We know the word "fusion" has been wielded about to justify everything from Hula Burgers to Mexican lasagna. But the East-meets-South brand of fusion happening at Poor Calvin's? It's creative; it's innovative; and it's probably unlike anything you've tasted in the ATL. After working in kitchens around the world, Calvin Phan wanted to shake things up a little. And so, into the mac 'n cheese, the Thai spices went. Now, Calvin's giving Southern staples, like sea bass and fried chicken, a decidedly creative Asian-inspired twist (and a nip of spice, too). He has created innovative dishes, approached in much the same way, leave the hands of Calvin Phan day in and day out. His dedication and attention to detail are evident in each dish and dessert. We were greeted at the door and sat immediately (perfect). Our server, Louise, was excellent! She made our experience better with her great service and knowledge. The ginger beer drink and lavender lemonade were fantastic drinks. The food was hit and miss, mostly miss. The wonton were a big disappointment. Hard and sweet with a mushy filling. They were more like hard ravioli. The Seabass entree was overcooked. Not sure how a light fish, bok choy, and a HUGE pile of mashed potatoes work. What was the thought there, the vision? My mother actually asked for hot sauce, which I think said it all. The pork chop with lobster special was messy and didn't work. The pork was too salty, the lobster was fried so hard you couldn't taste the lobster, and it was difficult to cut into or even chew. I still can't figure out how the HUGE pile of mashed potatoes fit this dish, because they didn't work at all, in my opinion. My wife did enjoy the Arcadian salad, dumplings and deviled eggs. I did notice the eggs were only topped, yolk not taken out, seasoned and put back, as they usually are for deviled eggs. The chicken for my toddler was great, she finished half the plate, which is a lot for her. We shared their signature dessert, which was delicious. The red velvet, chocolate ganache, fruit and mascarpone cheese was great. Bottom line, I came here for the food and it wasn't very good.

It was a great experience overall. The food was excellent, our server was helpful and friendly, the atmosphere was great, the cocktails excellent and the service was quick. The portion sizes are very good and the desserts are humongous and delicious. The owner, Calvin comes around and speaks to you personally. Its a littke pricy but overall good value. We will definitely be going back again and again.

Delicious food and cocktails. A little on the higher side, but worth it. The space is kind of tight between some of the tables, so take that into account. Highly suggest the Lychee martini. Server was polite and very knowledgeable.

Food was outstanding as usual. The drink special (a smokey old fashioned) was a nice surprise. Our server, Louise was exceptional. We were there for our daughter’s birthday and a number of staff came to the table together and had a drink with us. Great experience

Unbelievable dining experience and my new favorite in Atlanta! The flavors were like nothing we’d ever had, chef’s special pork chop with lobster and lamb chops! Our server was also fantastic! Will definitely be back!

We went to Poor Calvin’s on a girls trip to Atlanta and it did not disappoint! The food was phenomenal and our server created the best atmosphere for us. His drink recommendations were spot on and we all tried something unexpected. 10/10!!!

Lots of rules for the dining experience. Party of 3, awaited the 3rd while hanging on the wall and obstructing passage of servers. Then asked to hop up from bar seating after ordering drinks to seat walk-in diners. The server was completely attentive and accommodating. Food quality was impeccable and it was an added touch to have Calvin visit our table. My family enjoyed their first experience and my repeat experience.

Poor Calvin’s is always a treat! My sister and I visited here for a quiet celebratory dinner. The food was as always spectacular! I had the fried green tomatoes and they were cooked to perfection! The Korean beef was the star! I then had the fried grouper which was amazing. The grouper was cooked to perfection! We wrapped up dinner with the peach cobbler empanadas! They were yummy but I felt the breading to peach ratio was slightly off. There was definitely more breading in the filling. The homemade ice cream was definitely the star of the dessert. Overall, this was a great dinner. I would revisit soon.

From the time we walked into the door until we left, everything was amazing! The service was stellar, the cocktails were refreshingly vibrant and the food was layered with flavor in each bite. As usual our experience at Poor Calvin/s was wonderful.. The food was delicious. I had the Lamb Chops, which were well seasoned, moist and cooked perfectly. My husband ordered the evening special. He enjoyed his entrée as well.

This was our first outing to Poor Calvin's and what an eye opening experience. The flavor profiles, the decor, and our wonderful server Anthony made this experience memorable. We celebrated our 1st year anniversary in the best brunch spot in Atlanta.

Came hear for a birthday dinner. Everything was great; food, service, ambiance. Our waitress (sorry, forgot her name) was wonderful; she explained every dish to us and even told us about some options that were not on the menu. She was very pleasant. The food was good and you get a large portion. The ambiance is more of an intimate setting; great place for date night. I highly recommend.

One of the best dining experiences of my life. It’s a cool place to dine in. Service was above and beyond. The Lobster Fried Rice was soooooooo yummy. The Fuji apple & Vanilla Pound Cake deserts were to die for. If you are in Atlanta you need to eat here.
