Philadelphia restaurant impresario Stephen Starr's retro-modern offering, located in the town's "University City" neighborhood, lets its guests sip sake, beer, and colored cocktails while munching on fresh sushi, dim sum, and Pan-Asian entrees. The hip, contemporary, "starship-like" space was conceptualized by famed Manhattan designer David Rockwell and influenced by the films "Sleeper" and "2001: A Space Odyssey."

Pod Ratings and Reviews
Hostess was not very pleasant when sitting us to our table. I remembered really enjoying the calamari salad last time I ate here but it was not as good as I remembered this Time around. The shrimp tempura roll was dry. The crab fried rice was yummy, although we were too full by the time this arrived last to the table. Not sure we’d return here as I’ve had better sushi experiences at non-fancy restaurants.
We like Starr restaurants, not only for the "family style" food delivery and sharing, but particularly because the meals are predictably delicious and served well.
Although it's no longer new, Pod's decor is still fun, and the food is very good. We enjoyed the sushi, as well as the Korean Beef dough rolls (can't recall their specific name, but regardless my memory for proper nouns, I do remember they were flavorful and delicious).
When we reserved the table I notified Pod it was our oldest boy's birthday, and they were nice enough to bring him ice cream with a sparkler at the end of the meal. - brought a smile to a 17 year old's face.
It's not an inexpensive meal, to be sure, but if you know you're going to spend the money on an up-cost meal, it's always reassuring to know the experience is going to be good. We have confidence in Starr's restaurants.
Food is usually good. I am a Penn Professor so I go there a lot. Usually spend about $2,000 per semester. Yesterday one dish was terrible. The Robata grill "pork belly" was hard and super dry. I have had this dish in the past and it was succulent and delicious. Yesterday POD really dropped the ball. They don't usually but it was incredibly bad. Other than that the Calamari salad was very good, as was the swordfish (Robata as well) and the rock shrimp Tempura. Usually POD is super consistent, but yesterday was not as good because of the pork belly. If I was the chef, I would not have sent it out, but they did alas.
Loved our meal. It was a little pricier than other Asian options available in the city but the experience, setting and service definitely made it worth it. We ordered dim sum and small plates and enjoyed everything we ate. I particularly enjoyed the beef cooked table-side!
I really loved my experience at Pod this past weekend. It’s a great restaurant for friends (especially if you’re able to sit in the pod). Our waiter was so personable and so attentive which made the experience even better! The menu offers a lot of opportunities to share as the portions are large. I would reccomend getting a cocktail - the seasonal chai cocktail was AMAZING!
