This little gem was fabulous place to dine. Mussels Plouf - about the best mussels dish my husband and I ever had. Oh and the wine pours were very generous and reasonably priced for SF. Plouf, we will miss you!
We will miss it!
Plouf is always good. Mussels are excellent with several choices of sauces. Fish is also good. Has a French bistro feel.
I understand they were closing, but they didn’t have key items available for their menu, they had a private party which was loud, and it took quite a while for us to be served because we were hidden in a corner. It wasn’t the way I wanted to remember my last meal at Plouf. It was really disappointing.
going to miss this place. I took my wife there when we were dating. we've been there a few times. It was one of our getaway spots.
I’m going to miss this establishment. Long-time patron. Loved your mussels!
Plouf did not honor our reservation. We requested outside for 8 people. We were seated inside.
Used to have more character. Felt rushed to get out and it wasn’t closing time. Mussels were very small.
My cocktail was pretty horrible (Old Fashioned) and never was asked if I wanted another drink once it was finished. The restaurant seemed short-staffed and we had to get up and ask for service twice during the experience. Food was OK, but not outstanding. Generally not a great experience this time.
We celebrated my daughter's birthday; She has requested it be at Plouf the past few years, as we always have a wonderful experience. This recent visit for her birthday did not disappoint! The food, service and ambience were superb, and they went out of their way to acknowledge her birthday - we will return soon.
Plouf has just changed. Probably under new ownership. It’s just not what it was. It used to have a very European feel, French feel with outdoor bistro seating and a very energetic, vibrant buzz. The seating has changed, the charm is gone, the passion isn’t there. It’s flat. It’s too bad. It used to be an experience. Sadly I won’t go back.
Food & Atmosphere were amazing...however our service was anything but...although we arrived well before our reservation time and there were only two other people dining...the bartender/waitress couldn’t have been more unwelcoming, put out and actually very RUDE!!! Sad that her disposition will make me think twice about recommending or dining here again
We've been to Plouf many times over the years, and sometimes it's better than others. On our last visit, everything was great. The mussels were delicious, as were the crab cakes, salmon and cocktails. Great ambience on Belden Lane.
Great restaurant on Beldon Place
Great food and service
The food was awful except the mussels.
An absolutely wonderful and delicious meal! Outstanding food, wonderful server, reasonable prices.
Excellent sea food restaurant on Beldon Place. They also have outside seating and accommodate pets.
Nobody was asking me if I have a reservation and where I’d like to sit, etc. The food was good, yet it felt the staff was a little busy elsewhere and did not care much.
We arrived at the restaurant around 4:45 for Happy Hour before our 5:30 pm dinner reservation. A young man was sitting outside on his phone and an older man was standing at the doorway saw us approaching, but did not acknowledge us until I said “Excuse me”. I asked if they were opened and the older man quickly said “No, 30 minutes” and turned around. Rude! Uh, ok. Their website and the sign right outside the door says Happy Hour started at 2:30. Please update the website and change your sign! If we weren’t already starving and didn’t want to go through the trouble of finding another restaurant open close by, I would’ve just cancelled and gone elsewhere. I tried my best not to let this ruin my good mood.
We waited in the car and came back 5 minutes before our reservations and asked the young man who was still on his phone if we can sit at the bar before dinner. The staff was sitting and talking at a corner table. We were the first and only customers there for a while. That was awkward. I should’ve taken this as a sign. We ordered drinks at first then decided to order an appetizer since after about 15 minutes, they didn’t ask if we were ready to be seated. I finally had to get their attention and ask if we can be seated at our table. We ordered and ate. The food was good (not great). I was surprised by the terrible service since other reviews raved about it. They didn’t even acknowledge our anniversary which I clearly indicated on my Open Table reservation.
I don’t think I’ll go back.
I like the place but I do not think I have ever experienced this poor service in any restaurant in San Francisco. Very bad.
The mussels are always excellent and it is a comfortable atmosphere.
Will definitely be back!
Most expensive mussels w French fries ($30) plus the unavoidable 5%San Francisco mandate fee.
I will not return. There are better and cheaper places in the East Bay
Great atmosphere and value for a family of five. Eric from Fontainebleau was charming. Enjoy
The Mussels are superb and the wine list is solid. Total hidden gem on a cute alleyway.
This is a solid restaurant. Beldon Place is an excellent location. The food is
We had a fabulous graduation-dinner at Plouf. The only thing my daughter had requested for the meal was, "Mussels, Ma; you know I love mussels." I'm so glad we found Plouf! Ordering a variety of dishes w the intent to share is a great idea for this place. Also, the fixed price menu is a deal if you like clam chowder and mussels so I'll probably do that next time as at least one set of items. (Dinner for 7 was about $600.) Plouf is now at the top of our list of places to enjoy when downtown.
The little alley it is on is charming in a European kind of way. Park at St. Mary's parking lot on Kearny by Pine--close and cheap. The restaurant itself is sort of industrial shabby-chic, not at all the "stuffy" kind of white table cloth French place. You'd be as comfortable there in jeans, work attire, or a date night sexy dress! We went on a Wednesday night reserving a table of 10 a week or two prior; they were very accommodating of our last minute change in numbers to 7 (Unfortunately, I couldn't get the OpenTable app to change it).
The drinks to start the night were totally yummy; especially the Plouf martini. The food was superlative. We had a number of appetizers and especially enjoyed the octopus salad which was so good (simply grilled-- considerably more tender than most I've eaten) we ordered another. The clam chowder was the best our friend said he ever had. We had 4 flavors of mussels, all delicious, and the mussels large, soft and juicy. (I took the coconut broth home and had it w udon noodles the next night.) I asked for the tuna prepared with the mushroom sauce, in the way the salmon was listed on the menu, which they accommodated-- it was fabulous! We had three of the main desserts which was more than enough for 7 to share: creme brulee (large), chocolate-espresso mousse (very dark, not too sweet, really great), and a poached pear extravaganza that was huge with a fun presentation.
Do keep up communication w the staff otherwise they are hands off mellow.
Excellent and prompt servive. Pleasant environment and delicious food. I had the Plouf mussels which were excellent.would come again.
Ordered Plouf mussels. Decadent and delicious. Highly recommend
Best muscles in SF. Good service, great location, friendly wait staff.
Fabulous food! We had mussels 3 ways. All were delicious, but our favorite were the Poulette. The salmon was excellent as was the bouillabaisse which was loaded with seafood. Service was excellent too. Definitely a must when in San Francisco!
Clam chowder was different than we've ever had before and it was the best we've ever had and there was lots of it. The mussels were good and again, the serving was very generous, but not enough bread accompanied it. However, when we asked for more, it was promptly supplied. They no longer had the carpaccio listed on their website menu, so we ordered the beef tartar which was a great disappointment. It was very coarsely chopped instead of it being finely chopped and the flavor was very bland.
I was only disappointed because per the website and an outside sign there was supposed to have Happy Hour on Sat 2:30 and the restaurant was closed. Then we went back because YELP said they have the best oyster rockefleller. We order and he states they only served oyster rockefeller in the winter!!??! Why?! This is in SF!?! So on that note disappointed. But the food was darn right yummy so they slightly made up for the other two issues we encountered.
No wild fish
Was a big dissapointment
I would not recommend it
reservation made for outside table. Waiter never checked the reservation and led us to table at very back of restaurant, and was annoyed when we then asked to be seated outside. Waiter placed us at a table where the floor was at a significant angle and was uncomfortable to sit at. Would not combine other table to accommodate the 6 of us. Gave us the choice of going back inside on a warm sunny day.
On a recent Saturday night at 7:30, the place was nearly dead. Despite this, the service we received was inattentive and indifferent. I asked for a glass of wine and the server brought me water in a wine glass. Unfortunately, I’m unable to turn water into wine. Grilled salmon was good, however, as is the French martini. But Plouf has no pulse anymore, which I’ve noticed on the last several visits.
The mussels were exquisite as well as the crab cakes. A great meal and lots of ambiance dining outside.
Excellent food and ambiance. Service was prompt but less attentive than one would expect (no refills on ice tea, no "check-in" to see if we needed anything). Pricing a tad high, but overall quality outstanding.
Plouf is reliably good. I’ve enjoyed it for years. The prefix menu has the best dishes - baby lettuce salad, your choice of mussels and a choice of dessert. I’d love to have the salad dressing recipe.
