Delightful Sunday early evening, pre-concert dinner. Easy access to the city makes this a great alternative to city dining for the people on this side of the bridge. The relaxed atmosphere combined with a table beside an open window made it feel like al fresco dining, but without the chill was in the air. My friend and I shared a salad and each had our own portion of homemade pasta. The food is absolutely fresh, inventive in its mix of ingredients, and just delicious. Both mixed drinks and wine were perfect, as was the service. I'd return in a heartbeat.

We’ve enjoyed Poggio many times and chose it for a combined birthday lunch with friends on a recent Saturday (party of 4). When we arrived for our 1 pm reservation, the patio and bar were lively and the dining room, where we were seated, was beginning to fill. Although were greeted by a hostess was expressionless and silently took us to our table, we were feeling festive and anticipated having a great time. Things went downhill quickly. When our server finally made an appearance, he acted like he had somewhere else to be and rushed us to order. Our drink order arrived in stages, and we wondered if our bread basket with 3 slices of stale bread was left over from another table. An order of roasted cauliflower was charred and black, and the spinach with lemon was watery. However, our entrees (risotto, pizza, rigatoni and gnudi) were very good. Sadly, we were distracted from our celebration by extremely slow, inattentive and sloppy service. (When a sauce was spilled on one friend’s lap as a dish was cleared, the response was an over-the-shoulder “Sorry about that, folks.”) While we wanted to have a leisurely lunch, we hadn’t expected to be there for over 2 ½ hours before giving up on a birthday dessert. When it was clear that our server was not coming back, we surrendered and went in search of someone to bring us our check. (A party of 5 across from us was frustrated by their missing server as well as they waited for their check.) When the folio arrived, it was just a drive-by as someone dropped it on the table and moved on. When we left, I crossed paths with a manager?/maître d’? and took advantage of the moment to ask if there had been a problem that afternoon. I was met with a roll of the eyes and “No, it’s just a very busy day.” I explained that we had been there several times but noticed that something seemed “off." Again, the response was an over-the-shoulder “Sorry about that” as he rushed away.

I think we're done with Poggio. Sorry about that!

I returned to Poggio after several years away from Sausalito. Havinf recently returned, I was genuinely looking forward to dining at the restaurant where I have already enjoyed countless meals. Thankfully, the food is the same excellent standard. Everyone in my party, agreed that the food is wonderfully authentic and creative. However, the service was atrocious. When I arrived early for my reservation, the hostess informed me, not in a particularly welcoming way, that I certainly was early with the clear implication that I go away and come back later. At the table, when I returned after being sent away my party had been seated. When the waiter finally showed up, he totally ingnored that I was an addition to the party and launched into taking food orders without acknowledging I had just arrived and I had to ask if I could have something to drink. Orerall, the service was extremely impersonal and unwelcoming with the hostess setting the tone. For a restuarant I have always loved dearly and was proud to take poeple to, this was a serious disappointment.

The restaurant is always a treat. Very lively and sparkling and fun. The menu is excellent with a variety of delicious choices. The service has always been attentive without being fussy except for Sunday evening. We were four older women and felt we were possibly ignored by our server for that reason. I was treating my friends to a special dinner and was embarrassed by the service.

We enjoyed our meal but the server was awful, I had to stop and ask him for coffee and our dessert because he never came back after we got desert menus. He was truly not available the entire meal and the restaurant was not full.

Love Poggio!! It was my husband’s birthday and they took such good care of us. Very attentive, efficient and friendly. Loved every minute of our experience: from meeting the host & hostess to our great waiter and his assistants, to the fine leather booth and food. Romantic and delicious!!!

My wife and I have being dining at Poggio for years. The food is always well prepared and plated. This is a very nice place to dine for good food, knowledgeable servers, and good value.

Lovely server .
Cauliflower was drowned in a spicy sriracha paste which left the dish inedible but our server happily changed it for us. The Rib eye is served off the bone & not as special as one would assume so be aware .
Food on the whole is always good as well as desserts .

Food was outstanding. Every dish was delicious and above average in quality and taste. Cozy and romantic ambiance that was friendly and not snobby at all. Overall, I would highly recommend dining here if you’re in the area.

We had to wait for almost an hour to get our main course after ordering. Our waiter was terrible. He took 15 minutes to get us a menu but no drink menu. I had to go to the bar to get a drink menu and then had to wait an additional ten minutes for the waiter to bring our drink. I had to take a table service from another table in order to accommodate our group. I order to get away in a timely manner I asked for the bill as we were served our main course and it still took ten minutes to get the bill.

Martini and Manhattan were OK. Not spectacular. Meatballs as an appetizer were tasty but when 2 people are sharing there should be 4 not 3 on the plate. Gem salad was tasty, lettuce
seemed a bit "mature" for gem lettuce. Pork chop was DELICIOUS, generous size and cooked
properly. The whole petrale was excellent and our server did a great job deboning it. The chocolate budino for dessert was one of the best ever tasted. We really enjoy this restaurant
for its ambience which gives one the feeling of "dining out" as opposed to going out to dinner.
The decor is special rather than having the "casual cafeteria" style so prevalent today. We
will continue to frequent this restaurant even though it is a way out of our neighborhood.
Almost forgot, the arugula salad with sliced apples and mashed potatoes that accompanied the pork chop were a great addition to the plate.

I love Poggio! The only reason I am removing a star is because there was some construction scaffolding all along the outside al fresco dining, so the ambiance was knocked down a notch because we usually like to enjoy the beautiful scenery outside there. But otherwise the food and service were amazing as usual!

Probably the best designed restaurant in Marin County. That means lighting, acoustics, seating, variety of seating, all in comfortable circumstances. The hostess of many years and the chef have wisely been made partners in this restaurant, thus ensuring a high level of participation on an ongoing basis. Larry Mindel knows how to run a restaurant.
The food is always impeccably prepared, nothing to worry about on that front. And their specials are truly creative and worth experimenting with.

We started with the mushroom soup which was outstanding. The pappardelle with ox tail was also very good. My dinner mate had the pork chops. The were nicely done, served at the proper temperature and very moist and flavorful. I had the grilled quail. This was also nicely prepared, retaining the sweet flavor of the bird. So food-wise I would give Poggio 5 starts. However, the service left much to be desired. A table captain asked us about our drinks just after we sat at the table but before we had been offered any drink menus. The server was "tourist friendly". While many tables around us saw their server and captain several time during the meal, ours only came by when taking our order and asking if we wanted desert. It struck me as they were taking very good care of local customers but not providing the same serving details to visiting clientele. I would go back for the food but be prepared for mediocre service.

Love Poggio. Wonderful, authentic Italian food in a nice, upscale casual setting, with very good service. We have been here many times, and will definitely return. Unfortunately, on our last visit, our table of 6 and several other adjacent tables of 2 and 4, were overwhelmed by a huge table of 16 or so. This large party for some reason was accommodated in the general seating area rather than in a private room, and we've never seen this enormous table set up before. The result was a noise level which made it difficult for anyone else nearby to enjoy their food, and rendered all conversation impossible. The noise level became worse as more wine was consumed. We declined dessert and espresso because we simply could not enjoy ourselves. We were happy to share the typically great Poggio food with our 4 friends from London, but sorry we were not able to enjoy the total experience. As I say, we will return, but we will be careful to position ourselves a little more defensively in future.

A delicious meal and a romantic atmosphere for a date. Service was attentive. Prices were very reasonable especially considering the quality of the food. My wife and I started with the mele salad/- which was well balanced and tasty with goat cheese, pickled onion, apples, candied nuts and arugula. I ordered the seafood risotto for my entree and the seafood was perfectly cooked and the dish was well seasoned. My wife ordered the bucatini carbonara. It was also simply delicious. I couldn’t keep my fork out of her plate. We split the budino for dessert and enjoyed the rich chocolate flavor and creamy texture. We would highly recommend Poggio for a special night out.

One of our greatest Italian food experiences in Marin. Homemade classics with an updated twist. Our waiter was excellent and let us sample several wines before choosing. They offer half carafes in addition to glass and bottle so tons of options. Porcini mushroom custard was so good it was like dessert. The Tony Negroni was the perfect aperitif to get things going. Very reasonable prices and great ambience.

After many years of dining at Poggio I now find the food incredibly bland. I had a Ceasar salad which had no taste. Carpaccio which was good. As an entree I had Lamb Shank which was bland and fatty. Very disappointing.
