We sat at the bar. Beautiful cozy atmosphere. Great spot for a Winter evening dinner. We ate oysters, tuna tartare, scallops and Fried chicken, everything was delicious! We would go back!
We had an 8:00 reservation. The noise level was higher than our last visit. We asked to switch tables because we could not hear ourselves talk at the table where they sat us next to the bar. We all ordered starters and our main entrées. However, we felt very rushed by the staff. They brought out our entrées before we had even finished our starters. When we asked if they could please space out the courses so it wouldn’t be so rushed, our server asked that we tell him how much time we thought we’d need. We were astonished because it is the job of the server to gauge the timing of a meal, especially at a well-reputed restaurant like Plates. Two minutes later, another gentleman came to our table explaining that the kitchen closes at 9:30, the restaurant at 10:30, that there had been a reservation for the table (after the hostess had confirmed that it wasn’t reserved before seating us) and that they had to prepare the restaurant for an early event the next day. I’m sorry, but this shouldn’t have an effect on our dining experience, especially for an 8pm reservation. When the food came out, it was very good but now only lukewarm. The gentleman ended up apologizing for the reservation mix-up with the hostess and they topped off our wine free of charge. Even so, I have to say we left with an aftertaste of disappointment.
The salad was fine and the bread excellent, but my short ribs were somewhat disappointing. And the key lime pie was tasteless .
Very nice food in a comfortable and quaint environment. Everyone raved about their food and the service was attentive and nice.
As usual another fine meal. Plates is so good, we hardly ever leave Larchmont to eat great food. We tried another flat bread since we had 4 people, so good. The trout has a wonderful new preparation. Matt made it just as we requested - no salt. When a dish came with not mentioned balsamic vinegar to our allergic friend. No problem immediately exchanged.
Valentines special was one league below Plates magic. Maybe because we were among the last table, but all the magic was gone. Tasteless meat, cheap desert. Desappointed about the lack of sophistication. I recommended the place for Feb 14 to friends, fortunately nobody showed up...
Overbooked on Valentine's Day, forced into taking table adjacent to front door which was constantly opening and allowing cold air in. Tiny circular table was barely big enough to fit our drinks much less our dinner. The tables were basically on top of each other. Extremely uncomfortable and tight, it was like trying to eat dinner in a phone booth. Each time the waiter went by my date had to move her chair because there wasn't enough space for him to get by otherwise. Terrible experience.
We went on Valentines Day, which was a mistake. To capitalize of the occasion, they crammed in extra tables in a already-small venue, had a limited special menu and added on inexperienced staff. In an attempt to service the unusually large crowd, the food was mediocre at best and the service was abysmal. It appeared that one person was taking orders at a large number of tables and, from that point, the table was serviced by runners and busboys. Trying to find someone to replenish drink orders was nearly impossible and, once that was accomplished, the wait to actually get the drinks was interminable. Overall, it was an extremely disappointing experience.
As is their custom, they continue to have problems managing turn-over. For our 8:30PM sitting, we were not seated until 8:55PM. This has happened to us 75% of the time.
As always a great neighborhood venue with comfort food and relaxing ambiance and friendly efficient service. A consistent winner.
Dining at Plates is always a great expeeience! Great ambiance and my teenagers love the burgers!!
We were used to great dinner food at Plates; brunch on Sunday was more comfort food than gourmet fare. Good but not exceptional. Service was attentive and friendly and Plates remains one of the best dining options in Larchmont.
Food was delicious. It’s s lively restaurant. For the prices service should be better.
My husband and I have been going to Plates for years - it was our go-to date night spot. We were there on Saturday and the vibe felt off from the moment we were brought to our table:
-The greeter/seater asked us what kind of water we wanted before we even sat down
-There was a baby crying for half the meal - I am not one for no kids, but for these prices, I would have expected better
-I asked for my salmon to be cooked well - explaining that I know that is usually not the Chef's choice. Well I was right and the salmon came as I guess how the chef wanted to prepare it because it wasn't well done, at all.
-I asked for vanilla ice cream with the donuts and it came with the cinnamon. This is the second time this happened to me with this dessert. If it is not possible to make changes, the waiter should have said.
Overall, very disappointing and my husband and I left feeling like we may need to find a new date night spot.
Would recommend to all my local friends. It’s definitely a neighborhood gem.
