PlumpJack Cafe Squaw Valley
PlumpJack Cafe is really nice restaurant! We try to go here every time we go to Squaw Valley.
This time out favorites were the Corinsh Hen and the Braised Lamb Shank.
This was our third year staying at Plump Jack. We thoroughly enjoy everything about our stay. See you in a year!
Food was great. Service was great
Food was amazing but noise level was very tough close to bar and would have been better if farther away.
Nice experience, impeccable service, delish food. Loud though.
Delicious meal in elegant room. Best apres ski dinner in Tahoe.
The restaurant was mostly empty. The people next to us were inappropriate. They were here long before us as they were on the dinner portion when we arrived but they were still there when we left. The man got up twice to sit next to the woman and they were kissing at the table next to us. No fault of the plumpjack but it left a sour taste for us.
Also the waiter mentioned something about a salad, but we didn’t get one so that was strange.
Salad leaves were brown. We requested the ($55) steak be medium. Not sure how they managed it, but 3/4 was well done and 1/4 was medium rare. Very disappointing. Won’t be back.
Delish and service was great.
Main entrees on the menu didn’t have one single vegetarian option, which is kind of crazy. Whole page of meat, duck, turkey, lamb, one fish (didn’t taste that good), zero vegetarian options. So if you are a vegetarian and want to eat here, you might need to order bunch of same salad (salads are tiny size) or bunch of soups.
Service was great and attentive.
Hostess at front was highlight of this experience - very friendly and fun.
Desserts were not good, do not eat dessert here - you will be disappointed.
Sadly, the very pricey food is not worth waiting an hour for for it to be very overcooked. However, the service was very attentive and apologetic for the kitchens mishap. We were not the only table to experience bad and slow food.
Starters were great and entrées decent. Service was however so slow that we ended up loosing our appetite.
Excellent service by Jason
One of our favorite restaurants in the Lake Tahoe area. We look forward to dining there and the wine list is amazing.
Excellent food and wine! Great service! Definitely recommend.
The ops and scallops were cooked to perfection. Order the fish. This chef knows what to do with it
Excellent service and even better food. Outstanding!
Good food and good service
Arrived for early 6:30 pm seating and placed in very poor table against the wall despite many empty tables closer to window with more ambience. Asked to be moved but still placed at one of worst tables near the door. When we left around 8 pm, still PLENTY of empty tables with much better location. Indicated when made reservation a couple of weeks in advance that this was a birthday dinner. There was no way this dining room was fully booked for that evening so why not place guests who show up at better location? Food was good but expensive so not a place going to drop in for casual dining.
This was our first time enjoying a meal at Plump Jack, despite knowing its knowing of its reputation in the Valley for years.
The menu is rather small but has enough variety that there’s “something for everyone”
Our starter salads were beautifully prepared and were interesting variations on a “Wedge” and “Farmers Market” salads.
I enjoyed the Sonoma Red Chicken, which was delectably prepared with a perfect sauce and sitting atop grilled vegetables and a red potato/artichoke mixture. My husband was very pleased with the Seared Diver Scallops.
Caesar salad was dreadful. Roast chicken was delicious. Service was fair
Attentive service, inventive cocktails and great food.
Wonderful night out for six people. Three of us had a wonderful meal (corn/jalapeño soup, wedge salad, bison, scallops) but three, who ordered the fish (Ono), not such a great meal. The main courses arrived with the other meals 55 minutes after we finished our appetizers. The main chef was “on the line” but, unfortunately, the fish was incredibly dry so we all sent it back.
We have historically enjoyed wonderful meals here but not this time; however, I want to applaud Heather who waited on our group. She was attentive, sympathetic, and an advocate for us. She understood the challenges and was gracious when we sent the fish back. While waiting for the main courses she poured an additional glass of wine and did her best to keep us sated with wine and bread. Also, a significant adjustment was made to the bill.
So, we will try it one more time in the hopes that this was an off night. But only one more shot because there are simply too many other wonderful options in the Lake Tahoe area.
Simply amazing! A very special place for our family. Wonderful food and professional service.
Our food was not evenly warm which is surprising as we were the first seating of the evening. Would have been good if warmed through. We had the highly recommended Sonoma Chicken.
The ambiance was very nice but the quality of the food was poor. We ordered the fish of the day- it was dry and flavorless.
Always a favorite spot for our special occasions. Great evening.
Hello OGRay, Thank you for visiting us for special occasions. We look forward to seeing you again! Cheers, Stephanie
The food was awful. This was definitely the B-team in the kitchen. I had the corn soup. The presentation was nice. The liquid part was poured around a pile of corn. something. The liquid part was warm, not hot and the pile of corn was cold. The liquid part tasted good but the corn part was bland. I also had the fried green tomatoes. That too was cold and the tomatoes were under cooked and soggy. Come on! Fried food must be served hot! The soup needed salt. The bread needed salt. The butter and salad needed salt. What's up with that? My partner ordered the fish of the day, it was bland, chewy and dried out. I was hoping to have the chicken wings but the restaurant provides fewer choices than the bar menu. Stay in the bar for food, which also is not great but less expensive. This is the second and last time we'll eat in the restaurant. Bland food at a very high price for white table cloth.
Seafood extravaganza. Poke as appetizer. Opah and scallop stew. Outstanding
Thank you for the review MF22! We look forward to seeing you again. Thanks, Stephanie
Excellent attentive friendly waitstaff.
Ambiance rather ordinary, dated. But excellent food.
Disappointed. We’ve eaten there several times over the past few years, when we are in the area for vacation; we were so disappointed. Service was mediocre. The food was uninspired, and sparing. The portions and quality did not support the price.
I would not recommend a buffet like the one we went to. The food on the main menu is so much better I was very disappointed with the food .
We ate at plump jack cafe for Easter brunch. Food was delicious, service was great, ambiance was clean with beautiful Mountain Views. My only suggestion is to have a clear kids menu and perhaps one or two items that are less adventurous for adults.
Excellent Brussels pizza and short rib. Great vibe. Something special about Plumpjack...
Plumpjack is a fun place with high energy. Its not a quiet romantic dinner location following a day of skiing
Menu was a bit limited but food and service and ambiance was great. Very convenient as well.
We love PlumpJack's for breakfast and for dinner. The variety at breakfast is perfect, and each item whether it's scrambled eggs, bacon, fruit breads, incredible homemade granola, fresh fruits and yogurt is beautifully prepared and fresh. Dinners are gourmet quality -- so much better than one would expect at a ski resort. Everything we've ordered - appetizers, entrees, and desserts - have been exquisite, and the service is attentive and friendly. We highly recommend this place.
We loved the elk and the scallops....not typical to get 6 good size scallops for a main!
Our fav were the cones.....keep’em coming ;)
Service was great
Cost was reasonable to people that live in San Francisco.
Hello, Thank you for your review and we look forward to your next visit! Cheers, Stephanie
On my second visit in two months and the food was consistent and outstanding. Portions were a little small or this was five stars for sure. It’s likely that this is the best restaurant in the Squaw Valley area. I’m certain the best restaurant within walking distance from the mountain.
Hello bobbytriumph, Thank you for visiting us again and we value your review! We are happy to hear your found yourself a good place to eat! We look forward to your next visit, Stephanie
Always happy to return to PJC for a nice dinner. Was not disappointed again. The elk was tremendous and my wife enjoyed the catch of the day. Great evening with attentive service.
