Fusion / Eclectic
We know the word "fusion" has been wielded about to justify everything from Hula Burgers to Mexican lasagna. But the East-meets-South brand of fusion happening at Poor Calvin's? It's creative; it's innovative; and it's probably unlike anything you've tasted in the ATL. After working in kitchens around the world, Calvin Phan wanted to shake things up a little. And so, into the mac 'n cheese, the Thai spices went. Now, Calvin's giving Southern staples, like sea bass and fried chicken, a decidedly creative Asian-inspired twist (and a nip of spice, too). We didn't think good old-fashioned mac 'n cheese could get much better. And then, we tried Calvin's ridiculously rich take on the cheesy classic, gussied up with chunks of lobster and given a zing with Thai spices. This, and more innovative dishes, approached in much the same way, leave the hands of Calvin Phan day in and day out. His dedication and attention to detail are evident in each dish and dessert. You won't be disappointed.

Everything about this place is amazing! We came on a Sunday night after reading the reviews online and they did not disappoint! The food was amazing. The drinks were great. Our waitress, Joy, was on point with every recommendation. Definitely a must when in ATL.

The manager was great. They accommodated our party ahead of our reservation and allowed us to sit outside as requested. The manager offered to cover our table even though there wasn’t a dedicated server outside at the time. She was INCREDIBLY kind, knowledgeable, welcoming, fun and had a great welcoming spirit. The food..... amazing! I had the calamari and the pineapple fried rice... yum! Even my vegetarian friend was able to find something that she enjoyed. The other young lady had lamb chops and she said they were delicious.

The server was not attentive. I was not privy of Poor Calvin's special of day meals or cocktail. PC's Karen shared daily specials with other customers not me. A very long wait to receive my entree. Karen boxed up my leftovers in the kitchen every other restaurant has changed the leftover boxing up process due to covid-45 you are given the task to box up your own food. Karen was side eye RUDE to another co worker twice that I overheard myself

From the moment I was greeted at the door, I was accommodated more than adequately than I expected. I would highly suggest this place for anyone looking for a cohesive experience.

I did not enjoy sitting by the front door which was open and flies came in. Food and service was great though.

We are big fans of both southern and Asian food, and while we love authentic food from both cuisines, we’re not foodies who can’t enjoy fusion food. Poor Calvin’s is a self-identified fusion restaurant, but I don’t think it nails either cuisine or it’s fusion creations. We had a sampler platter appetizer, the duck curry, crispy beef. Everything was just fine, not amazing. Stand out items were the lychee martini and red velvet suspension cake with mascarpone cheese. And our server was a character and provided excellent service. Finally, I do believe the prices are much much too high. Everyone raves about the restaurant so I decided to give it a second chance, but I was unfortunately disappointed.

Our server was AMAZING!! He was knowledgeable with all items on the menu and his up selling skills were on point. We ordered the wonton app as well as the surprise appetizer not on the menu. OMG. Our entrees 2 lobster and fried rice and 1 duck. Dessert consisted of the green pound cake and the one with the peach cobbler.
I wanted to do something nice for my mom and my son and decided to bring them to Poor Calvin’s. Mom and my son enjoyed everything!

We decided to come to Poor Calvin's for our 5th year wedding anniversary and that was the best chooce we made. As we walked in, gave my last name, immediately we were told Happy Anniversary. They had a special place picked just for us which was perfect. We ordered the steam dumplings and the crispy beef. Both were amazing.

The only thing I was disappointed with was that they changed up on that colorful jasmine rice. That rice was to die for. That was our main reason for choosing this place. We ordered on doordash 2 weeks prior and wanted to experience that rice again. But overall, the food and servi e was amazing. I wish I could give 20 stars.

This was our first time to dine-in in a restaurant in Atlanta since the Covid19 pandemic started. We were able to get an outside table sufficiently distanced to make us comfortable.

The meal was the usual -exceptional - Poor Calvin's standard. We shared a special of the day appetizer - The Fried Green Tomatoes with Crab - SIMPLY FANTASTIC ! This should be on the regular menu permanently.
I had the Soft-Shell Crab as my entree (another daily special) it too was absolutely wonderful !!!

Can't say enough good things about Poor Calvin's - It's our favorite restaurant in Atlanta.

The food is always amazingly good. We ate family style ordering the crispy beef, lobster fried rice, ribs and the chicken dinner. We some greedy folks it was only 3 of us but of course I got to take home the leftovers and it's lunch and dinner for a day! #winnerwinnerchickendinner lol.

Love the new covid look - the separation with the drapes and lucite wall barriers make it comforting and relaxing. The wall has been opened up in front so it's easier to wait on your party to be seated.

Staff is courteous and welcoming. Love this place. Much success in the coming years.

The Restutant needs more vegetarian options. They only have one curry dish& that’s not enough. Right now we need more veggie options. Also they didn’t have any booster seats or high chairs for kids. If this is an adult only establishment then they should state that on their website. It was a tight fit with my family so we couldn’t even accommodate the car seat.
