Fusion / Eclectic
We know the word "fusion" has been wielded about to justify everything from Hula Burgers to Mexican lasagna. But the East-meets-South brand of fusion happening at Poor Calvin's? It's creative; it's innovative; and it's probably unlike anything you've tasted in the ATL. After working in kitchens around the world, Calvin Phan wanted to shake things up a little. And so, into the mac 'n cheese, the Thai spices went. Now, Calvin's giving Southern staples, like sea bass and fried chicken, a decidedly creative Asian-inspired twist (and a nip of spice, too). We didn't think good old-fashioned mac 'n cheese could get much better. And then, we tried Calvin's ridiculously rich take on the cheesy classic, gussied up with chunks of lobster and given a zing with Thai spices. This, and more innovative dishes, approached in much the same way, leave the hands of Calvin Phan day in and day out. His dedication and attention to detail are evident in each dish and dessert. You won't be disappointed.

Great food, ambiance and drinks!!!! On a Saturday night, of your reservation Is for let’s say 9:30, don’t expect anything before your time. This place is a hot spot that will have you seated exactly when you ask not later or earlier!

This place is an all-around 5 Star dining experience. From the moment you arrive, you can feel the energy. The staff is well educated in their menu from the delicious hand crafted drinks (I recommend and of their signature cocktails) to enticing appetizers (try the deep fried deviled eggs) and I always want to get their house special or Lobster Fried Rice. You can't go wrong. Impeccable service, food that is perfectly seasoned and prepared in a way that will make you want to keep coming back. Desserts that are to-die for! If you haven't saved room for dessert, get it to go, just don't miss out!

Everything was great! Starting with valet parking great! Staff was friendly and accommodating. They asked about food allergies before we started. Great off menu items for the night including several seafood dishes.
The seafood melange with the saffron pasta is a must try!
If you’ve never had duck this is the place to try it! Nicely smoked and so tender and flavorful.
The desserts are great and big enough to share! Great service and birthday dinner

Enjoyed the meal at Poor Calvin’s. Interesting mix of flavor and style. Asian with flair. We had Lobster Fried Rice and Sweet and sour chicken, both very tasty. Dessert was awesome! Service was very good — timely, attentive, and friendly.
Enjoyed the experience and will return.

As always, the food was absolutely delicious. Our server was amazing and very informative - described everything so well. Overall it left a great impression on my date who had never dined here before. One of my favorite restaurants in Atlanta, hands down.

We did wait about 30 minutes for our reservation which was not ideal but the bar, while crowded, still offered excellent cocktails with little wait. The staff was very apologetic and kept us updated. When we arrived at our table, the manager comped us 3 apps which was above and beyond our inconvenience for the wait. The service was fantastic. The food was fantastic. Everything (outside of the minor inconvenience of a wait) was perfect. As a restaurant, you cant control when tables open up, you can only estimate. However, the response of making your guests feel welcomed and compensated for the inconvenience is something you can do. Their response was more than I could have ever expected. Poor Calvins has always been on my list as a solid option but now it is at the top of the list. Well done!

The food is fabulous -- consistently so. Love sitting on the cozy and festive porch in the rear. A little noisy, but at least there is no music blaring.

The portions are smaller and the cost has increased. The crispy beef definitely didn’t taste the same as it normally does. It will be a long time before I return.

Everytime I come to Poor Calvin's, my tastebuds are exposed to yet another culinary marvel. This time I had the fried chicken with lobster mac and cheese and collard greens and I damn near passed out it was so good. I have no had a bad dining experience yet with Poor Calvin's and I don't see that ever happening! Magnifique!! 👏🏾👏🏾

A friendly restaurant with good Asian fusion food. Cocktails are good and strong. Be aware that you can be drunk easily there ; ) the only disappointment was the dessert. Not good, sugary, fatty, untasty. I recommend avoiding them, which in a way is good for your budget (the restaurant is pricy) and your diet.

Everything was phenomenal, from the moment we walked in through the end. Carla was extremely knowledgeable and energetic about the menu. She gave us excellent recommendations. Service was prompt on everything from drinks to clearing the table. Food was outstanding. Fried rice and lobster, as well as the crispy beef were bursting with color and flavor. We loved the deviled eggs with Korean BBQ pork. Thank you for a great night!

This is my third time at Calvin’s and definitely the least of my favorite. The food is fantastic, as always, however the rest of the experience was below Calvin’s standards that I have experienced. I had a reservation at 1:30 and wasn’t seated until 1:50 because the hostess said she was “waiting for our table to leave”, although there were clearly other tables open. We sat on the closed in porch area and it was so loud that we had to shout throughout our meal and our waiter literally had to shout at us the entire time. Our waiter was also somewhat off-putting as he interrupted one of the people at the table to tell them “you shouldn’t order that. Instead you should get ....”, which I felt was very rude. As I said before, the food came out timely and was amazing. I have recommended this restaurant several times, unfortunately I will have a difficult time returning after this experience.
