Plaza III, The Steakhouse - Kansas City Ratings and Reviews
We went to Dinner on valentine’s Day.
My dates dinner was a petite filet and lobster with a loaded baked potato.
I ordered a Ribeye steak and grilled mixed veggies.
Had a great bottle of wine #466 (really good)
My dates meal was spot on.!!
Mine was not.! It was a thin non marbled piece of meat, that wasn’t cooked properly. I’ve had better steak at a Golden Corral.!!!
I had to ask our server to refresh our wine glasses twice.
Table cloth was damp.
For $250.00 one of the worst experiences I’ve had dinning.
Will not be returning unless comped.!!
After we were seated and placed our order it took an hour for our food to come out! Our waitress didn’t check on us hardly at all and when she did she was very short with us and never mentioned how much longer for our food. I realize it was Valentine’s Day but that’s why you make reservations for things. Service was just poor and amount of time to wait for food. Not worth the price
My wife and I had dinner during this past Valentines day for our date night. We arrived to a terrible valet parking senario where after 30 mins I needed to go out to check on my car park assignment number that they never texted me. Then my wife and I get sat in the quietest room possible so that a normal conversation wasnt even private. Then the food came..... 90+ $ for two medium rare steaks that were both poor quality cuts and very poorly cooked. Never again will I eat there and cant imagine I would / could speak nicely about it if asked.
Been there before in the basement it was GREAT, sat upstairs this time and not good at all. There was a fruit fly in my wife's drink, a waiter dropped a serving table into my spine and we was seated near the bussing area, it was loud, people running into each other dropping dishes, it was very unpleasant. And the waitress was not around, had one drink until the end of the meal and finally got another one. I took my wife for Valentine's day and was disappointed. Best part my wife was with me.
The staff was very professional and did a great job. I would have preferred to see my server a bit more. It caused more waiting than it should have.
Food was good, just not good for what you pay. I expected great food and it was mediocre at best. Including the steak.
We have been here several times! The food wasn't so good this time. I barely ate any of my food, very bland. The best thing was the crab cakes. My Husband had to send his prime rib back. He asked for medium well it was raw. It's usually not this bad. I talk about it all the time . Hopefully next time will be better.
When we walked in there were 3 young girls working behind the desk and when I attempted to affirm my reservation, one was about to take a picture of a couple and awkwardly waved us out but we had no where to go. The other two did not offer to help but instead enjoyed the depths of the photography experience. It was odd and a bit uncomfortable. After the initial awkwardness, our service was outstanding. The food was excellent. We were traveling so we felt a bit under dressed for Valentine's day weekend, but we both enjoyed our experience.
Date night for the wife and I. The wife enjoyed the petite sirloin and crab cakes, I enjoyed a delicious T-bone. We waited for at least 45 min to get our food mostly attributable to the three large private parties, but an awesome performance by Jazz musician Lonnie McFadden made the wait pleasant. His performance alone made the trip worth it. Great experience!
My companion picked Plaza III to celebrate his birthday. He really enjoyed the evening. We had tender steaks cooked exactly as we ordered them. The sides, mac and cheese and the huge baked potato, were very good. He had a grand marnier flavored souffle for his dessert. They had some nice wines by the glass. Service is very formal but it was friendly and welcoming. Valet parking is available or there is a parking garage very near by. It's expensive, but it's a great experience.
When we parked & went up the carpeted dirty stairs from the parking garage & into the restaurant, there was a musty smell....we were seated & when the waitress came to our table she seemed like she really didn't want to wait on us.... The Filet Mignon's we ordered were tough & had grizzle in them.....I can remember years ago when this was the place to be.....Now, not so much!!.....How Sad!!
I used to be very impressed with Plaza III but hadn't been there in maybe six years. It was a good value for Restaurant Week, but I wouldn't recommend it with normal prices. The steak soup wasn't as good as it used to be, and multiple things went amiss in communications and execution. Problems included undercooked salmon despite a request for well done, the rest of our party standing in the lobby for 10 minutes with us waiting for them in the restaurant despite them asking and being told by the hostess we were not there yet, etc. Nothing particular special about it anymore, I'm sad to say.
We went for Restaurant Week and expected that MAYBE the quality would be a little worse (even though if you can't produce quality you shouldn't do restaurant week....). But our salads were literally frozen, our steaks were chewy and not even better than some guys BBQ midsummer, my cheesecake for dessert was so obviously prebought and not made in house that it was actually funny and my partner ordered the creme brulee, which didn't even have the attempt to have an appropriate glacé on it. The service was fine but we didn't even feel like complaining about our food because we didn't feel they would be fixed because the owner walked by several times and didn't even notice the problems or acknowledge us as we are normally acknowledged when the owner is on the floor.
Also speaking of service, half way through the meal, a busboy came over and completely cleared our table, drinks silverware, bread, literally everything, so when our steaks were brought out the server had to GO FIND us new silverware and bread, etc. It made no sense and clearly no one was communicating.
I don't think this was Restaurant Week growing pains, this seems like crap management and service.
The service struggled a bit around the bar (took forever to get a server then to get a drink). We told the check-in lady that we would be at the bar. Then she forgot we were even there and never came to get us. However, once we sat at our table, the dinner and service went well. The food is outstanding.
I would consider Plaza III one of the traditional, must eat at restaurants in KC. Glad we went, but would not go back unless someone else picked up the tab. It was restaurant week, so the bill was not as pricey as normal, but this place is living off its legacy more than anything else at this point. Food is good not great, service is good not great and way to pricey for what it is. I did like the old school atmosphere even though there was a musty odor throughout the restaurant. Place could use some remodeling in some areas as well. Would choose Capital Grill over this place everyday of the week.
I have never had such a bad experience with both service and food anywhere .We ordered and 2 of the 5 had soup which was good. We ordered a second round of cocktails. We did not see our waitress for over 35 minutes. When our dinners arrived and everyone started eating , one by one every person was complaining about their steaks . They had no flavor . They were Luke warm. My baked potato was flat out cold. I did ask for another one, which I received. The grande platter we ordered( $99 of grilled seafood )was cold . Our drinks we ordered came 5 minutes after they cleared the table.( over 30 minutes from the time we ordered them)
Being a Kansas City native the Plaza III restaurant has always been a great place to go. It is disappointing to have to write this . Bad service is one thing but , cold food, flavorless steaks are another. Please do not waste your money at this restaurant .
The hosts were short and unpleasant when we walked in and neither of them acknowledged us on our way out. A tray was dropped and water spilled all over mine and my husbands feet (really sucks walking to the car in 10 degree weather with wet shoes). My scallops were gritty. His steak was undercooked. My salad never came out. Our server was nice but it took 13 minutes for someone to come to our table, then we got to hear 2 servers arguing over a table. A manager never came by to ask how anything was. Maybe restaurant week has everyone off their game but we’ll just stick to Capital for date night.
The Plaza 3 has been around a long time, however I feel it’s falling back on it’s former reputation.
The restaurant had a sewer smell. The iced veggies were boring. The filet was cooked perfectly but the bearnais sauce was horrible. The green beans were bland and awful. Even key lime pie was not good
We bought a bottle of wine that was overpriced by 200 percent.
I won’t waste my time returning there
