Its approachable modern menu, home-style seating, and waterfront location takes inspiration from the place it's in, the people who live here, and the past it comes from. We offer indoor and outdoor seating, outdoor seating is available on a first come, first served basis and cannot be reserved through Open Table, although every effort will be made to accommodate your seating preferences. Per the State of Michigan's guidelines, masks are required for all guests when walking through the restaurant until you are seated at your table.

The wait for food was absolutely ridiculous, I’m not sure if the server forgot our order or what but we waited 20 min for drinks to begin with- the hostess brought us water and then not a peep from anyone for 20 min! Then we waited an hour for our food. We had reservations for 6:15 and didn’t get out of there until 8:15 which was a bit too long. The food was mediocre for what we paid and how long we waited. We have had a similar experience in the past with Planks (and never said anything) so I’m not sure how often we will put the restaurant in our rotation.
Always 5 stars
Thank you for providing a safe and special place to celebrate our anniversary.
The host and server were great. The food was definitely not that good. We ordered the soup, shrimp, omelette and steak. The steak breakfast was good and so was the omelette. But the soups and shrimp were not that good. Overall it was a nice place.
Food was excellent! Patrick our waiter was wonderful. Ate there for dinner and had brunch the next day as well. Great food at both meals. Will return every time we come into town
Amazing service from Pat the bartender who was our server. The cook came out to see how we enjoyed our meal as well. Very great food and service.
Great food. Excellent service. Upscale atmosphere.
Shelby our server was amazing. She was attentive and brought out food and drinks in great time.
We had a really nice dinner. Were staying in the hotel, and decided to eat in. We had a lovely table overlooking the harbor. We were greeted promptly, I had fish and chips, bf had the ribs which he was happy with. They were “fall off the bone” as promised although he reported the meat was somewhat stringy. They seem to have a good variety a different price points, so it felt like there was something for everyone. Nice wine list although I had beer. Felt like they did a nice job keeping things clean and distancing for COVID precautions. Finished up in their bar which was also very good.
Breakfast on the deck was amazing.
Never a bad meal! Sit back, relax and enjoy your time. Don’t be in a hurry, food is made to order
Excellent! Many good choices on the menu and the specials list—we need (and definitely want) to come back. Great experience!
Nice Sunday brunch spot. Awesome location, great prices and value.
Great service. Excellent crab cakes and drink selection.
This establishment is great for any occasion! Relaxing with friends or dinner out with the family! The food and service are amazing! Highly recommend
shrimp and grits was amazing for brunch, walked in at 1040 on a sunday and was told they were not taking any walk ins till 1200, went online and made reso for 1100, and then went back in was sat right away.
The food and service was very good. Interesting location and even though "on the river", not the best or scenic views. Overall it was a great experience and if in the area again, would go back.
Service was sloooow. fish and chips were awesome but rest of food was just ok.
We were disappointed at first because I had requested outdoor seating (for obvious reasons!), but when we arrived, they said it was first come first served for the patio.
Fortunately, the table the four of us received was large, and, because the door to the patio was opening often, well-ventillated.
I wish I could remember the name of our server on that evening, but he was adorable and so accommodating. (Trim, blondish, glasses.)
Excellent Old Fashions, wonderful tomato and garlic soup and iceberg wedge salad.
My husband said the fish and chips was "okay."
Overall, because of the setting by the water and the excellent service we had an enjoyable time.
The setting is fabulous and the menu is fantastic. Unfortunately, our food was cold when we got it; good, just cold. Most frustrating was that our server was inattentive.
While visiting Michigan wine country we stayed at The INN at Harbor Shores in St. Joseph, MI and had dinner at the restaurant on the property - Plank's Tavern - we started with soup - my husband had the Chicken Tortilla and I had the Tomato Garlic -then we had the pecan crusted walleye and the wedge salad - everything was excellent. We will definitely be back and do recommend staying and dining at this facility.
We were very disappointed with our meals, the service, and the experience overall. While my food was so spicy I could barely eat it, my husbands food was bland, it could have passed for toast. We did enjoy the appetizer and our drinks, and the view is lovely. But, overall, for what we paid (an app, 2 drinks, 2 meals, and dessert cost us almost $100), there are better places.
Menu included specials - nice selection of cocktails. Loud hum from the bar. Heaters on the porch at dinner. We enjoyed the mussels with chorrizo and onions, the seafood pot pie and we were stuffed. Very fun.
Food was wonderful - highly recommend the seafood pot pie. Server checked on us once, never offered more drinks. Disappointing.
Jazz music on Thursday night was a great touch! We had the sea trout and scallops and both were very good. Service by Alicia was good too.
The food was great and our server was awesome we really had a great time
We were seated outside and had no wait due to our reservation. It was beautiful out and we got our drinks quickly. The food took 1 and 1/2 hours though. My food was room temperature when it got to me and tasted just okay, which the price was high for what it was. The staff “compensated” our long wait time by giving us our bread for free (a $5 value). We were visiting from out of state and am sad we used up a whole night for slow service and expensive, mediocre food.
Pro: Great ambience (lake view, lighting, noise level). Main entrees where great.
Cons: Took around 45 minutes to get our entrees after ordering them. The Mexican corn on the cob was waterlogged and nobody asked how was everything. Took awhile to get appetizer plates after appetizers came out.
Service terrible, food great
Great dinner! Tables spaced nicely for Covid. Waiter pleasant and prompt and the food and drinks wonderful. We done here often and will return again soon!
Food was great but overall service should be elevated!
We were looking forward to sitting outside to eat while overlooking the water and we were disappointed this did not happen after we requested outdoor seating 1 week before the reservation date. The hostess was rude and said there was no outdoor seating at that time and she would not even allow us to wait for outdoor seating. Then the waiter was not friendly and didn’t even introduce himself to us and my salad was oozing salad dressing so much it was sliding out of my mouth as I ate it and all I could taste was salad dressing. At this point, I was ready to leave but we had drove such a long way to spend the day in st Joseph and eat outside. The waiter brought my 4 yo son a cup of water not in a kids cup like the other waitress did for the table next to us. Very disappointed with this whole experience.
Our brunch was delicious! The outdoor patio is lovely, though the chairs were not super comfortable. Overall, we had a nice time. My only complaints would be that the tables need to be spaced apart more to comply with social distancing, and our waiter absolutely ignored my need for a drink refill. He actually filled my husbands coffee twice while my iced tea glass sat empty.
Unfortunately, we had a rough first experience at Plank’s. After being seated, we waited anout 30 minutes without being greeted. I went to ask the host if a server could come by and get our drink and appetizer orders. After finally being seen by our server, we immediately put in drink orders and also ordered the Breads and Spreads appetizer (which turned out to be the best thing we ate all night). Those took a decent amount of time, but not terrible. After placing our order for our meals (Fish & Chips, Scallops, and a Black Bean Burger), we waited about 45+ minutes for our food to arrive. The food was just okay... nothing to rave about. We decided that although the service was slow, we’d stay and order dessert. We ordered Ice Cream with a Bourbon topping from Journeyman and a slice of the cake. We waited over 30 minutes... for ice cream and pre-made cake. While we were waiting for our dessert, we noticed the table next to us had been waiting a LONG time for their food also. After awhile, the back of the house manager came out to let them know the kitchen was out of their food. Keep in mind, it had been probably 45+ minutes since they placed their order... and they were JUST informed that the kitchen didn’t have their food. I’m not one to write a negative review based off of one experience, so I’m going to keep an open mind and hope for a better trip if we choose to visit again.
I had great food and great service, unique and local ingredients. Would recommend to friends and family.
Had a reservation. Hostess had no clue ab it!!Was out anniversary-notated under our reservation, again hostess had no clue!!
Best thing ab this experience was the kind waitress who was very engaging and efficient.
Great food, although no need to smother corn with cheese! Everything else was excellent!
The view of the water and the general ambiance is very pretty! We enjoyed our brunch on a perfect fall day. The waiter was professional, but there were a few slip ups in the service such as room temperature coffee and no sauce serviced on the shrimp and grits. The waiter corrected the issues and it did not detract from our enjoyment. The food we ordered was shrimp and grits and eggs benedict. The portions were large and good, but not amazing.
Celebrating a birthday . The food was fantastic, ambiance was great. Our server was a little bit overwhelmed but we managed. We wrapped up our brunch had a couple more drinks near the water. My young sons picked up the tab as a birthday gift for, which I might add was very happy. One thing I will say is the manager approached me towards the end asking me if why I didn’t leave the serving a bigger tip! How dreadful of him! Our bill was over $200. Mind you I said my two very young sons treated me and paid the bill. Now this manger put my sons in an embarrassing position. How disgusting of this manger and appalling of this establishment. Never have I ever been anywhere where I had such an awful experience. I told my sons they did nothing wrong. Never again will I dine at this place. How rude after having had such a fantastic brunch. This manager should be retrained in hospitality and customer service.
