About Poor Calvin's

We know the word "fusion" has been wielded about to justify everything from Hula Burgers to Mexican lasagna. But the East-meets-South brand of fusion happening at Poor Calvin's? It's creative; it's innovative; and it's probably unlike anything you've tasted in the ATL. After working in kitchens around the world, Calvin Phan wanted to shake things up a little. And so, into the mac 'n cheese, the Thai spices went. Now, Calvin's giving Southern staples, like sea bass and fried chicken, a decidedly creative Asian-inspired twist (and a nip of spice, too). We didn't think good old-fashioned mac 'n cheese could get much better. And then, we tried Calvin's ridiculously rich take on the cheesy classic, gussied up with chunks of lobster and given a zing with Thai spices. This, and more innovative dishes, approached in much the same way, leave the hands of Calvin Phan day in and day out. His dedication and attention to detail are evident in each dish and dessert. You won't be disappointed.

The food was EXCELLENT!!!! Try the lobster fried rice! Our waiter was Hayes, and he did an excellent job! The hostess, Jessica, was also great. Even the valet was nice. I'll definitely recommend this restaurant. I've heard nothing but good things about it, and now I've experienced it for myself.

I’ve tried several entrees from here. They were all very flavorful and delicious. You can’t go wrong with anything you choose. Nice size portions not too small. You MUST save room for dessert they are wonderful.

This was my first time dining at Poor Calvin's and the food was amazing. This was my birthday dinner and I'm so happy I passed on making reservations at another restaurant. I ordered the lobster wontons for an appetizer and the lobster rice for my entrée. I also ordered a Martini (can't remember the name). Let's just say, I will be back! Next time I will try the fried chicken and lobster mac n' cheese. The only negative comment I have was the lighting. I hate dark lighting....especially in restaurants.
Oh, our waiter gave me some tiramisu for my birthday.

We went on a Thursday evening. I got the trout special, and my meal was delicious. It was too much food and the leftovers tasted great the next day. My boyfriend got the fried chicken and lobster mac n cheese. He complained of the chicken being dry. I tried the mac n cheese and it has a strange taste to it. The beer selection was great, and the fried goat cheese was good. The acoustics weren't great, making it hard to have a conversation and enjoy each other's company. The service was perfect. I would maybe go back if I wanted to get drunk with girlfriends, but not for an average meal out. I also thought the portions were slightly overpriced for what they were.

We wanted someplace Southern, but I love Asian fusion. Poor Calvin’s is the perfect mix of both. Great cocktails, busy energetic, but not too crazy. Attentive, entertaining service and amazing food. My wife had fried chicken, lobster mac and greens. I had grouper curry with coconut brown rice. We were too full for dessert.

It was my wife and I's first time to Poor Calvin's; we had the pad Thai tiger shrimp and the crispy beef, both dishes were great. Service was good and the drinks were good along with the food so we will definitely return.

The best food every single time I visit. Great ambience. Great for movie star watching as
well. Most visiting Hollywood stars visit this place so it's always fun spotting them anytime I stop at Poor Calvin's.
Lobster macaroni and cheese always a great starter, everyone raves about the buttermilk frog legs and every entree I've had here were absolutely divine.

Food was amazing. Had the crispy beef - recommend for sure. It was extremely loud, but that could have been due to the excited table seated next to us, and may not be reflective of the normal atmosphere. Server was familiar with the menu and was extremely nice. Super crowded spot on a Saturday night at 7:30 so make sure you get a reservation.

I had the fried green tomatoes, lobster mac n cheese, sweet potato waffles/fried chicken and Sangria. There are a few other dishes that looked amazing that I can hardly wait to go back and try. The portion sizes were a great value for the price. The food was well prepared and seasoned. The sweet potato waffle was extremely tasty.

My group arrived very close to the end of brunch hours, but we were able to get a table with no problem. Our server was attentive and meet our needs.

It's not really feasible to sit with your friends if you have a large party, 6 or more, because the restaurant is a bit small, but I would definitely recommend Poor Calvins!

Made a reservation for brunch and I had chicken and waffles, she had chicken with lobster mac and cheese. Both were wonderful and devoured quickly. Some of the specialty mixed drinks looked tasty. We were there when they opened and it got really loud quickly.

Loved Poor Calvin's from the moment I arrived.Hostess greeted us immediately, found a seat at the bar to wait for our table. Bartender crafted us a beautiful Pho. Our server Tim was amazing and offered excellent suggestions . Loved every bite of each dish and small plates. Full house and we had no trouble hearing each other. What a wonderful night, Thank you.

Professional outfit with a lively vibe, professional service and a cheerful clientele. The food though was disappointing, with many dishes over-rich and lacking in subtlety. In our party of four, no one had a great meal (though no one had a terrible one either).

One of the top five restaurants in Atlanta. Can’t miss the lobster fried rice. Lobster Mac and cheese. Crab grill chees. Deviled eggs. So many great dishes.

Awesome time at Poor Calvin’s. We were there celebrating a birthday/baby shower and the staff took heat care of us. They allowed us to bring in flowers to decorate the table and were very helpful making sure that we had everything we needed. Our waitress was very knowledgeable about the food options and kept us entertained with her personality. Food was great. I had the grouper Thai dish which was full of veggies and tasty. Also had the eggplant which was pretty good also. The pound cake dessert was yummy!

Great place to host a birthday celebration! The food is fabulous and the service is top-notch!! One of my co-workers left her phone and did not realize it, to our surprise the server literally ran us down(we were in the car) to make sure she got it back. A+ service in my book, we will definitely be back!

My friends and I were seated promptly in the section towards the back of the enclosed patio. The waiter was kind and attentive the entire time. The drinks were amazing and the food was delicious! I had the eggs benedict crab cake and next time I want to try the fried chicken with lobster mac n cheese. It's a great place to go to brunch with friends or take a date out to dinner.
