the menu and how the food was prepared. She also informed us that to the chefs way of creating his dishes, there can’t be any substitutions. She took her time with us and made sure we were comfortable ordering our meals. The food not only looked great, it was delicious.
Overall really good!!
As always enjoyed my meal
Service was excellent
Our entire party enjoyed ourselves tremendously. The food was terrific. It was very small and a little noisy for my taste and I wish in particular my desert would have been a little less busy - a little less sweet.
Poor Calvin’s has never disappointed us. Customer service is amazing! From the warm welcome that we received when we walked in, to the fantastic service that David provided. It’s truly a pleasure to dine there. The food is amazing! We've never had anything we didn’t love and the wine list is very affordable as well which makes the meal even more enjoyable. Lastly their desserts are slap your Mama good! If your reading this go ahead and make a reservation you will not be disappointed
Experience was phenomenal and food was excellent! We loved everything we ordered. Thanks to the staff!
Delicious food and great service!
Went for Sunday Brunch for my sisters birthday. I got the seafood omelet and it was AMAZING. Everyone else seemed satisfied with their food. The sweet potato waffle was great and the fried chicken was a hit. The beignets were over done. However, our reservations were at 12 and I was thrown off by how many things they were out of already! Also our waitress was a bit awkward and negative.
