We know the word "fusion" has been wielded about to justify everything from Hula Burgers to Mexican lasagna. But the East-meets-South brand of fusion happening at Poor Calvin's? It's creative; it's innovative; and it's probably unlike anything you've tasted in the ATL. After working in kitchens around the world, Calvin Phan wanted to shake things up a little. And so, into the mac 'n cheese, the Thai spices went. Now, Calvin's giving Southern staples, like sea bass and fried chicken, a decidedly creative Asian-inspired twist (and a nip of spice, too). He has created innovative dishes, approached in much the same way, leave the hands of Calvin Phan day in and day out. His dedication and attention to detail are evident in each dish and dessert. From the 1st time I dined there in 2018, I have returned and promoted it to all of my friends. The food and drinks are exceptionally good, presentation appealing, and the staff is very knowledgeable and attentive. The Chilean seabass and lamb chops were mouthwatering, delicious!!

Fantastic Food & Service‼️👍🏽 While I have eaten here several times the service just keeps getting better. The wait staff is ALWAYS friendly and on point. This recent visit we had the dinner special which was phenomenal-serving size and taste. Kudos to the entire staff and to James, the Manager who keeps it all in order. If you haven’t been to Poor Calvin’s you must put on your bucket list for an Atlanta restaurant dining experience🍽

Rodney was the BEST! He did a very good job at explaining the menus and specials for the day, to include drinks. He was very pleasant and attentive during our whole meal. I have been wanting to try Poor Calvin’s for a while now, and I’m so glad we did. I had chicken and waffle and ate it all. My daughter had lobster fried rice and it was pretty tasty too, but too big of a serving to eat at one sitting. I definitely recommend Poor Calvin’s!

I have been waiting to go here since we had to cancel due to the pandemic. Everything was wonderful except for the noise level. Where we were seated caught noise from diners entering and from where the servers and hosts gathered as well as from the bar area. I ordered the lobster fried rice and it was delicious. My daughter ordered the fried chicken and my husband ordered the chef’s special. The service was spectacular. We did not order cocktails. It’s a definite do-over.

This is our second time dining here. The quality of the food is excellent. Except this time our steamed dumplings appetizer was good if one came frozen and inedible. They brought us a replacement. Service was so-so especially with drinks. Ordered second round but came out so late. Should have cancelled. Overall I would recommend as the lobster fried rice is divine as is the crispy beef with shrimp. Second time I went with seafood curry (very good). My son had the lobster pad Thai (excellent). Dumplings were good if one didn’t come out still frozen. I’m sure it was made fresh then frozen. Should have been fully cooked if steamed. The sauce was very good though.

Overall Experience was Good. Service was on point. Appetizers were Excellent. We had Crispy beef and Lobster Fried rice. Crispy beef tasted of dirty unfiltered grease(fried in bad grease). The Lobster fried rice had two pieces of chopped lobster and an over fried lobster tail with no seasoning on top of really good fried rice. The ambience was Amazing. Great Place to celebrate. We will be back. Only tonight the entrees were off.

Poor Calvin’s was a mixed bag. The service and drinks were top notch. The food however was either hit or miss. Started the service with four appetizers. The wontons and mussels were amazing. The deviled eggs were edible but the fusion attempt on this dish was a far stretch. Stay away. Also took a swing at the special appetizer: Mole Tamale. Again, this was an absolute meltdown of culinary standards. The tamale texture was that of a door stop. I was hoping the mole would be the star of the dish but was no where to be found. Took a hard pass on ordering an entree after my appetizer experience. I hope it was just a bad day….

Simply delightful. Good comfy atmosphere and vibe. Service was excellent and friendly. The place is on the smallish end, which i liked. Food was delicious! I tried the seafood cakes appetizers and they were wonderfully flavorful. I then had the duck, also delicious. I recommend and wash i lived near by to try other items. Deserts looked great, though i didn’t have one.
