Fusion / Eclectic
We know the word "fusion" has been wielded about to justify everything from Hula Burgers to Mexican lasagna. But the East-meets-South brand of fusion happening at Poor Calvin's? It's creative; it's innovative; and it's probably unlike anything you've tasted in the ATL. After working in kitchens around the world, Calvin Phan wanted to shake things up a little. And so, into the mac 'n cheese, the Thai spices went. Now, Calvin's giving Southern staples, like sea bass and fried chicken, a decidedly creative Asian-inspired twist (and a nip of spice, too). We didn't think good old-fashioned mac 'n cheese could get much better. And then, we tried Calvin's ridiculously rich take on the cheesy classic, gussied up with chunks of lobster and given a zing with Thai spices. This, and more innovative dishes, approached in much the same way, leave the hands of Calvin Phan day in and day out. His dedication and attention to detail are evident in each dish and dessert. You won't be disappointed.

An amazing experience in a very special ambiance, we had an awesome waitress who really made this a night to remember. The food was really good as well, appetizers were amazing and we enjoyed a nice cocktail with it. The restaurant offered an uber ride back on their expense, I've never had that before and I think it's a great service. The area around the restaurant is a bit dodgy at night so I'd recommend to take an uber and then you'll have no problems at all!

We visited a number of restaurants in Atlanta but *this* is the one I would go back to!

Food was amazing. Very creative fresh ingredients. Plating was beautiful. We had the lobster wonton. Looked much like a ravioli. Basil roll is a refreshing contrast to a slightly heavier lobster wonton. The Chilean sea bass with bok Choy is perfectly cooked, nice portion. The grouper has a light batter, fried perfectly with a mild curry sauce and pineapple green bean stir fry.

Great restaurant ~ great food. We were immediately seated. However, the hostess immediately let us know that since we reserved with Open Table we would have to be out of our seats by 7:30 mind you we had a 6:15 reservation. She proceeded to tell is that the table turns over at 7:30 pm!!!! Why? That’s not something I need to know... what a way to bring down our mood by rushing us...luckily she left us alone.

I would definitely recommend this restaurant. Food was good besides the Spring rolls. They tasted like grass. The restaurant seemed a bit crowded (I was told they had recently renovated). And lastly, it was entirely too loud. My friend and I could barely hear ourselves speak from across the table. Our server even made a comment about the noise. The table next to us and another table behind us. I wouldn’t care to come again on a weekend because of the noise.

Best brunch ever! The food was absolutely amazing! The service was excellent. The only blip was that we arrived 13 minutes earlier than our reservation, and the hostess refused to seat us until our reservation, which was ridiculous because there were plenty of tables available, and she seated people who didn’t have reservations before us. The phenomenal food and excellent service by our server made up for it though. The wonton appetizer and friend chicken with lobster Mac and cheese were out of this world! We will definitely go back! :)

I was referred to Poor Calvin's by a neighbor and I could not thank him enough. The name doesn't do this restaurant any justice, in fact it make be misleading. Poor Calvin's has the finest cuisine I have had in years, and I have eaten at many restaurants in various states. They have something on the menu for every taste palate. The food is always served hot with the best fresh ingredients. The desserts are delicious and the drinks are great. The quality control ensures nothing leaves the kitchen that isn't fit for royalty. Although I have has dinner here on 3 occasions, this was my first brunch visit and they did not disappoint. They're pricing is more than reasonable for a restaurant of this quality. Poor Calvin's is now my favorite restaurant. I can not wait to try another item on the menu or one of their daily specials. To the owner and entire staff. Job well done!!! Keep up the good work.

First time here for dinner and it’s equally as delicious as brunch! The seafood curry dish is yummy and the fried grouper served on top of the pineapple was heavenly! Highly recommend, the service was a quite a bit slower than at brunch but well worth the wait!

This is my second time eating at this restaurant and there is always a line even with reservation and hard to get a decent time. I went today which is a Tuesday and I was able to get an 8:30 reservation, we finally got seated around 8:45pm. I ordered a lobster Mac n cheese as an appetizer and a Thai tea. The tea was too much coconut milk and no tea taste and lobster Mac n cheese had a little kick to it. I asked them if they had a kid”s’ meal and they say they have chicken and fries,so I ordered that until our waiter came back and said they “ ran out” of fries and if I wanted anything else so I said no Just the chicken would bring fine so I asked for some ketchup and guess what the waiter gave me a weird look and said sorry we don’t have ketchup. This is the first restaurant I’ve been to that said they don’t have ketchup, I think is little ridiculous that first they ran out of fries then they don’t have ketchup.

My kid end up not eating since he was hoping for his fries the whole time:(

This time around eating with this restaurant was very disappointed and don’t know if I will ever return agajn!

Our first time to Poor Calvin’s did not disappoint. Each dish was scrumptious. The flavors were amazing. Deviled eggs and lobster wontons for appetizers. Fried chicken, lobster Mac and cheese with greens was my husbands choice for entre. I had the Curry Seafood. Amazing! We saw the desserts passing us, going to other tables. They are huge! We chose the pound cake. Wow! Another wow, the service! Impeccable. Calvin’s is our new favorite restaurant. We will be back!
