About
So, this was my 6th or 7th visit to Plates and every time before the meal was excellent, but not tonight. The four of us ordered oysters and they were clearly shucked earlier in the day and by the time they arrived at our table they were dried out. I expect oysters to be moist and briny not damp and sticky.
As for the entrees, the fried chicken was outstanding, but the rest of us ordered fish, 2 steelhead and 1 scallops. The preparation of the fish itself was perfect but the sauce and puree overwhelmed. Fish ought to be simple and clean, not overly adorned. The deserts were good and were a welcome end to a meal that was overly complicated.
I might go back, but I think Plates is played out.
The tables in the rear of the restaurant are nice and private, no noise level
Consistent reliable and relaxing with an eclectic menu.
I don’t know what happened here. I used to like this place, but it’s gone south fast. Note to owner: not great hearing music interrupted by radio ads. Kind of wrecks the mood.
Excellent food and service
Chef and waiter were v intent on accommodating our guest/ friend’s particular food requirement with a wonderful preparation that she thoroughly enjoyed.
I love Plates. Intimate quiet setting with excellent food and service. The menu is diverse and there is something for everyone. Complimentary fresh baked sticky buns is a plus.
Excellent, interesting food and fine service and atmosphere.
Always a good meal there whether with family or friends. Have tried many things on the menu and they are all delicious. Service can be slow, but it's never a reason not to return!
Eclectic menu with healthy options. Quaint decor. Outstanding service. I would highly recommend Plates.
We have been to plates many times and enjoyed the food. However, this time was the most awful food, the service was good, but the food was terrible. We will never go back. As I understand the restaurant is for sale and they don’t care about the food anymore. It’s sad to ruin their reputation!!!
The food and service were good, but the food crusted dirty menus were a real turn-off to two diners in the restaurant business who know how dirty menus are even without visible food stains.
Disappointed there were no GF offerings for vegetarians. Had a salad and Brussel sprouts.
Also, was expensive for the value.
Absolutely delicious meal at Plates - we will be back for sure. Hubby had steak tartare appetizer and loved it; my short rib tacos were to die for! For mains he had a pastrami short rib situation that was bonkers good, and I had the fried chicken and I'm sad the Brussels sprouts aren't still on a plate in front of me - all just so flavorful! We don't always get cocktails but he got one with a cheeky name (topless?) that was fruity and okay, and then we both had a John Daly with sweet tea vodka! For dessert he ordered the Larchmonster which we took home and shared with our son - ridiculous portion but intended that way. I had the cinnamon ice cream over donuts which were so fresh and delicious. Totally great experience. Our waiter, whose name I am embarrassed to have forgotten, was lovely and gave us great guidance on the menu. A super evening!
Again, I can't say enough about this restaurant. It is worth the trip from anywhere in lower Westchester, CT, the Bronx, even further away. Unbelievably fresh wholesome menu. I'll be back!
This was our first experience at Plates, the restaurant is in a small house with a warm and friendly atmosphere and staff. The menu offers great variety and the food was delicious. The only complaint, and it was a busy Saturday night so I do somewhat understand, the service was slow. My family and I will definitely return to Plates.
Always love this place! Food is delicious, drinks are yum and such a relaxed atmosphere.
The food was terrific, farm to table. The place is dated. It could use an update. The staff should be a little more attentive, especially when guests walk in. Not especially clean; change the water in the flowers and clean the bathroom. The chef is creative.
I really do want to love Plates given that I live in the area, and have given them many opportunities, yet each and every time the experience is a disappointment. Booked a table for three Father's Day @$45 prix fixe brunch menu. Three courses. Very average offerings i.e. pizza, chicken sandwich, etc. I was willing to chalk it up to the fact that with brunch you always get the B-team chef but was not prepared for below B food. The capper to our meal was when one of our desserts came out with a hair on the plate (and everyone lost their appetite for their own desserts). While the waitress was apologetic, I would have expected a comped cup of coffee or mineral water. I had to point out that it would be a nice gesture on their part. they did remove $6 for coffee. In the end, it was a $188 brunch that was so below average and not a great way to spend Father's Day (apologies to my husband!)
Enjoyable as usual. Food is consistent. Feels like eating in the Hamptons.
Plates is one of my favorite places. Feels that everything is just right, great food, fantastic bread, beautiful and convenient location, wonderful service and just the right ratio of style to comfort.
Still the best food in the county. We enjoyed everything we had and the wonderful hospitality
The service has gotten consistently worse over the years. When the chef is not in the house, it is never as good as his presence make the staff snap to attention. The bar has become reliably slow. It is such a shame as it has been wonderful for over a decade but is now showing its age and staff clearly needs to be overhauled.
The food here is always amazing! Great service and atmosphere as well, excellent restaurant!
We love Plates, and the food is always great. But the bar service was extremely slow all night (we ate at the bar). Not sure if they were understaffed or what, but when we first got there, it took almost a half hour to get a drink.
This is only my fourth time eating at Plates, but each time my meal has been exceptional!
There is nothing more to say other than the word wow. What a gem. I found this place by accident and now it will be a weekly or even more of a place to visit. Try all the plates at plates . My waiter was amazing
We dined there on Saturday night. We were on time for our reservation and our table was not yet ready so we waited at the bar. There was only one person working behind the bar, and it was very busy. We got a drink after waiting a few minutes and were seated shortly after. It was down hill from there, our second drink did not arrive until our dinner did. They ran out of glasses. We ordered a bottle of wine but had to wait again because they had run out of wine glasses. They also ran out of several items on the menu. There were fruit flies all around our table and I watched a sever set a table with the silverware placed in reverse order. The food was so, so - entrees were on the salty side. It was actually comical how chaotic it was!
Table by the toilets. Cramped by a larger party. Stayed for awhile and was asked to give up seats to party with a reservation. Good food. Just not the right feel for me.
Plates is one of our favorites!! Great food: interesting specials, they don't cut corners on anything, and everything we had was absolutely delicious. And, the staff is friendly and helpful.
Plates is by far and away the best food in Westchester. Chef Matt does an amazing job. My pork chop was perfect, the tuna tartar and deviled eggs apps are to die for and the desserts are ridiculous.
We've been to Plates a few times. The food is always superb, as is ther service. I'll be back!
We enjoyed the very delicious dinner options at Plates. The Oysters are always one of our favorites. The scallops are perfectly cooked and the friend chicken and the pork loin chops were also a hit. One person ordered a simple burger and fries, and he was surprised at how much he enjoyed it.
We had a very nice waiter. Other staff very nice but a little experience. Food good not great.
Everyone had a wonderful time.
Consistently reliable and Wed free corkage makes it a bargain
Always interesting menu and great mix of tastes within the dishes.
Excellent as usual.
Quaint and romantic! Excellent service and food!
Been there before. Food going down. Saturday night and the flowers were dead so remove them. Food was mediocre and not worth the price. Tacos were like sloppy joes not brisket and short ribs. Will not be going back soon
Always great!
