Maybe my favorite restaurant ever!!
Always a great time at Poor Calvin’s. From the greeting at the door, terrific bartenders and THE best Sangrias, to chatting with Calvin on what’s new and what we should have.
Our waiter Tim was right on and always there before you needed him with a personality to match everything about the restaurant.
We started with the Fried Goat Cheese and Lobster Won Tons - I had the newly crafted smoked Duck which is to die for and Debbie had the highly recommended Lobster Rice by Calvin himself.
Great evening, fabulous dinner and atmosphere that is outstanding.
Always bring our out of town guests and they are always impressed! Make your reservation! It’s well worth it.
Food was amazing. Staff was even better. Valet attitude was bad. But the restaurant was a great experience over all
This was our first visit to Poor Calvin's and I must say that we will be returning for brunch next time. The menu options must change from time to time but everything we had was delicious and we had leftovers that tasted better the next day!
Our first visit to Poor Calvins, while on vacation in Atlanta- the service was top notch, our waitress knew the menu, and was able to make suggestions based on our likes, and dislikes. She had a great personality, was quick, and efficient. No matter what we requested, she fulfilled it with a smile. In addition - the food, and drink, were exceptional, and the eclectic decor was beautiful, and interesting to look at. Our visit was truly an experience.
Our biggest issue was the wait before we sat down . We had a reservation for 1:15 and arrived around 1:09 . We didn’t get seated until 1:45. We frequently visit poor Calvin’s and normally don’t have any issues but today was very disappointing.
Went on a Saturday at 5:00 (at time of opening for dinner) and had another wonderful experience. THis was our 2nd time going to Poor Calvin's for our wedding anniversary and the food and service was spectacular. While the restaurant is small and cozy, the staff there has a process for getting patrons in, making them feel at home and sending them on their way smiling because of the experience. The lobster fried rice, deviled eggs and crispy beef were awesomely delicious. We will be back again and again and again. Love it.
Our reservation was set for when the restaurant first opened (Saturday brunch, 11:30am). First impressions are lasting and the owner pulled up in his BMW, no "hello," no "hey, we'll be with you shortly," nothing. He proceeded to walk through us on his phone, open the restaurant then lock the door behind him. When we got in side, the front area staff was VERY rude! Not only was there an error with my reservation, they were just beyond taking their job too seriously. When we finally got to our table, again we had another issue with the front area staff and she had to go get management. At this point we wanted to leave but didn't want to leave our waitress hanging because she was very nice. The food was good, our waiter was nice but I would be very reluctant to come back. I wouldn't deter someone else from coming, I'd let them make their own decision.
I love this place. Our waitress was pleasant, knowledgeable and suggested great items on the menu.
We will be back!!
The food was great and the service was even better.
It’s an amazing place
The lobster fried rice is phenomenal. The duck dynasty is a must have. I look forward to coming back to Poor Calvin’s.
Menu creativity is out of this world; and so is the food. Very chill vibe.
Never miss an opportunity to eat at Poor Calvin’s!

I have been to Poor Calvin's on several occasions. This is the first time the food was off. I ordered the filet mignon and it was tasteless. The other entrees and drinks were delicious. I would recommend this restaurant, but everything taste great except for the steaks.
Save room for the peach empanadas ice cream dessert!
Excellent service. The employees are very friendly. The food is good. Had both Brunch and Dinner and was not disappointed.
Excellent food! Very noisy atmosphere! Great place for hanging with friends. Not recommended for a romantic date
Enjoyed Sunday brunch with my family. The food and service were wonderful.
Enjoyed everything; the unique aspect of the menu options is a delicious and very nice addition.
Had a late evening reservation, was seated approximately 15 min after we arrived, no issue with that as we grabbed a drink at the bar and waited outside until the table was ready. Waitress was great, gave recommendations on what we asked and was pretty much spot on. We started with the seafood spring rolls and the fried goat cheese, were spot on, big portions. I ordered the Siam Smoked Duck and my wife got the Lobster Mac and Cheese. Both were outstanding. Asked the waitress for some bread to sop up the rest of that sauce that was on the duck, shouldn't leave any of that on the plate. I cannot express how much we enjoyed the evening. Only downside of the evening was my air bnb key fell out of my pocket, didn't realize it until we got back to the location. I ubered back, they let me in (were closed) and they had found the key while cleaning up. They helped avert what could have been a nightmare to just a story. Will definitely go back if I am ever in Atl Mid Town area and have already recommended it to everyone I know there.
Best cocktails! Friendly staff and a cool atmosphere!
This evening was my second dining experience, last week I took my husband for his birthday. The food and customer service, like last weekend was amazing. This evening I had the Pad Thai Shrimp and Scallops. It did not disappoint, it was delicious.
I had the lobster fried rice and my girlfriend had the pineapple shrimp fried rice. The food comes and they bring her dish out inside of a pineapple. The raspberry tea was also like no other, it's a must-try if you go! We were blown away by how outstanding everything was, from the taste and appearance of the dishes to the excellent service. We will definitely be back.
Look I’m just going to say - you need to go - plan on great food -
great service and a great time - thank
In town for a show, and we wanted something a little different. We were not disappointed. Great service, delicious food. The lobster fried rice is more than enough to share. This place is now on our list of repeat visit, when in Atlanta.
Food and service are excellent!! I went back two weekends in a row!! Try the Lobster fried rice and the fried chicken.
We arrived a little earlier than our reservation and were constantly betrayed by the hostess to stand along the mirrored wall as opposed to the bar because we were ‘in the way’. Unfortunately, the design of the restaurant didn’t provide the ability to just stand at the bar and have a drink. Although we understand what the hostess was saying, her tone and manner in which she was telling us to love was rude and inconsiderate. Ultimately, we ended up drinking our drinks outside until we were called for our table. Tim, our server, was wonderful and made great menu recommendations especially since we hadn’t dined there in a while.
Ordered the grouper and the seafood curry. Food was delicious. A little pricey but we did not regret it afterwards!
Poor Calvin was a hidden gem offering creative cocktails and selection of unique dishes. We shared several small plates but plan to be back to try some of their entrees.
My daughter and I enjoyed the incredible food, especially the Peach Cobbler Empanadas with bouron ice cream. They may be the best dessert we have had in years. That is high praise as we are definite chocoholics!
We always beat at Poor Calvin’s when we go to Atlanta for a show at the Fox. The food and service is always excellent. I do recommend reservations, as it can be very busy and the wait time could be lengthy.
Hopefully the renovations will allow more space and less cumbersome seating arrangements
Seating arrangements are entirely too close! Definitely not an intimate setting to even have small conversation without your neighbor being involved in your conversation. Not enough room for waiters to engage / take orders. FOOD: YIKES! My calamari (small bite)was awesome. However, the dinner entree was ( fried chicken ) was friend too dark/ hard. The lobster mac and cheese had juices from collards which caused the "lob mac" to be soggy. Collards were overly sweet. My date hardly ate and disposed of her meal without barely touching.
One of our favorite restaurants. Absolutely love the food and ambiance
I made the reservation 2 days in advance. Terrible seating placement! Lots of available tables and they stuffed us into a small tight corner with a large business group there on lunch. Complete bewilderment! Was considering asking for food to go so we could just get out; my bf convinced me to ask to move. Food was good and our server was very nice. They did give us a free dessert after the relocation.
Awesome food and atmosphere. The chicken, lobster Mac and cheese and greens were amazing!!! I will definitely come back whenever I visit Atlanta.
Since moving to Atlanta, six years ago, Poor Calvin's has become my favorite restaurant in this City. The quality of the food is consistently excellent, the menu provides variety and the portions are ample. The cocktails are fun, the atmosphere is congenial and the waitstaff, from my experience, is on-point. And, Ms. Lola is always rememberable...Sha Nah Nah. The desserts look and sound wonderful...if only I could leave room for dessert. Next visit, I'll start with dessert.
Time and time again poor Calvin’s always delivers my wife and I’s favorite dining experience in Atlanta. The sea bass she got she hasn’t stopped talking about.
