We went early and enjoyed the ambiance. Food was great and innovative. Autumn salad was wonderful, although I do recommend ordering the warm bacon balsamic dressing on the side. The lemon tart was perfect.
The food was excellent, the ambience was great, the staff were very pleasant.
Great food cooked to perfection! We chose this place for our anniversary and we were very pleased with it! The only negative(which was minor) was the server. She was a bit quiet and seemed as thought she didn’t really like her job. Other than that, I would highly recommend it and come back again the next time we’re in town!
I would say this the best place to eat in Saint Joseph.
Way over priced. We were also crammed together no elbow room at all.
Such a nice dining experience! Food, drink and service were great and the live piano player was fabulous0
Pleasant experience but not especially memorable. Definitely would return. The food was good, and our server was very nice.
11 of us, young adults through seniors, celebrated my son’s 24th birthday there. We found there was something for everyone and the complimentary surprise birthday dessert was spectacular! Everyone had good things to say about their food choices. Will dine there again.
We went for brunch on a Saturday. The staff was friendly. My husband had the chicken and biscuits. If you don’t like spicy ask for no sauce. I had the corned beef hash. It was delicious. All of the food was fresh. We will definitely be going back.
Great food and super nice staff.
Wait staff was responsive and very pleasant.
We have now learned to ask about spice level. With a chef, they like to make things unique. The squash soup was excellent but too spicy for one of us. The vanilla gelato helped to melt away the issue. Overall felt safe from Covid issue and was a pleasant experience inside next to the window to look out.
Autumn pasta was incredible. Wagyu burger cut like butter.
Very nice place. Over the years the food is hit or miss. Last 2 times here the food was over cooked and some burnt. Good drinks. Usually great atmosphere.
New menu! Delicious food! Great service! Friendly atmosphere!
Food was great. Service for dinner was mediocre at best. Just seemed disorganized but given the current situation it’s understandable
The prices have doubled in the past few years we've been going there. $15.00 for Bacon and Eggs is crazy. For that price I would expect a bowl of fruit with it or something but the prices are just way too high.
The servers were great considering covid and that I know many of them were new but they did a great job. While we will continue to go to enjoy the outdoor water views I do NOT recommend to friends because of the prices. We can afford to pay them but I've gotten as good a meal for half the prices - even less than half the price.
Went there for brunch yesterday. Good food and good service.
We went there to celebrate a new job. Server was attentive but not overbearing. Drinks were excellent and used local liquor/beer/wine. Food was good, portions were not large- which was fine for me, somewhat overpriced for the area and the menu was not cohesive--the same carrots that were served with the chicken were served with the mushroom potstickers. It was nice that they had vegetarian selections. We had a reservation, but the staff was unprepared for our arrival and seemed surprised that we showed up. The original seats at the table were dirty with a piece of tomato wedged in the seating of the booth. They had a 3 piece group playing in the lobby improvisational jazz and the riffs were distracting and loud-we had to move.
The vibe was just off in general....is it a bar, is it a restaurant, is it a lounge, a locals hangout? hard to tell. With a few tweaks this could be a great place, but don't think we will be back anytime soon.
I'll start with the food was very good and our waiter was great, but the whole experience was ruined by the interactions with the "hostess" and management. We had requested an outside table, but upon arriving the unfriendly, mumbling hostess (who didn't greet us or make eye contact) informed us that no outside tables were available, but if we wanted to wait 10 minutes and no tables were available then, our reservation would be cancelled. There were clearly unoccupied tables outside and we would have been willing to wait longer, but according to her, they don't allow waiting and don't keep a waitlist (what a short-sighted loss of revenue). We tried talking to the shift manager, but she was no more helpful. We ultimately sat in the room by the fireplace - the whole thing feels more like a hotel breakfast/lunch room than a cozy dinner spot - the too bright white canned lights and lack of warm decor in the dining room definitely don't help. It's too bad because the food seems to be getting better and better, but the host stand staff are terrible.
It is very nice to have outdoor seating overlooking the water. The atmosphere is very relaxed.
Open table requested information and I mentioned that it was our anniversary. The restaurant did not use the information. Sad. At first, the wait staff was pleasant. We were judged because we wore masks. We asked about spice in the food then it went down hill from there. We realize spice is subjective however the after burn in my mouth was not. We did not receive a water refill. No cross sell on desert even. Had to ask for the check after a 20 minute wait and experiencing four times that the wait staff walked by waiting on other tables without eye contact.
Happy Anniversary less a C note.
Our server was very polite and professional. He was attentive to us as well. Great service!
Service very slow
There has been a significant change to the management of Planks since my last visit about 2.5 years ago. We were greeted enthusiastically, seated promptly and presented with imaginative cocktail and food menus. Our server and the entire staff made us feel comfortable and welcome. Give Planks a try!
Dined on the outside patio overlooking the St Joseph River
Lovely ambience. Good food.
The staff helped to make our celebratory brunch special!
The wagu burger was one of the best burgers I've ever had. If I'm ever back in St. Joe this will be my first stop, will not need to look at the menu.
A bit out of the way, but pretty easy to access and worth a bit of a drive. Outdoor patio was a great place for a business lunch on a beautiful fall afternoon. Would be helpful if they used some traps or other abatement to get rid of wasps, however.
We were pleased to find gluten-free items on the menu. Also as meat-eaters, we tried the black bean burger and Kim's veggie enchilada both of which we enjoyed.
The food was tasty and we were surprised that we did not miss the meat.
We had a lovely table overlooking the St. Joe's river. The food was good and we had a very enjoyable dinner.
Planks is our go-to when we have company in town. Always excellent service and a true luxury resort vibe. It’s generally visitors favorite stop on their trip and we love it too!! Have never had a “miss” on a meal.
the hostess was very helpful we had a large group with three separate reservations and she was able to have all sit near each other. The waitress was excellent
Would not recommend this place. Hostess was harried and did not acknowledge us despite coming to the stand where we we’re patiently waiting many times . Restaurant was busy but not packed plenty of open tables indoors. Manager came up and asked if we had reservations which we did to which he informed us good thing because no more tables. He seated us in the middle of at least four open tables. The half dozen parties behind us which all said they had no reservations were then immediately seated after we sat down
View looked like rock quarry and some heavy machinery.
Food was just ok- a bit pricey. I Had avocado toast lox and bagel. The avocado was a huge pile dropped on the top of the toast and was not fresh - oddly seasoned. Lox portion was skimpy. Hubby had eggs over easy and hash browns both of which were nicely cooked/ hash browns were crispy. Waitress - Hanna was not very attentive, we sat 10-15 minutes before she showed up- took order checked after ordered dropped off never came back to refill coffee and gave check.
I enjoy the patio at Planks, but I don’t understand why when their coffee flights are so popular they are not part of Planks menu. You have to go to the Rise & Vine Coffee shop and order them and wait for them to arrive. In our case, we were well more then half way through our meal when they arrived and we ordered them immediately after ordering or food. Also after the checks were paid our server never came back to ask if we needed anything or to fill our water. It was clear she was done with us and we were overstaying our welcome.
A perfect late summer place for lunch with friends outside. Good food and attentive service. Our server, Monica, kept her good humor and professional demeanor throughout.
Great food great place
Great place with excellent service and tavern nautical atmosphere. Inside a hotel but not crowded and has slight resort feel in St. Joe Michigan. Brunch type food at noon was tasty. Had six in party and waiter was great.
Very good server. Can’t recall his name but very attentive without being pushy. Good food and outside seating.
