About

Following in the footsteps of Hudson House and The Tripel, Playa Provisions is the third endeavor for Top Chef winner Brooke Williamson and husband Nick Roberts. The unique model includes four different restaurant concepts nestled within one 7,000-square foot, beach side location, including a bright and fun ice cream shop (with all ice creams made in-house) called Small Batch; a casual market counter serving breakfast and lunch, called King Beach; a back-room whisky bar called Grain; and a more high-end dining space dedicated to seasonal seafood fare, called Dockside. Inspired by the city's "country marts," the four separate, yet cohesive dining experiences provide a taste for everyone.

Husband and I love Hudson house so decided to spend some money NYE at Brooke's new local restaurant. We were very impressed with the entire evening. Hostess was very friendly and accommodating. We enjoyed the Grain Bar our first hour. Husband loved the rye flights. Dinner was glorious our second hour. Lobster roll, beef cheek ragu pasta were a revelation.
Such a beautiful evening. I dream of the lobster roll...

Consistently terrific. Despite the crowds (PP is almost always very busy) and the hearty decibel levels, this place in remarkable for the quality and consistency from its kitchen team. Remains one of the westside’s outstanding venues.

From the East Coast, in LA area for Thanksgiving, and following our penchant to check out Top Chef restaurants it was our first visit to Playa Provisions ~ an energetic space ~ a number of larger groups 6+ to a table probably helped contribute to the cacophony. But, it was fun. We were there in the later evening, so do not know if there is a view!
We especially enjoyed the Lobster Rolls, and Salt Cod Chowder. The Patty Melt was huge.
The server was having a little trouble coordinating when the food came out - our sides came pretty well after the entrees, and then we had to wait for 'the' serving spoon - for some reason he only brought one: The Roasted Cauliflower was OK; the potato Tostones - interesting - definitely dip them in the aioli; the Crab Mac-n-Cheese was delicious; and we don't know about the corn on the cob as the server never brought it.
All in all an uneven experience, but the food was very good and once the crowd thinned out, it was a pleasant place to catch up with our relatives.

We have watched Top Chef for years and since Brook Williamson opened up Playa Provisions - we had to give it a try! A little tricky for us to get there but once inside we were delighted! The menu may be a little daunting because so many fantastic choices! A great combination of seafood and so many other things! This has become a favorite instantly to visit every time we get back to CA. Very unique and playful in its approach to food and the overall dinning experience! Love it!

There’s something SO special about this place. Something for everyone and can be romantic and family oriented and hip and cool all at once. It’s like going on vacation every time I’m there.
Great menu and incredible service.
A solid must for all.

My wife and I have had lunch at Playa Provisions a number of times. The lobster roll and the salads are always top shelf and the location is wonderful -- just across from the beach in PDR. But this past weekend was our first time for dinner and it was terrific. The food was excellent, the choice of reasonably priced beers and wines was impressive, and the service -- thank you, Diana -- was outstanding. There were four of us -- the two women ordered the salmon and the two men ordered the chicken. The only dispute over the course of the evening was over who ordered better -- we eventually declared it a draw. Sides were also amazing -- particularly the roasted carrots, which I would have NEVER ordered, but ended up devouring. And the desserts, a smores mousse and apple donuts, were shareable and ridonculous. All in all, a very nice meal in a very nice setting and all for a pretty reasonable price. Well done, PP, well done.

Weekend brunch at PP promises a very high energy level, sizable crowds (of walk-ins) and some delightfully diverse menu options. A terrific wake-up experience and a wonderfully kinetic environment for socializing with other couples, etc.

Quite possibly my favorite restaurant in all of Los Angeles!
And Drew is such an amazing bartender, my fiancée and I, and ALL of our friends actually go in for Sunday Brunch specifically to see him.
Just an overall great spot, beautiful beach location, open air, excellent food, etc...
So happy this place exists. Makes Playa Del Rey even better

The wait time on our food was over 30 minutes and when we finally received it, it looked terrible! It was as if it was thrown together in a matter of seconds. My skillet eggs that were supposed to have a runny yolk were cooked all the way through, so what should have been a kinda saucy dish was dry and chalky. There were ingredients were missing from almost all of our dishes and our server was unapologetic about it when we brought it to his attention. It was so loud in there we had to yell at each other across the table. Drinks were tasty, but everything else was a thumbs down. We won't be back :(

Great drinks, atmosphere and service. I just wished, as a vegetarian, a little more attention was paid to my dish. Cauliflower 'steak' was very under cooked and more than 3 tablespoons of quinoa and sauce would have been nice.

I love the idea of Playa Provisions. The theory is great but the practice is lacking. For the third time, I have gone there and have been disappointed in the fare. First time was an astronomically priced patty melt with no real side. The second time, the restaurant was closed for a random reason and last night.

I was excited to give them another shot but the "gas" was out. They had no fryer or grill. That cut the choices down considerably.

I landed on a salmon nicoise salad. It came with 8 minute eggs but I felt like they were more like 2 minute eggs with a very runny yolk. When I asked for a firmer egg, they clearly just went into the refrigerator as the egg I received was cold, albeit for a salad. The lettuce on the salad was wilted and drenched in dressing.

The $8 pretzel bites were passable but they really need pretzels from Rockenwagner. That is a real pretzel.

Finally, I have to say the best part of the meal was the dessert. We had a strawberry shortcake with cake donuts. That was delicious.

So maybe just dessert and drinks.

Every dish we had was amazing! From the bread, to the calamari, to our entrées and then desserts. We sat on the patio and had a wonderful time. However in walking through the dining room it was insanely noisy. So noisy in fact that I don't think I would come to this restaurant unless I sat on the patio, even though it is spectacular food. BTW, the even have blankets for those sitting in the patio area so don't be shy.

The main gripes I would have were the portions sizes and the service. Other than those two issues, really solid dinner and cocktail spot! Dinner was excellent except for the fairly scant portions (although I did see other dishes that were more sizeable). Service was poor. But I will definitely be back to try the highly recommended brunch menu!

This was our fifth time at Playa Provisions. We usually leave thrilled with our meal and experience. It was one of our favorite restaurants and worth the drive out of the South Bay bubble. Sadly, our meal and service on Tuesday was subpar. My husband's meal was salty and cold (crab legs and corn...for the price it should have at least been warm). Fish tacos and clam chowder were both excellent. But the strawberry donut dessert (the reason I was so eager to return) was too salty, and hardly had any strawberries. The service was beyond awful. No attention to detail, drinks took 20-30 minutes to be served, dishes basically tossed at us, dirty dishes left sitting on the table for a long time...and more. This is not a diner or low cost establishment where some of these transgressions would be overlooked or even expected. Having dined at Playa Provisions serveral times before, I had much higher expectations for this most recent visit and my group was quite disappointed. We loved sitting on the patio, though. The restaurant is lovely.

Our visit was a perfect blend of indoor and outdoor eating. We ate at the fire pit, which they kindly let upon our request. It was getting a little chilly and that made it perfect. The sun was setting. The food was unique and delicious and appropriately priced. We would recommend it highly.

I took a date here on a Saturday night. My reservation was honored & we were seated immediately. I really enjoyed the service and people-watching the crowd - very beautiful people the later it got!
I was somewhat disappointed at the fairly limited selection of non-carnivore items, though the grilled broccoli was outstanding!! The cauliflower steak was good, but could benefit from mimicking the preparation that the broccoli received. I had great expectations for the lobster roll, perhaps too great: it was not particularly flavorful: the bread (which was similar to a Hawaiian sweet, white bread) was the main flavor.
I'm happy to recommend Playa Provisions & try more items on the menu.

Playa Provisions provides a much needed fine dining spot on in Playa del Rey. Easy to access with ample parking the food is consistently delicious. The bar easily keeps up with the quality of the menu including an impressive whiskey list. With the restaurant being on the beach this is also a great restaurant to to entertain out of towners.

I would note that service when the restaurant is busy can be a bit spotty. Plan on enjoying time to chat with your table and sip cocktails as the food can be a little slow in arriving.

I was looking for a place to eat after arriving home on a flight from LAX and was thrilled to be reminded of this spot by the OpenTable mobile app. The restaurant focuses on seafood and, while we dined there on a Monday, we abandoned conventional wisdom that you shouldn't have seafood on that day of the week. It worked out just fine. We started with fresh raw oysters to totally fly in the face of that rule, and we enjoyed them immensely. We also shared the
Connecticut Crab Roll with drawn butter and Crispy Rock Shrimp Balls. We each indulged in a Crab Claw "Pop", and for something with some greens shared the Seafood Louis Salad, which was simply amazing--the house dressing was light, vibrant and tasty. To seal the deal, we finished with some freshly-fried cake doughnuts. Playa Provisions is now my go-to choice for drinking and dining near LAX, any time of day.

Stumbled onto this place via Yelp but quickly recognized the name from Top Chef and confirmed it was indeed Brooke's restaurant. Immediately I figured 'Top Chef, expensive, too nice, probably not good for kids..." but that is wrong on all accounts. Love the concept and think it is very fitting of the location because it's perfect for a good meal by the beach, or just a cocktail at the bar by the beach or to walk in for ice cream by the beach. It is unusual to do more than one thing well but these all blend together seamlessly. Moral of the story - go and enjoy, it won't break the bank and you can wear shorts and even bring your kids in with sandy feet.

awesome experience. Great vibe. Our group basically shared everything!

We tried some small plates- pretzel buns and sweet potato bites. Both stellar! Main dishes with sides - cauliflower (super tender) could have used a bit more roasting) wonderful pea sauce - Fish and chips - really yummy, salt and pepper calamari with shrimp, clams - good but missing the taste of salt and pepper. would like them to have more punch of flavor but very generous serving - Tostones and potatoes - super yummy! Patty melt - our least favorite. just kind of boring and tasteless. Great drink selection and appreciated the wonderful non alcohol options as well.

We loved sitting outside and the mexican blankets. Felt as close to the beach without sitting on the beach! Definatly would recommend to a friend and will return.
