Plums Restaurant Ratings and Reviews
Plum's has a great view of the river and is nice when the weather is warm enough to sit outside. The special for the night was a sirloin steak which was pretty good-not great. One of the members of our party is on a very strict diet and the steak arrived smothered in melted butter. Our waiter and the owner could not have been nicer-taking it back to the kitchen and returning with steamed shrimp. The fish tacos and spinach salad were really good, and the service was particularly good since our waiter was new. Good place for oysters and shrimp but not someplace I'd go for a special night out.
We were in town for a Marine Corps graduation. 4 kids 4 adults. Plums was a 4 minute walk from our B&B. The staff was very accommodating of our group of 8. Seafood was good (crab cakes, stuffed flounder, fish tacos) as were the burgers. The view over the water was wonderful and relaxing. Drinks were up quick and and server was great. Excellent value for good food, great service, awesome view at a very reasonable price.
This was our first visit to Beaufort, SC and we were looking for regional cuisine. We found Plums on the waterfront and enjoyed a very good meal. The food portions were generous, the ingredients fresh, the price was reasonable and service was excellent. If you find yourself in downtown Beaufort, check out Plums.
One of three or four local restaurants we ate at during a weekend stay in Beaufort. We enjoyed a great meal, good service, with good ambience and atmosphere. For appetizer, I had raw oysters on the half-shell, which were delicious; my wife enjoyed the peel-and-eat-shrimp. For dinner entrée, my wife and I split the Low Country Boil and the Cornmeal Fried Okra, all of which was good.
Honestly, as good as everything was, the best part of the meal, in my opinion, was the fresh biscuits and butter they brought out in advance of our meals. I could have made a meal out of just that!
We dined as a group of 6 people. None of us liked our food, from the crab dip appetizer to the stuffed flounder to the burgers. What a disappointing restaurant. The restaurant was not very full on the evening we went, but the noise level was off the charts. The waitress was the only good part of the evening as she was helpful and very sweet.
We're new to town, and Plum's was always one of the restaurants we'd heard was very good. It's convenient, I'll give it that. Our first visit was just okay, but on this, this our second visit, the food was just awful. The gin and the salad dressing tasted so thin and watery, and the main courses were tasteless (unseasoned flounder with crabmeat that was suspiciously like a frozen entree I've seen before), gummy (my husband's rigatoni), and looked awful on the plate. If we hear it's changed hands we'll go back but until then, it's off our list. (The service was very friendly and tried hard, but there's only so they could do.
It's a nice little bar/bistro. The chef certainly knows how to cook Thai! The "special"chicken entire ordered by two of us was overdone tough and dry. The raw clams and oysters were a bit too warm for my liking. I prefer them ice cold. I'd go back again but would be a bit more cautious about the "special"
Would have been nice to have a side with your entrée instead of having to purchase one separate. Was a little disappointed with the smashed fried potatoes, it was small whole potatoes that were pan fried. I was expected something different by the description. Would have also been nice to have the side served on the same plate as the entrée. Overall, it was good, only wished they had oysters that night.
We sat outside and loved the breeze and the beautiful views of the waterfront. Our server was great and attentive. I had the peach salad with an added crab cake and it was very good. My husband enjoyed the oysters. Our reservation was at 6:00 and although the restaurant was busy, they seemed able to keep up. By the time we were finished eating however, people did seem to be waiting a little longer than we did as it was much busier for the 7:00 rush. We will go back again on our next visit to Beaufort.
The restaurant is located in the Beaufort waterfront and has a great outdoor seating area and a nicely decorated and modern inside area. We had a great booth and with three kids the restaurant was family friendly but was also suitable for a date night. The staff was extremely friendly and we had an amazing waitress. We are not very picky eaters, but the food left a lot to be desired. My sons cheeseburger was very undercooked in the middle, my husband's shrimp and grits were very heavy (thick like a clump and not much taste) and I ordered the steamed claims which stated they were served with tomatoes and smoked bacon. The claims were very small, which was not the main issue, but the topping of tomatoes and smoked bacon tasted like a can of stewed tomatoes and corn and very little bacon atop of claims. I would try lunch again and anytime we wanted to just have a few drinks on the patio because of the great location, but may think twice about dinner?
We enjoy lunch frequently at Plums and have only had dinner their twice. 3 out of 4 of our meals were basically inedible. Crab stuffed flounder. Crispy fried fish if some type and s shrimp and pasta special. Cajun BBQ shrimp app was all seasoning and barely could taste the shrimp. I certainly hope this was an aberration since there are not many choices in Beaufort and we dine there frequently. Hopefully it was just an off night for the chef.
Stopped in for dinner during brief stay in Beaufort. Arrived prior to 6pm and able to get a nice table on the balcony. The biscuits and pecan spread provided as appetizer was delicious. The fried oysters were scrumptious, as an appetizer and with grits. However, next time will request the gravy on the side instead of in the grits. The Sea Island curry jumbo scallops with the pecan flavored rice and golden raisins was also wonderful.
The was an event going on in the adjacent park in which the music was a little loud. But it didn't take away from the enjoyment of my meal. The waitress was super nice. I would definitely dine here again.
The biscuits and honey butter are to die for! The service is great! Monea was precious! The peach vinegarette salad with salmon was tasty and delicious! The wine selection is good and reasonable. We took my 2 yr old and we sat outside and the view of water was beautiful. We would recommend this to families as well as couples.
Location along the Beaufort waterfront is wonderful. We liked that entrees could be ordered full or half portion. The local, sparrows are very bold, at time trying to share our table with us. Staff was very helpful but not overbearing. There is both indoor and outdoor seating. We choose to sit outside to watch all the walkers and their dogs enjoying a stroll along the riverfront. Food was very good. My husband had Half portion of streamed clams as an appetizer and I had a salad. Both were flavorful and visually appealing. I had their schnitzel and my husband had the curry scallops, half portion. Both portions were very satisfying and delicious. We had not planned on dessert but out waiter suggested the fresh strawberry short cake. Local strawberries and homemade pound cake were perfection. After that we walked to the riverfront for a relaxing swing on the many swings along the park. A very perfect evening.
Our first trip to Beaufort and Plums was recommended to us by a friend. We went on a Thursday evening for dinner and the low country boil was superb!! My husband and I split an order just because we didn't want to be stuffed so late in the day. We were unaware of the sharing charge until we got our bill. It was not featured very prominently on the menu nor were we told about it by our waitress, but that was our fault I suppose for not perusing the menu more carefully. As we discovered, the sharing charge is a "thing" at most downtown restaurants in Beaufort. The location is prime for the scenic waterfront and all in all a very pleasant start to our long weekend.
Service not to par. My nephew gratuated from the marines not one congratulations from any of the crew. Not one smile from the server. We were sat in a booth by check in. Wost seat in the house.I asked to move. We were packed like sardines. We moved outdoors very nice view of the water. But very buggy . Food soso. Price ok
The dinner, service and atmosphere were wonderful. Fresh seafood and wonderful recipes. The shrimp and grits were one of the best I have had and the fried oysters were perfect. Oysters on the half shell were sweet and reasonably priced. Paula, our waitress was great and we had a fun night!
We had two visitors from Washington DC and we chose Plums -- Tuesday evening - for a nice dinner overlooking the ICW and Park. Everything was nice - weather precluded sitting outside, but it was available. Our waitress gave us two choices on where to sit (8 diners) and we sat center across from the kitchen window. Noise - there really wasn't any to speak of. We could all hear conversations from everyone in our group. Dinners ordered and came all together - warm if appropriate and cool if appropriate - I had crab cakes - outstanding, others had shrimp and grits - outstanding - large salads - outstanding and one the hamburger which is always great! We enjoy Plums as a super Beaufort dinning event.
My husband & I had tried it twice & sat at the same table (ironically) on both occasions - on the beautiful back porch looking out at the river! Interesting menu choices which have generally been good but I got the crab cakes on our recent visit & they were mostly made with fillers. Great desserts! Great staff!
