The host and maybe manager on duty kept watching our table to see when we were leaving. It was quite annoying as was the waitress who kept trying to refill our coffee, take our payment when we hadn’t even looked at the separate checks! I understand walk-ins, but there’s no reason you should rush guests with a reservation! The food was great!
Brunch was wonderful. I look forward to coming back very soon.
We love Plates. Their Sunday brunch is amazing. The burger is something you must try.
Always has an small menu of very good and well prepared options. Service is great.
The place lost its unique ambiance with the decor change, but the food and staff are both still warm and wonderful.
We've been coming to Plates for 4 years now! It's nice to sit at the bar, chat & eat, and the tables are comfortable to enjoy your meal as well!
My sister and I visited to celebrate her 21st birthday with brunch. The food was perfect and delicious and the mimosas were to die for! Such a cute little place with outdoor seating as well!
The food and cocktails were delicious. We had the shrimp & grits and the burger...both are excellent. The specialty mimosa was also very good. We had an initial issue with service. Wait staff walked around our table for at least 15 minutes with no one acknowledging we were there or stating they would be with us soon. Finally a waiter took our drink order and said our waitress would be with us soon. We finally had to ask her to take our order. From this point on she did a good job but it was frustrating to get to this point.
We had a really nice meal with good service!
Plates is always one of our favorites! The food & service never disappoint! In all the times we’ve been here, we have never had a meal we haven’t enjoyed.
Limited offering on Sunday. Menu does not look like anything on website.
It was great!
First visit to Plates. Great food, good prices, friendly and accommodating service. Arrived at opening for 11:00 reservation, dining room filled up fast. Service was well paced but not rushed. Outdoor seating on the patio with heaters was available but not many takers. It would be packed in nicer weather and I'd like to try it on my next visit.
The new brunch menu is incredible. Hands down, the brunch in town. I will be back next weekend.
Plates was a perfect place to celebrate Valentines Day! Great food and service!
Always a pleasure! We met friends for a joint birthday celebration - Plates did not disappoint. The dishes were amazing and the prices outstanding! The service was friendly and efficient. We'll come back again and again!
The food was wonderful and the staff was very friendly.
I am still raving about my meal that I had....it was simply delicious and the drinks were fantastic too. Bonus - they serve Fever Tree Tonic 100 BONUS POINTS!! We will be back - just fantastic!
Been here twice and both times really tasty results. Went for brunch only, and the breakfast type offerings are really nice. Second time we had the burger and hand cut fries, and a salad. The burger was very well done, but did have a bit of high end McDonald's type flavor with their sauce. The Caesar salad had a lemony dressing that was not our favorite, but it came with plenty of Kalamata olives! All in all a well worth it treat downtown, but prepare with pricey plates and a very young crowd. GREAT service every time...well done management!
Great place to have dinner. Good and service outstanding. Get the bone in pork chop. Wow!
Brunch was perfect! Such a great neighborhood spot that always has great food and service. I love the new decor! We look forward to coming back soon.
I always love the local flavor and changing menu of Plates. Service is kind and attentive. I was disappointed to have made a reservation this weekend and be seated nearly 30 minutes late. We had to wait outside in the cold and huddled around one heater that was heating a couple eating outside. They didn't offer us a drink or anything. Very strange. My partner was visiting from out of town and meeting the parents for the second time. It was a little hard to converse because it was so loud, but it was an OK experience. Great for rowdy friends, but not great for anything intimate, date-like, or an important lunch like this.
Brunch was very disappointing. The portions were small and bland. Bacon was the highlight.
We were pleasantly surprised with a most interesting menu, from starter (I recommend the cheese plate as it is to die for) to entree (I loved the New Mexico chili rub pork) and to the dessert (yum yum APPLE CRUMBLE !!!!!!!)
Our waitress was so energetic, yet professionally entertaining and attentive, and knowledgeable to a Tee.
The Chef (formerly from Heron's at the Umsted) delivered my drink and spent time with us (and I noted him doing the same with others) and actually walked us out the door when we finished.
I've really never seen such personal (but not over-bearing) service on top of spectacular food.
Great food, great ambiance! Parking can be a challenge but use WAZE to find a parking garage. Really nice staff. I gave a 4 on service just because they were a little disorganized however, it WAS restaurant week, they were just named runner up for restaurant of the year AND the weather was good enough to have outside seating which I guarantee they didn't plan for in January. Really liked this restaurant, we went before the symphony and it worked out great with our 6pm reservations.
The restaurant was just fine. Employees were kind and accommodating. We just were not fans of the actual food.
Great food and an excellent experience!
We went for restaurant week and had an awesome time. The food was great and our waitress was super fun. We are definitely going to come back soon!
Always look forward to dine at Plates.
Menu inspired, presentation awesome.
100% of experiences would rate 10 of 10!!
We all had a taste from each other's plates and appetizers. Toffee dessert was the best, then apple crisp. Loved the brussel sprouts app and the smoked flavored duck. Chicken pot pie was very good, but I do prefer more of a pastry crust.
Menu is regularly updated with curated meals. It feels like everything is a "chef's special". You'll never get bored eating here. 100% recommend!
enjoyed our first time there! Was a great brunch option before a day of hiking!
This review is tough bc I want to be polite and constructive. First, the bartender was super in his recommendations, tailoring and skill. Highly recommend Plates for he alone. Second, we moved to our table and things went slow and below expectations from there. Our waitress was incredibly polite, though forgetful. On more than three occasions we had to follow up on our wine glass orders (not complicated). Our food orders were recorded with little problem, but the delivery was looonnnggg. Thereafter, the porkchop was medium well (dry), the short-rib pint size in comparison to Raleigh single proprietor sites, and the chicken pot pie warm temp. We were surprised and ready to finish. Thus, no dessert on a bday outing. Plates can do better, I know it. I think we just got unlucky.
Waited to be seated 30 minutes after our reservation time. One bartender for a totally full restaurant. Service was friendly but slow. Portions seems to have gotten smaller than in the past.
Good service, but Chicken Pot Pie and mushroom pasta dish were too salty,
Great find of a restaurant. We will certainly be back for a second experience. Service was great and the food was excellent.
Very helpful staff, excellent food. We enjoyed the experience.
Scratch made goodness at every turn. Go and go and go and go again...
Great food, excellent service. We sat at the bar and the bar tender was engaging, interesting and fun. Excellent beer selection. We’ll come back for sure
Quaint atmosphere. Owner was pleasant. Nice environment. Host was welcoming and friendly.
