We dined at the Plaza III on the final night they were open after serving elegant cuisine for more than 40 years. I have fond memories of taking young children to the Plaza III for a special occasion or our annual trek to KC for the Plaza lighting ceremony. We celebrated birthdays to graduations in this Kansas City landmark known for top notch food, service and fine, old-time dining. It was a nostalgic evening of saying goodbye to staff and the manager. This review will likely not be shown on Open Table since they are closing the restaurant. It is my hope that Plaza III will re-emerge in a new location and continue a tradition cherished by many people who traveled from great distances (such as my family) for a special evening at the Plaza III.
I’ve loved Plaza III since my first dinner there 12 years ago. I am devastated that it’s closing. However, I am so blessed to be able to have been there for their last night on the Plaza. I will miss the people and the food so much!
Plaza III. Great as always, shame they are closing
It is sad to see a Country Club Plaza institution close after 55 years. Great steaks, great wine, great live music with Lonnie McFadden. The Plaza is going to be less attractive without this restaurant/lounge. We look forward to the restaurant opening in a new location soon.
We are so sad this place is closing. We went here quite a bit for happy hour and had so much fun. We had staff members that were friends after going in so much and we always spent our special occasions here.
Service was more than lacking, no salad dressing for wife's salad waitress forgot and never came back for 18 minutes) had to ask for bread, and our medium plus cooked filets were served cold, yes they were cold to the touch. So sad we have eaten here for years but the last 2 times in 30 days have been a real big let down.
This place is a true classic. Simple elegance. Outstanding atmosphere, service, and cuisine.
I’m so very sorry to see this iconic Kansas City restaurant close. The Plaza is losing a legendary steakhouse! With each independently owned business that closes our city loses more of it’s history, uniqueness and charm.
A Kansas City tradition for as long as I can remember. Saw to see it close, but a wonderful last meal this week. Hopeful that ownership will find a new place to re-open.
it was fabulous. wanted eat here one last time before they closed
Plaza III used to be one of the best restaurants in Kansas City. It now seems tired with so-so food at expensive prices. Great steak soup if not great steaks. Wonderful happy hour.
Devastated that they are leaving. Speechless
Ordered the famous steak soup. Very disappointed. It had no flavor. Salad was average. Our friend loved the meatloaf. Said it was the best he had ever had.
Sorry to see it close and look forward to the new location~ wherever that may be
My wife and I ordered the same dish--shrimp and scallops on pasta. There were three large shrimp and three large scallops on plain noodles with some butter. Price was $38. I can get a much tastier dish of four large scallops on creamed spinach with quinoa cake at Tavern for $24. The restaurant was cold and very dated. Service was very professional. I hadn't been here for about 30 years, and I won't return.
3/6/18 we wanted to be sure to go to Plaza III before they closed. I think it is horrible that they are closing! And I hope they will reopen in a different location!
Plaza III has always been one of our favorite restaurants, and we are sorry to see it close. I do believe the closing date or 10 March led to the less than desirable food and atmosphere for our evening. We Plaza III will reopen and offer the KC area many more years of excellent food and service.
Not sure it matters as the place closes this week. Whole place had a weird odor. Service was terribly slow. Took 20 minutes before someone came by with water. Food was average, steak soup bland.
It is a shame that this County Club Plaza landmark restaurant is closing. Progress, I guess. I've always enjoyed meals there and have lots of great memories.
We wanted to go to Plaza III one last time before they go out of business, and my wife really wanted the prime rib. Apparently prime rib at lunch is different than in the evening. She got dry thin sliced deli meat that bore no resemblance to the prime rib she had gotten here before. We ended up taking most of it home to feed to the dog. The crab cakes were excellent, however. Although the restaurant was not crowded, a group of men were having a business meeting in the room, including phones on speaker, which spoiled the ambiance, and dampened our last visit to Plaza III.
So sorry that Plaza III is closing after all these years. Wish they could have found a way to stay open. It always was one of my favorites--I will especially miss their legendary Steak Soup and Plaza III Garden Salad.
Sad you are closing! Lots of memories here over the years! A cornerstone of Kansas City dining for decades.
Sorry to see it close. Still very good food and service.
Love this landmark!!! Best in KC!
Sad to see them leave after 50+ years. BEST service ever and excellent food!
We'll miss you.
The steaks were over cooked and tough.
Service top notch
Company second to none
Nostalgia galore will miss this place
We came before they closed. This is my favorite go to Steakhouse. The best in KC. The Plaza III will be greatly missed. Thanks for all the great memories I will have of this wonderful place!!!!
I was really excited to go back to the Plaza III and eat there before they closed for good. I had such fond memories of the food, ambiance, service. The Plaza III was such a landmark for years. I always referred people from out of town to eat there.
Last Friday night, I didn't recognize the place. Dirty, run down and the service was not the same. Food was ok and way over priced for what you got.
I feel that maybe the Plaza III should have occurred a year ago
We’re going to miss this classic KC treasure. So many great memories over the decades.
Had to go one last time. KC has lost another gem!
Over priced. I can make better athome
Too bad it's a goner. Bye, bye Plaza III.
Kansas City needs an authentic-style old timey steakhouse.
So sorry this Kansas City landmark is closing. It was a farewell lunch with a good friend to enjoy their delicious Steak Soup and other food one last time.
Sorry to see them go. Took our 12 year old son so he could say he had been there and had the steak soup.
A wonderful meal. Too bad it's closing. Lots of memories there!
Our sever was obviously not a regular, but since the restaurant is closing it was to be expected.
We felt bad for the staff because of the imminent closing. It was as if the staff had to work their own funeral.
Steak soup was room temperature, rarely saw the server.
Since the announcement of closing, they said half of their staff have left.
