Poggio Ratings and Reviews
Wonderful restaurant! The crudi and carpaccio were exquisitely prepared and delicious. The Caesar salad was good and garlicky and served with white anchovies (my favourite) The carbonara was the best I have had in any restaurant and the Sole was sweet and tender. One of our favourite places to dine when we are in San Francisco
Yum! This was a return visit for us. We loved our late lunch at Poggio! Two of us shared lots of small plates and salad and one large pasta. Everything was delicious. One great taste treat after another: Grilled calamari, amazing mushroom custard, beet salad and grilled cauliflower ending up with a large creamy carbonara. Desserts sounded great but neither of us had room to try them.
We won't wait so long to return--really excellent meal with a professional courteous waiter made a memorable birthday experience
I have dined at this wonderful restaurant on numerous occasions, different groups of friends for lunch or dinner. Both food and service are excellent. They have never disappoint me or my group ! Fun vibrant place downtown Sausalito enjoyed by locals and tourists all over!
On the main street in Sausalito. Valet parking, but also street parking. Outdoor tables for sitting with your pup. Excellent meal, Bucatini, pasta was full of pancetta and fresh peas. Roasted calamari and roasted brussel sprouts, both sides, but plenty for meal and to share.
Panna Cotta for dessert made for the perfect finish. Take a walk along the Bay after your meal.
We had an early lunch. The waitperson was excellent. The menu has lots of choices. All 5 of us decided to have pasta. Each of us had a different pasta and everyone enjoyed what they chose. I had the butternut ravioli with brown butter and sage, it was excellent.
We have been there several times and will definitely go back again
We live in Sausalito, so we stroll from home along the waterfront and pretend that we are spending the evening in Italy by dining at Poggio. The Tuesday night $35 prix fixes dinners are amazing ; 5 small plate appetizers included various combinations of fresh greens or vegetables with a variety of additions like succulent, smokey calamari, tender bits of crudo, ricotta salata, various nuts and amazing flavors. Our entree was porchetta and beans. Okay, I had a little trepidation about having pork and beans. However, it was perfect as a shared dish. The pork included generous portions of spit-roasted thin chop slices along with bits of crispy skin. The sauce on the beans made the idea of turning vegetarian appealing. Dessert: a cloud like meyer lemon mouse topped by chunky pieces of meringue that complemented the mousse perfectly. Plus, the service was perfectly timed and flawless. Heaven!
I have to say I’ve had better food and service at Olive Garden! We started out with the Gemlettuce which was great. It’s basically a simple Caesar salad. The disappointment was the 2 entree’s we ordered.. I had the Cilhitarra my wife ordered the Francobolli... Both were not at all what you would expect. My dish was a lobster based pasta with a Dungeness crab in a cream sauce. Sounds yummy but the noodles were gummy and dry, very little crab and no cream. The Francobolli was supposed to be a cheese filled ravioli with butternut squash.. what we were served was a dry gummy ravioli with 3 pieces of butternut squash the size of the carrots that come out of a peas and carrots can...then the service . Don’t expect much... We sat for 30 minutes without a refill..
Chose this just from the Open Table option. Went for lunch on a Saturday and sat outside. There are heaters out there, but the weather was great so even if they weren't there it would have been pleasant. Sitting outside is great for people/puppy watching since people are going by constantly along with cyclists (not an issue). The food was absolutely divine. Small portions are small - and to me just the right size. Listen to the server if they suggest something in addition to what you ordered. I ordered a small plate pasta (short rib ravioli) and the carpaccio. Wish I could go back, but don't even live in the state let alone the area. If I lived there, I would be a regular.
Four of us dining; I had branzino (sea bass) which was tasty but overcooked, the best part was watching the waiter de-bone it. Others had the chicken under brick (good) quail (also good) and a pasta dish (maybe the best of the lot). It is an Italian place after all. I have dined there before and food is usually good but not great - love the decor and location. Service was excellent.
The food was very good. All four us us had different dishes, we all sampled, all enjoyed thoroughly. But for quality of food, the service does not match in professionalism. Plates put down haphazardly, took over 10 min to flag down waitstaff to place drinks order, then a long wait for arrival. Never once during service did anyone check back to see if anything further needed or glance at table to remove empty glasses, we were given dessert menu while still eating main course. Not professional at all and really put us off meal even though food was very good.
Stopped in for a visit in Sausalito and had lunch. Love duck so I ordered the duck leg confit salad. It was amazing. The duck fell off the bone, the salad was fresh and a perfect mix with the duck. My second course was the gnudi. No complaints here. The spinach ricotta pillows were light and fluffy. The beef ragu was tender and tasty.
I live in Sausalito and have been going to Poggio's for ages. I can go watch a soccer match with bartender Tony, have breakfast, or as this past Friday, celebrate my wife's birthday.
The server was fantastic and assisted on finding a moderately priced Borola that was excellent. His comments on dinner drove us to two incredible dishes. Don't know his name but he was from Belarus and fantastic!
The only glaring problem was the hostess. Dirt is treated better in my house. Don't know her name, but a large lady with manners of a pet rock. Will keep coming back, but if I see that woman, I may just leave; almost did - for my wife's birthday!
First time to experience their Tuesday Family Night January special set meal. What a treat! The two of us started with five plates of starters--cauliflower, broccolini, grilled squid, spinach/beet and goat cheese salad, smoked salmon. Then the perfectly cooked short ribs on mashed potatoes arrived. They were excellent. We ended with a shared panna cotta. Super meal. Can't wait for next years edition. Of course, we'll be back before then.
