We haven't been here in a long time. First time we sat upstairs and it is a very undesirable dining room. It's a dated space with no personality. Every customer who was brought up did not want to sit upstairs but downstairs was booked. There was a keyboard player, circa 1970, that made the atmosphere even worst and did not help at all. The head waiter was very loud and kept reprimanding the busboy/backwaiter. In general, the staff is brusque and gruff. The food was Ok. We did not have dessert.
This place is really good, a little noise at the bar, but has music , vibrant ambiance, always crowded. Food is very good. And also service. They have music only weekend. We had sea bass excellent and carbonara too. Good wine list. People are very gentle at the door.
Piano player Rick Salucci is fantastic, we sat in the bar room area and he had the place singing along. The service and food is the best!
Never disappoints! Ambiance. Service. Food. Hospitality. All the best.
Calamari was rubber. My cranberry and seltzer was flat and watered down. The bread pudding was terrible. Our pasta dinners were good but they switched our orders and put cheese on the wrong one and so it was my birthday and by the time mine came out I was eating alone. The Restarant has an attitude like the really don’t want you there. It is like that commercial that is just “ok” but guess what at these prices being treated poorly and so-so food is not “ok”.
Great ambiance, great bar. Price wise, somewhere between $$ and $$. We thought some dishes overpriced as well as the cocktails . We considered cocktails high for the not top shelf liquor we had ordered. The food was well prepared. But, a pleasant experience and we do plan to return.
Saturday night is like a zoo at this restaurant. Very crowded, lots of tumult, management running around trying to make people happy with table locations, etc. So take the review with a grain of salt considering that it was Saturday night. That said, Polpo has always been fun and more special than the average Italian restaurant. Their Zuppa de Pesce is fabulous but they don't offer it on Saturday nights because of the crowd. Apparently it takes more time and care - which is likely why my review is mixed. I ordered a wedge salad that is about as standard as they come for a restaurant. When you're getting $14 or $15 for a hunk of iceberg, you have a right to expect it to be hefty and special. It was neither. My wife's sea bass was good but not exceptional. My carbonara was a soupy cheesy mess of unremarkable flavor and overcooked pasta. I left most of it. For dessert I ordered apple pie a la mode. I received an overcooked apple danish - or that's what it seemed like. 95% roll, 5% apple. No pie, no pie crust. How they call that apple pie a la mode, I have no idea. I sent it back. Nice people but apparently Polpo is getting a little long in the tooth. I was excited to come back here but it will be a while before I try again.
This flood is absolutely delicious but if you want a good table you have to give the maitre D a big tip!
My husband and I enjoyed the vibe at Polpi! There was a piano player in the bar and it was fun atmostphere. The food was delicious and we will definitely be adding this place to our list of go-to restauraunts!
While my food was good, my husbands steak was not cooked the way he asked. There were aec
Sat right by the piano. Was awesome.
Table wasn’t ready, we waited 45 minutes! They then told us our table was ready then gave it to someone else as we were walking to the table. After a discussion with the Maître d’ and him yelling at me we walked out!
Calamari was either old or over cooked, couldn’t eat it. Was like rubber. Pasta dish was good. Waiter said lobster ravioli had lobster in them when it was just a cheese ravioli with lobster meat scattered in lobster bisque sauce. Maybe it’s cause it was Valentine’s Day and busy but still no excuse. Desert was meh, bread pudding had tons of nuts In it and was cold on the inside. Price was a lot for what we got.
Our new favorite. Everything about it was perfect. Music, food, service.
The restaurant is homey and pretty, we were seated right away, the service was fabulous and the food was DELICIOUS! I had veal, my husband had chicken and mussels and they were all awesome!
I would have given 5 stars as usual, however, the service was lacking on this night. We were there early. No excuses.
A true Italian steakhouse with lots of vibe. Food excellent and prompt service
Quiet, service attentive but not rushed. Food is always great!
Always great food and great service.
Way too noisy - I could barely hear my dinner companion.
We went there to celebrate my bday with a few couples. The food was amazing. We had a great night.
Love love love this place
We came on Christmas Night and the place was packed but the wait staff was great. The veal and fish dishes were amazing. After we had dessert, the wait staff didn't check in on us for 20 minutes to see if we wanted anything else or to present the check. Then once they finally came over to acknowledge us, it took another 15 minutes to pay the check. So this soured our lovely dining experience but we got over it because it was Christmas Night and we were grateful to have such a fine evening. So my advice to management-make sure the check comes to the table right away. No one wants to wait for the check or to sign the credit card receipt!
TERRIBLE experience for Christmas dinner no less. We came dressed well and were unfortunately seated next to an entitled family dressed in Pokemon sweatshirts with three kids screaming and running around restaurant. Waiter spilled water in our laps. Food mediocre at best. Service terrible. Loud music. Lights too bright. Just an awful experience. Avoid. Don’t buy into the reviews. No way are they true. This is our third time here. We are DONE.
Had to wait 30 minutes for our reservation.
Had the Lobster Bisque and the Rabbit, both were delicious.
Nice athmosphere and attentive service.
Love to visit during Christmas time.
Good food / selection. They take pride in their food and it shows. Went on Christmas Day and they had a lot of large tables which were very noisy. Valet parking is great
Had a wonderful time, food is always excellent. Our server seemed very stressed and upset when my grandmother did not get up fast enough for him to reach additional wine glasses from a nook behind her. He later yelled at his colleagues that he needed more glasses now! Other than that... I love it there ha.
Service was atrocious for the caliber of a restaurant as Polpo. Waited 20 minutes for a cocktail, had to ask for menus. Ordered a bottle of wine before our food and waited for at least 15 minutes with our appetizer in front of us before we had to say we weren’t going to start eating until we had our red wine. Ordered two desserts and two Ports and the Ports were never brought to us. Food was mediocre and presentation poor. The Dole Sole at $65 which used to be a favorite was thin, over sauced, and served merely warm at best. Polpo is certainly resting on its laurels of years past and we will never return.
Food was very good. Wait staff was fine, however this is the second time I have been to Polpo for dinner and the waiters rush you through dinner. After dessert was served they turned off the heat in the room we were dining in.
The food was delicious and the service was great. I would highly recommend the restaurant to anyone who enjoys great food and great atmosphere.
I don’t mind spending the money if the food is good-we frequent at restaurants all over Greenwich. This restaurant had one enjoyable dish out of our $420 bill-that was the penne vodka-don’t order the steak there-overpriced and mediocre at best.
This place caters to regulars-tuna carpaccio was tasteless-chicken martini was dry..$500 with tip-only Thing we liked was the service.
From the moment we pulled into the parking lot and an attendant met us with an umbrella, I knew this was a great find. Seated at a perfect corner table and immediate yet respectful service added to a nice evening. We ordered only specials and they were served hot and not rushed but in good time. Will definitely return again!
2 younger couples and they sat us upstairs with older people vs downstairs where it was a bit more lively and upbeat.
Love the restaurant. Fun is and service always amazing. Would have preferred to sit downstairs.
We had dinner in the bar area. Always enjoyable with good tunes and great food
Excellent food, attentive service, great ambiance in bar area. Piano bar was a great touch.
We went later than usual for our meal. No one staffer smiled at us. My burger, which i'd asked to have cooked medium well, was so well done it could have been a hockey puck. But we were eager to get back to the office so i didn't complain. my guests liked it.
I know they prefer their regulars there but all in all it was just okay.
Excellent food, service, atmosphere. Great presentation. Took friends from Manhattan who eat out frequently but were not familiar with Polpo. They loved it!
The truffle pasta meal wasn’t cooked in butter or high quality oil. The taste wasn’t up to the price charged. The other meal was fine. Service and ambiance were great as usual.
