About Play Bar & Grill - White Oaks Resort & Spa
One of our founding pillars at White Oaks is our belief in living a healthy, well balanced life. Through every facet of our business at White Oaks Resort & Spa we endeavour to improve human performance whether it involves your body, mind, or even your business and career. At PLAY Bar & Grill we had the opportunity to provide some classic dishes with a twist of healthy. You’ll see whole grains and whole wheat options as well as new ingredients that enhance old favourites and change them to healthier options. Our Play menu complements your efforts in the gym or on the court all in an urban environment that is interesting and family friendly. While we are serious about healthy living, and providing a healthy menu we’ve had fun putting PLAY together and we do realize that no matter what we put on the menu, there will be some that will still want their “fun food” and heaven forbid, white bread! We encourage you to make Play a regular dining spot.

Play Bar & Grill - White Oaks Resort & Spa Ratings and Reviews
This was Play’s second chance. We had horrible service last time we went. As it is a neighbourhood restaurant, we wanted to give it another the chance for a Friday night “ go to” place. The food was very good again. But the experience was terrible with appalling service. The manager took our wine off the bill by way of apology but never even came by our table. We will not go here again.
Good service. Server had difficulty making suggestions. Good sandwiches but a restaurant in a hotel of this caliber should be able to make their own chicken fingers. VERY DISAPPOINTING. Fries were cold and salads were very overdressed. Less is more. The restaurant is in the hotel and in the middle of the coldest week on record, I guess you don’t have much choice. Next time will battle the cold and venture outside the hotel.
We came for our one-year anniversary, and selected the restaurant because of it's reasonable prices and vegetarian options. We were very well-taken care of, and the ambience was better than I was expecting. While the food itself left a bit to be desired (their panzanella salad was essentially a greek salad with basil and a side of olive bread, and the power bowl - though we substituted quinoa for rice because of an allergy - lacked vibrancy or depth). The portions were generous, and we had an enjoyable night.
The food was very good. The service was subpar at best. It took 20 minutes for our waitress to take our food order, this may have had something to do with her talking to other waitresses near the hostess booth. The manager made a mistake and put bleu cheese with my baked potato so I was given a new potato. Sadly, I was still charged an additional cost for the potato because it was a substitution for french fries. I think that the manager, who was very nice and apologetic, could have at least deducted the cost for the substitution.
I've eaten at Liv several times while staying at White Oaks as a guest and Liv is always incredible, but I've never eaten at Play Urban Cafe. We drove down from the GTA for lunch with family and Play did not disappoint!
Play is a bit more laid back, (and open for lunch) but everything from the food to the wonderful wait staff were top notch with the quality and attention to detail that you get to expect from White Oaks.
A great place to eat at the White Oaks Resort without the higher prices of their dinning room. The server was very friendly and informative. Food was excellent. The pasta of the day had a true Mediterranean taste. My margarita was made with real lime juice and not a lime "mix" - tart and refreshing.
Had a lovely meal. Décor was soothing and beautiful. View of the tennis courts not really my thing but the sheers were drawn so only a little distracting. Food was delicious. Server Sophie was a gem. This was a casual dinner. The crust on the Butter Tart dessert was amazing!!!! Price was quite reasonable and we left full and happy.
The nachos looked great but the cheese made it tasteless. Try using shaper cheese.
Mahi Mahi tacos were good but by the time I picked one up it was completely soggy from the corn and bean side which was very tasty.
Overall, food was disappointing but service was very good.
Ate at Urban Play Cafe before a performance at the Shaw Festival. The manager seated us and checked on us throughout our meal. Our server was very attentive and our meals arrived at just the right time. Bot entrees were delicious and healthy. Our table over looked the tennis courts which would have made for a spectacular experience if there had been games being played.
