We had Oysters Rockefeller, crab cakes and another delicious fish dish with yummy bread and champagne for lunch. Perfect food selection for friends to share! Great service, comfortable setting, fair value with perfect portions! Will return soon.

Service was excellent! Waitress was right there whenever we needed her. She was personable and would be pleased to have her service us again. Both of us had the shrimp dish and it was out of this world. Can't wait to go back again!

Very unimpressive for a pricey restaurant. Everything tasted pretty bland. However, service was great and attentive. This is a good place to go for a business lunch since it's in the FiDi area but would not go out of my way to eat here.

We were going to be in the area so decided to re-visit Plouf after many years. The restaurant is only physically the same. The. Food was at one time excellent, now mediocre at very best. Would not recommend or return.

Moules Frites good. The Brussel sprout slaw with bacon very good. Mainly a fish menu. There are a few meat options.

Spent my birthday here with a friend and we ordered on the pri fix menu for Restaurant week. Dinner $40! (Not including tax or tip).

I was very impressed with the quality of the food. My friend and I ordered: fried calamari, ravioli, steak and prawns, chocolate mousse, and the creme brulee(my favorite). All the portions were very decent sized and for a three course meal I was stuffed by the end! There was not a dish we didn't like.

I also love how it's tucked away in an alley so it has more of a European vibe, definitely a hidden gem in San Francisco. Would return for sure!

Love this place on tiny Belden alley. Original owners (brothers) still work there turning out the best mussels. The menu has a solid french cafe menu, but I always get the Plouf style mussels with sides of french fries and garlic bread for dipping into the mussel sauce. I went with a female friend and we shared a starter of beef carpaccio and the large order of mussels. We sat inside, but there is a heated, enclosed outdoor space that looked cosy. Thank you Plouf for a great meal!

Went to Plouf during restaurant week. Enjoyed their prefix menu. Selected calamari, hanger steak and shrimp, and creme brûlée. Calamari was pretty good, but the red sauce could have been tastier. The hanger steak was perfectly cooked and well seasoned with a rich sauce that tied the dish together well. Finally, the creme brûlée was excellent. I liked the ambience within the restaurant. Nice and lively with good background music. Service was very good as well.

Tried this out for San Francisco restaurant week and would definitely return.
Clam chowder appetizer was excellent, not heavy and lots of clams.
Mussels fresh and delicious. Dessert was tasty but not a must have.

Three friends gathering to celebrate the new year and try this restaurant during SF Restaurant Week. Selected Plouf because of great selection for dinner on the special menu. Food was very tasty and well-prepared. Service was poor. Waiter knew we had one more guest coming but kept pressing us to order appetizers. Didn't bring bread, one tiny piece, until we were almost done with main course. I had to ask for more water since they didn't put a carafe of water on the table - which is customary. I'd eat here again for the food but not for the service. "Lamentable", comme on dit. Maybe service would have been better if we had ordered off the regular more pricey menu? We did order cocktails and wine!

Outstanding. We came back a second night as the food was so good. Clam chowder is very good (not thick at all like the New England style). The steak and shrimp entree is an excellent value. Didn't care too much for the chocolate mouse: It was very dark chocolate and was almost bitter to me. Creme brulee is a must to round out the meal....delicious and delectable burnt sugar topping.

Pretty average. Quite expensive for what it was. Mussels a disappointment with way too much sauce going on. Fries were extra, making the overall price for what was essentially moules frites, very very expensive

Had lunch with some friends and just loved that there were multiple options for the broth that the mussels were prepared in. If you are a mussel lover this is the place.

We have been going to Plouf when in San Fran for a several years now. The food has been very consistent and very good. Always go for the Mussels, and this time my wife had Butter Fish... cooked perfectly. Wine list is limited and mostly French - but good values. Belden Lane is always a good spot to go when downtown.

Have eaten at Plouf many times, usually reliable, congenial and satisfying. Perhaps this was just a (rainy) off night but not up to par. Lackadaisical service, uneven food, mediocre wine.

The French can cook for sure. I had the Hawaiian Butter Fish. The mushroom risotto was delicious. It wasn't heavy. I'm very health conscious. I loved my entree. My boyfriend had the lamb. He said that was the best lamb he's had recently. My girlfriend had the BOUILLABAISSE. I had a bite. It was awesome. I'm ordering that next time!

Plouf used to be my go to place for moules frites. This time around, the mussels were anemic - shriveled up little balls of tough, chewy, dry meat ensconced in their shells. If you can't get decent quality ingredients, you should take the item off the menu. On top of that, it took almost an hour to get my food, as the waiter came back to ask what I had ordered after about 30 minutes, then asked again about 10 minutes later due to "computer problems." It wasn't that busy that evening, so it's unclear to me why they couldn't keep track of their customers.

Definitely not a place for foodies. The mussels, their speciality, were unsalty, overcooked and had sand inside. The rest of the plates we ordered were quite disappointing also. We came here by the hotel recommendation knowing that our hotel didnt make good recommendations but it was even more disappointing that what we expected.

On our online reservation we requested a table inside and away from drafty areas since we we had a 94 year old in our party for a Christmas day dinner. Upon our arrival on time, there were no available tables inside. We never received a response from the restaurant that our request could not be met. We did not dine there.

We dined at Plouf for Christmas Day dinner and watched a steady stream of other diners be disappointed/upset/resigned when told that the only available seating was for the covered patio area...it was cold out there, with just a few heaters near the actual building. Plouf evidently continues to take reservations for their small place without notifying customers that it's outdoor seating only after the inside tables are filled, reservations or not. We were tucked into a tiny corner near the bar, next to the open door and completely isolated from all other tables, with random attention from the servers. It was too cold to take my coat off. The food was quite tasty but the overall experience was underwhelming.

Meh. This is a restaurant that relies more on location than food quality. If you need a financial district convenient meal or you are a tourist, it's fine. If you want something tasty made my an actual chef, there are much better options.
