Polpo Ratings and Reviews
Horrible service and experience. Celebrating my birthday which they knew. They kept us waiting at the bar for over 30 minuets. When finally at the table I asked the waiter specifically what vegetables the entire comes with and he said none, you need to order a side dish (another $13 appx) when the food came there was a medley of veggies so we didn’t need the side dish.
Very pricey, poor service.
Not impressed after hearing great things over the years.
Third time trying this restaurant. First, sat a bit after 10pm for an 8:30pm reservation. Food was good and service fine when finally seated. Second, 5:30pm, service was excellent, but "angry lobster" was bland and boring. Third, was Christmas night at 6:30pm. Food was atrocious! I had chicken that was tepid, dried out, and covered in oil. Probably sat in a chafing dish prepped for hours. My wife had swordfish that was thin and rubbery. My daughter got a stomach ache. Yes, it was a holiday, but for almost $100 per person, if the second string can't produce edible food, close the restaurant. Sorry I didn't photograph the swill I was served. FYI, it was Christmas, so I let it go, tipped well, sucked it up, and just won't go back. But I feel compelled to warn others of extreme inconsistency, over three tries, amounting to expensive slop.
While the food, as always, was delicious, having to sit upstairs (having asked for a table downstairs - of which there were a few empty) began a series of less than acceptable service issues. When ordering roast chicken (a favorite - which we’ve ordered in the past) we were told it would take 45 minutes. No such mention on the menu - or ever before when we ordered it. When our guest mentioned he was allergic to dairy the waiter appeared inconvenienced that he had to find out which sauces were prepared with dairy. They were sold out of the wine we ordered and offered us a replacement which was slightly more expensive and they declined to match the other price. Enough little disappointments that we might not be rushing back.
Made us wait almost 45 mins for our table then forgot about ya after we finished dinner. We would’ve all ordered dessert & after dinner drinks but I.T was 11:30 & we were tired! Maybe if they paid attention to us and cleared our plates @ 10:30 they would’ve sold us on dessert. It’s a shame bc the music & good are always a hit. I️ think next Xmas we will try somewhere else that values patronage rather than polpo sadly
The food was excellent. The decor is still fairly nice. The service is a little spotty, though not for lack of effort. It was much better than a Saturday night dinner I had a few years ago when they brought our entrees while we were still eating our appetizers and they simply pushed our appetizers out of the way. Maybe it’s changed ownership.
Being new to the neighborhood we stumbled upon Polpo before realizing how popular this Greenwich restaurant is. The two times we have been there, the staff couldn't have been nicer and both times we chatted with the owner who is a class act. The atmosphere is warm and fun with a great piano bar and other musical entertainment. The other night France Joli (Canadian singer, best known for the disco classic "Come to Me") paid a surprise visit to the restaurant which was a lot of fun. The food is amazing and we are thrilled to be able to walk across the street to hang at Polpo!
What a wonderful restaurant! I give Polpo Five Stars * Ron Rosa, the owner, has done a great job in creating an old world feeling at Polpo with equally great food! Being a restauranteur in Philadelphia, I know how challenging it can be to be consistent and Ron exceeded my expectations not only with his food but also with his staff's service and attention to detail. I wouldn't think twice about going back and plan to do just that again soon. Thanks for a wonderful meal and interesting conversation. The food is very good, although expensive, at Polpo. I have written positive reviews in the past about Polpo but this review is about something else.
Upstairs there is a flat screen tv which this night, was flashing black and white scenes of vintage movies. I don't get it. I find the flashing screen VERY annoying. This is not a bar- whose looking at a tv screen when you're socializing with friends? One time we sat at the table immediately under the tv and we asked them to turn it off, which they did. At that time a sporting event was on. No one in the room was watching and if you sat under the tv, the screen was flashing directly in your eyes.
I understand that perhaps the tv is there for private parties to show personal videos or pictures. But if I have to sit upstairs for dinner, I would prefer that the tv be turned off.
My wife and I were VERY disappointed. This was intended to be a special birthday dinner for my wife. The disappointing experience began when the hostess showed us to the table. Rather than sitting us downstairs in the main dining room they sat us upstairs. It was so noisy that even if you yelled you could not hear the other person. The table was in the middle of a walkway. We requested a different table and the hostess told us that this was the table they had for us and it would be an hour's wait for another table. Incredibly bad attitude. I told them that it was my wife's birthday when the reservation was made. When they called me to confirm the dinner I reminded them it was my wife's birthday. I even called an hour before we got there to remind them that it was my wife's birthday and I wanted them to give her a little piece of cake with a candle when the meal was over. They did not do anything for my wife. I saw a couple of other tables get birthday cakes with candles, but not my wife. I have eaten at Polpo before and I thought it was very good. I had not been there on a Saturday night before. I will never go there on a Saturday night again. Bottom line, I am very disappointed. When I told the host on the way out that they had forgotten they asked me if we wanted a drink. It was nearly 10pm and we were on our way out so I told them no ... too little too late. I am sorry to write such a negative review but the experience was terrible and disappointing.
The food is fantastic, the attention and the service too. The restaurant is on the expensive side (i.e. > $70 per guest, with one glass of wine each). The pasta is great as well as the menu of the day.
The valet parking is nice, $4-$5 suggested tip. It gets really crowded despite how expensive is.
We started out at the bar and were welcomed by the friendly bartenders. The drinks were made perfectly. We sat in the upstairs dinning area at a nice table and the service was very attentive.
The food was very tasty and satisfying. I started with the grilled octopus since i figured since it’s named after it. For me it was just ok. It was not as grilled with the char marks, however It was tender. The flavor was nice though. The pasta was fresh.
I love this place. There are about 7 tables in the bar area where there is a piano player. It was so much fun that everyone was up from their tables and just dancing wherever you could. The menu is great. The food and service was excellent. The people that work there are great. I was there for over 4 hours! I can't wait to go back.
We just loved our quiet Sunday dinner at Polpo. Loved the live piano music, the table in the bar and the delicious food. Our pastas were perfect. wish you were not showing NFL football though as they are so disrespectful to our country, our flag and our troops.
