We had not ben back in this restaurant for 18 years but had fond recollections. Todays experience, friendly host and waiters, great mussls with incredible sauces perfectly matched what we hoped for

We went to the restaurant to take a friend out to lunch. The service was terrible. The waiter was gruff and in a hurry. Once he took our order we didn't see him again until he brought the check. When helpers brought out the food, one of our dishes was missing, only showing up after we finished eating. The waiter never checked on us, or asked if we needed drinks or anything. The food was mediocre.

OMG We loved the whole experience. This is a gem down town. The chef was very accommodating with our request and produced an excellent hawian butter fish. A very French feel!

I was dinning at Plouf Sunday night with 8 people at 8:00 pm. I must start by saying that I have been going to the restaurant for over 10 years and bringing lots of my friends because the food and service is remarkable. I have never ever had a bad experience there until Sunday night when I was very much embarrassed and appalled for taking my family from Italy who was visiting me in SF.

The waiter that we had was disgraceful and rude to us. We wanted to order many times and he avoided us and made us wait, When we finally ordered our food i asked for water and he threw down the water glass at my cousin and she became upset and said he is a rude man. Next our salads came and he just threw down the salad plates in from of us and walked away. I tried to get his attention because some people wanted some bread but he pretended he did not hear us. I also asked him for his name many times and he would just look at me and walk away. Finally the main entree came and he did the same thing slam down the dishes at us and walked away.
That was the worst service I have ever experienced in a restaurant. And let me tell you I have have been to may restaurants in SF and have never been treated this way. If this is the type of staff they hire I certainly will not be going back nor my friends. I write the restaurant and I have not heard back from them.

The mussels are always fantastic at Plouf, and that is definitely the main draw of this restaurant. The service can be spotty, but it's usually fine.

Friends told us about this place and it did NOT disappoint! Plouf has amazing crab cakes, mussels and pomme frites....all of which we had. I would highly recommend all of those.

Celebrated belated Birthday lunch with a friend who just returned from France. We both love mussels and we ordered (Plouf's version). The sauce was so amazing, and although we ordered the large portion, it was served with only 1 piece of toasted bread to dip, so while waiting for additional bread we actually spooned the sauce like a soup...Yummy! We also ordered the tartar and the pate', both of which my friend said rivaled what he had in France. The delicious candied orange peel is the perfect balance with the rich pate'. Would definitely go back again to try a different variety of mussels and perhaps partake in the Happy Hour!

We went to Plouf last weekend to celebrate a big birthday and Mother's Day. Hadn't been there in awhile but we were so happy we returned. The Mussels are some of the best I have ever eaten including Paris and the appetizers, frittes and desserts were delicious. It is very authentically French in every way. I highly recommend Plouf if you are looking for fantastic Mussels and a top cuisine experience!

Best Mussels ever. My friend and I had the coconut mussels - they were awesome. The staff was very sensitive to the need for Gluten-free options. They originally brought out the mussels with the toast tucked in. But, they had no issue when we pointed out the need for GF and it was clear based on the time it took that they didn't just take it back in the kitchen and remove the toast and bring back out (many places do this and often you don't know until you get done eating and find crumbs on the bottom of the dish).

Good food, but we did not know we could get options. The service was not good. There was no check back to see how we were doing, we did not get refills on our drinks. Once our order was taken, we did not see our waiter again.

I've been eating at Plouf for years, but not as much now that I don't work downtown. I always love returning for an authentic French bistro experience with classic delicious meals and nice French wine. Love the interior design as well - intimate, simple, yet open and airy.

A true French restaurant. We had mussels which were perfectly prepared. The bread which accompanied the mussels did not seem fresh. We ordered the garlic bread which was also good. The french fries were a bit of a disappointment, different from previous meals. They serve Kronenbourg beer which is excellent and not readily available.

Service was good. We sat outside, which added tot he experience.

This was our third visit to Plouf, and it will not be our last. Good wine selection and the bartender does a fine cucumber muddled Hendrick's martini. The best mussels, clams and sauces in the land! Service was terrific.

Plouf serves good, solid Bistro fair in the restaurant alley of Beldon Place. We had a creative fried calamari friti with green onions and thin slices of deep fried lemon, a good salad nicoise and some excellent moules. The only thing I would say is that their frites are below par

Plouf was recommended by a friend and since we love mussels this was the place to come to. This was dinner before the theater. I would recommend walking if possible since traffic can be a bear. The mussels were fabulous and the bouillabaisse unforgettable. The pom frites were perfect and the bread (extra charge) for slopping up the mussel broth was a blessing.

The choice of sitting inside or outside was an added bonus. I can see where sitting outside will be fabulous during the months that it is warmer. The choice was appreciated.

The only complaint was the time we waited for our check.

Famous for excellent mussels in many different ways and proved to be up to those
recommends. In addition, they had a superior housemade ratatouille and a special bouillabaise that my spouse raved about. Nice wine selections. We didn't have it, but there is a lovely table for 4 to 6 by an open fireplace at the rear. Would definitely return. Fair to mention that we ate early, so there might be a higher noise level at prime dining times: make a reservation.
