I have been here before and was very disappointed in the food. I ordered their signature lobster special. The lobster was raw inside when you got to the middle of the tail, also very chewy. My friend ordered the fish special with artichokes and is was smothered in sauce, the entire dish tasted the same and was very bland. I have enjoyed in the past but not this time . I will try once more in case it was an off night, but at their prices they should be consistent with their food. The service was very good - just disappointed in food quality
This is one of the best restaurants in the state. Glad we were able to eat the again before the great restaurant shutdown. I have never had a bad meal or bad service. This time again everything was perfect. Can't wait to go back again.
A group of girlfriends went in the last Saturday restaurants were to be up and serving . We chose this place because of the great reviews and wanted something special under the circumstances. It was not. There was nothing exactly wrong with any of the food although my risotto was bland. It was just that nothing was outstanding. Same with service. The noise level was deafening as well.
Excellent food and service from soup to dessert! Chris, our waitress, was friendly and attentive. She walked us through the specials and offered guidance. We had the mushroom over puffed pastry, asparagus fries, and mushroom soup to start. Each one was delicious! Our main courses were the lobster special with crab cake, lamb shank, & NY steak. Each entree was cooked perfectly, was plentiful, and yummy. We had the bananas foster & gelato for dessert both of which were fabulous. The restaurant gets loud when it's packed but is manageable. Overall we had a terrific first experience at the Poached Pear.
We had a extremely delicious dinner at the Poached Pear. Each dish more beautiful than the next. We thoroughly enjoyed this meal!
Food and service was off the charts good. Three of us had filet mignon, cooked three different ways and each was done perfectly. Crab cake appetizer was amazing. Love how the entrees came with appropriate sides.
Best pork chop I've ever eaten. I had it twice now. The crab cake is top-notch. The food is worth the money.
Was very nice. A little pricey. But worth it.
Love this restaurant! Celebrating a birthday with 3 generations present, all 6 loved their meals.
Great menu, great food, great service. Make a reservation.
Delicious food! Fun evening
The food at the poached Pear is absolutely outstanding! Everyone was thrilled with their meal. They went all out to help us celebrate a birthday! Can’t wait to go back again!
One of our favorite places. Well worth the 30 minute trip. We have had dinner at the Poached Pear many times and have always had a great experience with the quality of the food, the attentive staff and the nice ambience. Always a great dinner and I can’t recommend it highly enough.
The food was excellent and served with little wait. My steak was cooked perfectly, as were my wife's scallops. The service staff was pleasant and attentive to our needs.
70th birthday dinner with friends and family. Everyone enjoyed the dinner. All the meals were superb. We originally booked the reservation for 6 people, but was able to increase the reservation to 8 people after calling. The restaurant was very accommodating. We will definitely be recommending The Poached Pear to all our friends and family.
Had dinner on 2/28/2020. I had DUCK BREAST AND FOIE GRAS (hard as a rock, very difficult to cut..ate 50%, did not finish) and my wife had a fish (Haddock??) special that she said was tasteless (ate 1/3rd). Very unhappy as it was her 81st Birthday Dinner.
This was our 2nd visit in the past week. All was good on previous visit on 2/21. December 25 - Feb 14th traveling, no visits. In no hurry to come back after 2/28 disaster.
Overall the quality was just not there. Prices are high for average food. Very disappointed. Was good last time I was there. And the menu has not changed for years. Won’t be back.
server was so nice
Food was delicious
had the apple brined cowboy porkchop... absolutely the best ever !
Awesome all around, but definitely try the crepe cake!
Wonderful service and delicious dinner. There were so many great menu choices it was hard to choose!
The best food in Central Jersey. Being a food allows to to state this.
Enjoyed a lovely evening celebrating my husband's birthday. I needed to try the poached pear salad (thus the name) and it did not disappoint. The garlic shrimp appetizer was also delicious. Our entrees of Duck and the Poached Lobster/Crabcake special were very good. Glad to enjoy this place off season because I'm sure it is super crowded in the summer months. Highly recommend.
We had a lovely dining experience . The food was absolutely delicious. We had the veal medallions and banana foster for dessert. It was a Wednesday night date night . Will definitely return with friends.
We went for the first time to celebrate Valentine’s Day on the 16th. I had the burrata and we both had the coffee rubbed steak and mushroom risotto. Both were out of this world! I had the flourless chocolate cake and it was equally delicious. My only suggestion if I were to have one would be to dim the lights a bit more. We drove 45 minutes to get here and would do it again and again. BYOB a plus!
Food was outstanding. Had asparagus fries as an appetizer which was novel. We both had fish as a main dish, Corvina and Halibut. Loved both. The Corvina was a special. A bit pricey but worth it. Desserts were great. Had a chocolate mousse cake and crème brulee. Service was impeccable. Would go back any time.
We just love the restaurant, the service has always been good and the food is excellent ! So yummy:)
Went to Poached Pear with a group of friends to celebrate a 70th birthday. My husband and I have been there several times and have never been disappointed. Our four friends were all “first timers”, all thoroughly enjoyed their meals and said they would definitely go back. Great place for a date night, special occasion or friends get together.
Fantastic! First time here and I will be back in 3 weeks. We started with a grilled octopus and calamari appetizer special and burrata. Amazing. My wife had the lobster special. I had the corvina special. Amazing. Flourless chocolate cake and bread pudding were amazing. Service was excellent and presentation of food was great. Must go! Can’t wait until next time!
Excellent overall experience! Our waitress Marge went above and beyond making our first experience there a good one. I forgot my wine and she gave us directions and even held our order until I got back. All of the food was top notch! Definitely will be dining again soon!
We celebrated my daughters birthday and were very happy with the service and food! Everything was prepared with care and was delicious!
The food was outstanding
The ambiance was lively despite it being an early reservation in the middle of winter (at the shore). The server was very attentive and did not rush us even though there was a wait. For appetizers we had the jersey corn bisque, the calamari and a mushroom fricasee special with puff pastry. The bisque was the highlight of the evening. It was perfectly sweet and hit the spot on a cold winter evening.
The calamari was also very good; tender with a light cornmeal coating. The mushroom fricasee lacked much flavor. All appetizer portions were surprisingly large.
For entrees, we had the pistachio encrusted salmon and a mahi mahi special with a beurre blanc-type sauce (I do not recall if the waiter called it a beurre blanc sauce, but it seemed like it was that) with artichokes, a few shrimp and other vegetables (squash and onions among others). Both portions of fish were overcooked and a bit dry . The pearled cous cous with the salmon was bland (although my wife requested that the olives be removed, which may have been the cause for that). The mahi mahi, vegetables and pearled cous cous were drowned in the sauce, which made the dish feel as though it was something from a chain restaurant. Had there been less sauce or maybe a lighter sauce, then maybe I would have enjoyed the dish more, but as I said, the fish was also a bit overcooked.
For dessert, we had the flourless chocolate cake and chocolate mousse crepe cake with cappuccinos. Both cakes, and their accompanying gelatos, were delicious.
Overall, I was disappointed with the food given the reputation of the restaurant. I would try it again to see if perhaps we just picked the wrong dishes (I typically order beef, pork or veal, and I am kicking myself for not doing so here), but it is always difficult to return to a restaurant I didn't enjoy all that much when there are a number I love eating at and even more that I would like to try for a first time.
Great food and service highly recommend this
Like the food and find it innovative at the Poached Pear. This last time was disappointed in the appetizer (wild mushroom fricassee over puff pastry) that sounded great. It was just okay. Had crab cake as main and it was excellent; would order again. For dessert we shared the bread pudding which was probably the best course that night.
My husband and I went here to celebrate our anniversary. The food and service was outstanding. We will be back. Excellent!!
The Poached Pear is a lovely restaurant with excellent food. Our server (I believe his name was Nick) was a very likable, pleasant young man.
Had a terrific meal for each of the four of us. All appetizers and main courses were really good this Saturday evening.
We have been coming to PPB for many years and will continue to frequent this excellent BYO restaurant.
Atmosphere is very nice. Service was excellent. The Poached Pear Salad was excellent. I had the pork chop which was good. A little overcooked but overall good. My husband had the coffee rubbed steak. He also enjoyed it but noted that is seemed to be missing something. For dessert we had the dark chocolate gelato which was excellent.
All I can say is that we were a party of four. We were seated right on time. Since the moment we sat down we had an amazing experience. Starters, entrees and desserts were all presented in a delicate manner and tasted delicious. Wait staff are extremely courteous and professional . We will definitely go back when visiting our friends that live in Point Pleasant.
