Pomona Valley Mining Company Ratings and Reviews
This was a great surprise. We live in the Pasadena area and was looking for a nice new brunch spot. What a gem of a place. The views are nice, the service impeccable (Nick was our waiter) the food fantastic and the price incredibly reasonable given the great spread of food. I highly recommend this place to anyone who enjoys a buffet style brunch. We will definitely be back because PVMC is now one of our permanent go to spots for brunch.
Been to the orange county mining company many times and while its not as busy and abit nicer layout, the food is just average at best. This was my first trip to the Pomona valley mining company and while the layout was abit more cramped feeling and more crowed, the food was by far the best of the two! Great food, the prime rib was a huge hunk of meat the baby back ribs, the meat just fell off the bone. Outstanding!
We arrived a little early but were seated at reserved time . The waiter was friendly and knowledgeable. The food was brought as we ordered and was delicious and the bread was very good too. The salad bar did not have the variety of some other salad bars but we took was fresh. Looking forward to visiting again for a meal
Sylvia and her helpers provided us with excellent service. A few improvements could bring back your customer base: steam clean or replace the carpeting, fix the noisy cooler in the plate holder chest, upgrade the quality of the salad bar by emphasizing freshness over quantity, and offer special deals for seniors.
Great selection and plenty to eat. I don't care for the food being in different rooms but its ok because I can make room for the food as I walk around. Coffee isn't included in brunch buffet wjich was a bit disappointing since brunch is a bit pricey. However the price for brunch does include champagne. Service was good our waiter was friendly and fast. Overall I will be back, I love the selection and I love buffets.
I relied on the online reservation with my note stating "special birthday occasion " for my wife. When the waitress brought our bill, I had to tell her it was my wife's birthday, and was trying to keep that a surprise for the end of our meal, but she said no one told her ahead of time. She immediately came out with a birthday candle in a dish of ice cream, but my wife had already left the table. Now im in trouble! The 6 of us had a nice meal.
Was very convenient on computer to make reservations also received a follow up email for reservation to conform. They sat us on time the table was by a window that was a plus. The waiter was very help and made sure we had everything we need. I would go back.
Been visiting for years, but we hadn't been there in over a year. Still the same & just a nice casual environment for visiting with friends or a celebration. Of course the view is fabulous. If you compare the prices with other $$$ restaurants the value is good you get a bunch of cheese bread & best of all the salad & soup bar's included in the meal. A number of similar restaurants have eliminated their salad bar totally (Cask & Cleaver & Royal Cut although we still really like Royal Cut quality cuts of meats) We had the filet & now you have choices of 2 toppings which is new(we had mushrooms & bacon). Cooked perfectly for us med/rare. Waitress was attentive & we stayed for over 3 hours visiting & were not rushed by staff to leave. The only issue was the mud pie crust was very hard, but otherwise everything was really good.
This was my first experience at the restaurant. There was a VERY loud birthday group seated at 3 booths. It was distracting for the guest and the servers were challenged in getting all the guests in the party accommodated.
The servers were a delight all evening. Although it appeared the evening was understaffed, at least in our section. We waited too long for our beverages, bread (which arrived cool, almost cold) and dessert. Although, having the servers help one another was helpful.
I ordered the veggie plate with portabella mushrooms. I was expecting a large portion of mushroom(s) and a nice variety of vegetables, instead I received two 2 inch mushrooms with a selection of green beans, carrots, yellow and zucchini squash. When given the option of sides, a baked potato wasn't given although there were a lot coming out of the kitchen on plates. Even if it was an up charge item, it should have been verbally made an option. While I realize you need to make a profit, it doesn't need to be off the wallets of those of us who choose attempt to eat more healthfully. There was no value for my dollar with my meal.
The salad bar was great!! Thoroughly enjoyed it. Again, $18 for a salad bar option was ridiculous. I would like to have seen an option for the Salad Bar and a Baked Potato.
All in all only a Good experience. Would I go again??? I'm not sure. I'll keep checking the menu online. If prices and choices change...perhaps.
We arrived at 6 for our reservations and were immediately see today. The best time to go is around at 6 because soon after people started coming in. We had Michael as a waiter and he was awesome. I ordered the prime rib and ordered the end cut. Not all places have the end cut but Pomona Valley Mining did. It was seasoned perfect and for the price it was a great deal. We sat next to the window and although we have a view of Pomona, It still looked nice from our window seats. The salad bar is pretty neat they have a variety of vegetables and soups. They have tin plates that look like pie trays. They keep your salad cool. Everyone was super nice and presentable. Although this is more of a casual dress restaurant, it's great for a special occasion. I haven't been here for a while, but it's still the same feel. I like it.
What a neat decor and view is spectacular. The good news ends there. The steaks were average but the side dishes were almost inedible.
From the rude hostess to the highly ineffective wait staff and bartender, the service was atrocious. Waitresses cannot get a coke refill themselves. 3 staff explained, every drink must be obtained via the bar. Due to a few tables of 8-10 people and one bartender, we waited 45 for one coke refill. Second glass of wine for wife never arrived.
50% of the steaks in our order were undercooked. Waitress never checked on us after meal service until nearly ready to leave. In fact, we had to walk up front to hostess to get the check.
Bar lounge was filthy and unkempt. It has such huge potential but looks nothing like the booming place it once was, years ago.
Manager was so busy doing so many other peoples' jobs he fails to realize how poorly the place is actually running.
Parking lot was nearly empty at 7:30pm. It used to be overflowing. I can see why it's dead here now, yet still the hostess claims 45 min wait.
Such a shame to see this place going under. It has such great potential.
Hostess seated parties that came after us. We had a reservation and waited half an hour as people were getting seated. We asked why and you can tell we were over looked. The bus boy was more attentive to us than our waitress was. We were there for a birthday and let our waitress know twice. She didn't bother and at the end of dinner brought us our check. It was very disappointing. While we waited at the bar I asked the bartender for some suggestions and instead got a lecture on how sweet drinks give you headaches and never got a suggestion. After giving us the drinks he never came to ask if we needed anything else. We couldn't even get his attention. Only 3 other people at the bar.
