Excellent food and service. One of the best restaurants I've been to. Ate there four years ago on a business trip and this was my second time and brought my wife with me for a funeral and drove 3 hours to get there. Absolutely love the food. The best crab cakes and the sweet potato beignets are amazing.
Three of the four dining companions did not enjoy their meals. This was definitely an off night. The crawfish and corn soup was very oily, so much so that it was sent back without even taking one bite (it was disgusting looking) and taken off the ticket. It seemed the entrees were not prepared fresh as they tasted of reheated pasta and etouffee. Very disappointed as this restaurant usually does not miss so badly. Oh well, I guess we all can't be on point every time. Will give them another chance in the future. Server was great and did a fantastic job!
Atmosphere is not as shown on TV commercials. Had to eat while looking at people wearing baseball caps. A complete turnoff. I expected better. Food was ok, but pricey. Fried crawfish were overcooked and chewy. Portions were small. Mushroom appetizer and beignet dessert were excellent. Staff members were very attentive to our needs. Great service.
This place is well known so I had high expectations for the food. I was a little disappointed.
I tried the following dishes:
Crabbies - ok, a little too much cheese
Stuffed Mushrooms (grilled and fried) - these were very good!
Corn and Crawfish Soup - not good, tasted burnt
Seafood Gumbo - not good, too thick and not a great flavor
Tilapia and Grilled Veggies - tilapia was good but the veggies were overcooked
For 3 people we spent around $130. Not bad, but I have spent less and been happier with the food at other places in Lafayette.
While I wasn't super happy with the food, the service was great. We went on Mother's Day and even though it was very busy we didn't feel forgotten or neglected by our waitress. They also gave flowers to the women who were there on Mother's Day, which was a nice touch.
Overall, I wouldn't tell someone not to go there. However, it wouldn't be the first place I would recommend, especially since there are so many great places to eat in Lafayette (that are easier to get to).
My wife and I enjoy poor boys because the fresh ingredients such as lump crabmeat on several dishes is delicious. We always eat seafood dishes because they have so many that are very good. We also like the atmosphere , casual, and we have always gotten very good service. We would recommend this restaurant to all seafood lovers especially. It is locally owned and is a very friendly place.
Wonderful. Love this place. We have stopped here twice on our travels through Lafayette and had a fantastic meal each time. The crab meat is our favorite. This time we had crab fingers as an appetizer (marinated & fried) and thought they were delicious. We then each ordered sauteed crab meat in butter and could not have been happier. It was so fresh, moist, and simply prepared. Great service and nice atmosphere. We will ALWAYS come back here when traveling through Lafayette. Save room for the amazing Sweet Potato Beignets.......Yummy.
Called 24 hours in advance to cancel - staff at Riverside said all was good - but the Open Table reservation was never canceled - and I was called by the restaurant the next night. I felt bad for them as I know holding tables is difficult - but I did what I was asked to do -- sorry about that Riverside!
I have always gotten a great meal. Food is always hot , tasty , and a good value. My wife and I love the plentiful use of fresh lump crabmeat on several dishes. We always find the ambiance unbeatable. The management and staff are always pleasant and try to do everything they can to make your occasion special. We have not had lunch but will highly recommend dinner.
This place has a selection of some of the best local seafood options available. You will not find better lump crabmeat any where, and the serving size is very generous. Grilled flounder - bone in - has been one of my favorites for years. They have many seafood options, large and small, to pick from - fish, crab, shrimp, crawfish - all excellent. If you are allergic to seafood they serve good steaks too. Adult beverages are excellent as well.
If you are looking for a hip, modern, trendy place to go, this is probably not the place for you. This is definitely the place to go if you are looking for excellently prepared South Louisiana seafood.
I have visited Poor Boy's Riverside Inn a few times even in it's old location on the river on Pinhook Rd, so this was not my first visit. However, it may be a long time until my next one. Unfortunately, I was quite underwhelmed with my meal this evening. I invited my uncle to dinner with my family, and this seemed like a safe bet since he is also a long time resident of Lafayette.
My safe bet was the Half and Half Shrimp, and he ordered a bowl of Seafood Gumbo. A lot has been said lately about presentation, but I'm of the mind that if the food is good enough it can overcome a mediocre presentation. Sadly, this was not the case on this occasion.
My first glance at Uncle Pat's bowl made me gasp. I actually thought someone had spilled the gumbo because the entire side of the bowl was a mess. There was definitely a lack of pride in the kitchen staff to let something like this into the dining room. Of course, it could have been our server, but when I saw my plate I realized that no one cared how our dishes looked.
My plate looked as if the fried shrimp and étouffée had been dumped there. The dish was unattractive, nevertheless I was famished. Nothing remarkable or memorable about either shrimp dish. Even at a lesser seafood restaurant I am served cocktail sauce and/or tartar sauce. Neither was offered. Yes, I could have asked, by why should I? For a twenty dollar dish, there are expectations, and very few were met.
I've always considered Riverside a quality restaurant - one of stature with a rich tradition. It's one of the "Old Guard." There is a bar set for this caliber of restaurants in the Lafayette area, and I am quite saddened to see Riverside not meet it.
There are entirely too many great eateries in Acadiana to tolerate a mediocre meal at that price point.
I am hoping this was a bad night and not indicative or their standard fare. They do deserve another chance, and I am willing to give them one. But not just now.
Don't have a clue what all the hoop is about at this place.... Maybe I've missed it. Food was adequate at best, and service was average. Place looks like a forgotten place that has to have special meaning to local folks. People rave about it, but I just can't figure it out.
As usual, we enjoyed a wonderful meal at Riverside Inn. Our server Alexie was kept very busy. We had lots of questions and requests and she prompt and courteous throughout. The oyster were big, cold and salty, my oyster dinner was more than I could finish and my wife's Riverside fish was perfect. Add a great bottle of wine and we were stuffed and happy. We always enjoy Riverside Inn and will return.
Although highly rated on Open Table, this meal was very poor. Our server was trying her best but was over-taxed with too many tables. Oysters Rockefeller were tasteless, and my oyster poorboy came cold. When I let the server know she took it back and returned with the same sandwich that had been nuked - something no self-respecting seafood fryer would ever do. Should have started with a new batch of freshly fried oysters. To their credit, my meal was comped but still a big disappointment.
