"The first and greatest of necessities is food, which is the condition of life and existence.” – Plato’s Republic, Book 2
Excellent food and prompt, courteous service. Beautiful dining area with mountain views, including a gorgeous sunset. We will definitely return and recommend the experience to others.
Gone downhill from a couple of years ago when it was great. Food mediocre, not creative, over-sauced, often over-salted.
All 4 entrees were under cooked and tough.
Excellent food, very nice waiter, fair prices for such a very nice restaurant. Beautiful view. Not noisy at all. Would definitely be excited to go there again!
One of the only quiet rooms left in Aspen plus great outdoor dining on the terrace. Started with a tasty duck prosciutto salad and had scallops for the main course. Both attractive and tasty. The chocolate cake for dessert a a bit disappointing but overall we were pleased with the meal and service.
Excellent service. Very personal but still discrete. Cocktails and wine were fabulous. Dinner was delicious, topped all the restaurants we went to that week. Appreciated the complimentary shuttle back to downtown.
excellent in every way.highly recommended for everyone
Plato's is in our view one of the very best restaurants in Aspen. Located in the Aspen Meadows Resort adjacent to the Aspen Institute, about 10 minutes from the Gondola (and I think that you can pick up their shuttle at Belly Up and the Jerome Hotel and one more location in town), everyone there is incredibly friendly, with none of the stuffiness that you get at the "hot" "high end" eateries in town. We usually eat there a few times while we're in Aspen, and we have never had a bad meal, or a bad experience. Last night, after attending a violin concert by Simone Porter at the Aspen Institute's beautiful Harris Concert Hall, the hotel picked us up at the front door for the short drive to the resort, where our table had been held waiting even though we were a little late (due to well-deserved encores). We shared a raviolo appetizer from their winter menu - fantastic; and Cindy had the venison [perfect] and I had the sea trout [excellent].
Very quiet with an excellent view of the stars and crescent moon.
Food was delicious but two of us who had the short rib were surprised that it was not served hot enough.
Platos is usually a very good restaurant... but on this occasion the food presentation and quality was below par
We drove thru a snowstorm, it was well worth it. The food was creative, beautifully displayed and delicious. We would do it again
Food is very good, although the portion size does not give much value for the price. Service is good, though not "fine dining" quality. Overall a good place to go for good food, it's nice to break away from the downtown and enjoy the view this restaurant has.
Simply, the best restaurant in Aspen. The quality and inventiveness of the dishes on the menu is astonishing.
A little bummer that we we're not able to try their dessert but overall it was really delicious. They have great customer service as well. Definitely will come back in the future if ever we're in town. We loved the experience going to Plato's.
Open Table's categories do not include "great food" as a reason for recommending. But it is in fact great food, beautiful view, and friendly ambience.
We love to go to Plato's because of the quiet ambiance. It is one of the few restaurants in town where you can actually hear all the people at the table speak. And the food is imaginative and very good.
Plato's is truly a gem. Quiet, good food, excellent service, outstanding views of the mountains and ski area and, best of all, away from the hubbub of the down town.
Outside the hustle bustle of downtown aspen where restaurants are often overrated and noisy.
It has a very lovely view and the food is delicious
We were quite disappointed with our Plato's experience. The service was horrible from the moment we ordered at the bar all the way through our meal. It took at least three people to get us a drink that we originally ordered at the bar. I ordered the yellowtail tuna appetizer and it came as regular tuna with no mention of the swap when I ordered. My husband was offered more bread and then it never came. The service was definitely off.
Fine quality dining but insufficient vegetarian choices. A restaurant of this caliber needs more than one vegetarian entree on the menu - or be willing to create another dish.
Plato's is a wonderful place, quiet, excellent views, out of the hubbub of central Aspen (they do have a shuttle to pick up and deliver folks), excellent wait staff, good wines and terrific food. This time of year the outdoor dining is great with unending views up into Aspen Highlands ski area. It can be crowded during Aspen Institute activities like the Ideas Festival. Make reservations in advance.
First night back open after snow season. Big event downstairs, but the dining room was lovely. Food was very good, and the chef came out to check on our level of satisfaction - we had requested GF and Dairy free - easily accomodated at dinner, but alas, no dessert. The rose by the glass was bland, but the sauvignon blanc that was suggested was lovely.
Ideal, quiet, excellent food and service. Perfect spot to share an evening with the long light and wonderful views up to Highlands ski area.
Excellent food in a superb (and very chill) setting. Perfect spot for a romantic dinner while watching the sun set. We shared the elk tartare, scallops, gem wedge, and duck breast. All were excellent, but the tartare and duck breast were the stars of our meal. We weren't starving, which was good because the portions are on the small side. But the quality is excellent! This place is a keeper. Also, free shuttle back and forth to downtown Aspen makes it completely stress free, even without a car.
Great place! Amazing foid ambiance and atmosphere. And what a view!
We loved our dining experience at Plato's! The staff were extremely courteous and knowledgeable. The food was exquisite - the head chef personally checked in on us to make sure that our experience was satisfying. Highly recommend!
The ideal dinner spot in Aspen for a quiet time with quests and for outstanding food. The service is always excellent. The dining room is well appointed with Herbert Bayer art and the tables are not jammed together. Dinner for two or for many - it is ideal especially if you want to have a quiet conversation.
Absolutely charming - the best dining experience we have had in years in Aspen.
This restaurant stands out above any other in Aspen, from the experience we had. This chef is on top of his game, everything was exceptional. There is nothing I wouldn't have ordered on the menu and we look forward to coming back soon. The waitress was so helpful and enthusiastic about her place of employment, one of the best servers we have encountered in Aspen. Don't miss this hidden gem.
Exquisite in every area ~ Food, Atmosphere, Service, View. High End in Every Way.
Staff friendly and attentive without being overbearing. Lovely view and nice outdoor seating. Food is very good and attractively presented with reasonable portion sizes. If you want to be able to have a quiet conversation with your dinner companion, this is the place.
We enjoyed every aspect of our dinner. The wait staff were excellent - providing guidance on the menu and served everything perfectly to order.
One of the most beautiful views we've seen at an Aspen restaurant. The food was incredible, better than we expected. Venison was the best I've ever had, by far. Highly recommend it. Great wine list- they chose quality wines at good prices rather than loading the wine list with lots of unimpressive expensive ones. They have four unusual wines that we love and rarely find in a restaurant. Very nice outdoor patio for drinks before dinner when the weather is nice, but I really wish they would put comfy high top tables and chairs on the patio, rather than uncomfortable metal chairs that leave a mark on your leg. Overall, I highly recommend it.
The view here over the Aspen Meadows is lovely and if you go at sunset you are in for a real treat. Otherwise, our dinner was below the level of many Aspen restaurants. To start, our drinks (gimlet, old fashioned) were just... blah. It seemed like the bartender was new to the job. For dinner, it took a while for the staff to figure out who was going to serve us. We started with the recommended egg/brioche salad, and it was honestly a little underwhelming. Not bad, but could have used more seasoning. The tuna tartare appetizer was pretty good, though my preference would be for a different toast than the crispy soy crackers with which it was served. But, no matter, still enjoyable. For our entrees we had the halibut (good) and the short-rib. The latter was like the salad... okay, but nothing that would make me want to return to the restaurant. So, our overall feel was that for the same prices, we can find many better meals in town... but go to the restaurant for a glass of wine, at least, and the view.
We loved it, we will be back often. The food is Great! Service is Great! Awesome night out!
We had one of the best experiences at Plato's. The food was fabulous. The service impeccable. The scenery was stunning. This is a real gem.
Really tasty and thoughtfully prepared and presented dishes! And lunch on the large open air porch overlooking Castle Creek far below..is awesome!
Amazing!! Platos is a hidden Gem. GREAT VEGETARIAN/ Healthy options. Chefs club and Platos are top.
The view alone makes it worth going, so it's good to be there before the sun goes down, which gives a good window in the summer. the menu, however, is limited to choices of complicated dishes, with not one choice of something simply prepared or grilled. There is not one simple salad. Because of this, probably not a place to take the family. Portions are quite small, which is ok, as most restaurants serve too much food on each plate. Service was good and servers were pleasant.
The chef has produced a varied and very delicious menu. Clearly one of the best delivered meals in Aspen.
