Has to wait quite awhile to get food. First restaurant I’ve ever been to that bread and butter was NOT a complimentary. We ended up ordering it bc food was taking so long. There were 6 of us and about half had good food. Two meals were bland. Bar was cool and there was a great bartender that we met after dinner. View of water wasn’t cool

Whenever I have visited St. Joseph's in the last year, I have brought my guests here to dine.
The food is terrific...especially the fish entrees! The service has been hit or miss and that is too bad since I was raving about Planks to my friends. We had a drink at the bar to start and on this evening we had Hailey and some other guy I didn't bother asking his name. Forgetful, not friendly, asked me 3 times what my mom was having and I said virgin Pina Colada 3 times. How hard is that to remember? Asked me for a card to start a tab(they won't let you transfer drinks to your dinner tab) and I had already given it to him. I must mention that we were 3 of only 6 people at the bar at that time and the restaurant was not full.
Our saving grace that evening was Kyle( he was definitely over worked and made to take tables both inside and outside while we were there) Due to this we had to wait quite awhile to reorder drinks and get our dinner but he comped a drink and the bred(which you have to pay for here) and remembered to bring me my birthday dessert on the house.
All said and done, I will return because the food really is that good and there are not a lot of comparable restaurants in St. Joseph's.

Pathetic that they need to charge for bread. When paying $28 for a piece of fish with everything alacarte at least they should provide bread

Had a great meal. Lots of attractive options to choose from for food and drink. Nice view of the river with an option for outdoor seating on the river. Service was both attentive and entertaining and our party of four felt well taken care of.

Nice ambiance. I was pleasantly surprised with the quality of the food. Perfect place for a special occasion or a unique night out. (Indoor dining section)
There is also a more casual outdoor area, however, I have not experienced that yet. I will definitely check it out, next time.

Absolutely horrible food and service. French toast tasting like a cigarette ash had been burned in it. It was 2 pieces of bread that they charged $12 for. Have no problem paying the prices if the actually food is amazing. Husband had corned beef that was literally just fat. Over easy eggs that had no yoke to them. When we let the waitress know after we had to flag her down she said well that is how it is supposed to be. Never refilled our drinks or checked on us until we had to ask another waiter to get her. Do not recommend to anyone. Bad food and even worse prices.

All four of us had the walleye special, and I think it was the best restaurant meal I have ever had. Both the chef and the manager came to our table to make sure everything was perfect. The key lime dessert was also so very delicious.

Been a regular at Plank's since it opened. Consistently good food and service over the years. When the weather is good the outdoor areas are wonderful for a dinner, brunch, or music and drinks.

We had an amazing server who was wiling to move us outside for a more quiet experience. The food was awesome and he made sure my meal was prepared gluten free. Can't wait to visit Planks again!!

Great seating by the water. Service was a bit slow for our taste, we probably were sitting for about 5-6 minutes before anyone came by and talked to us. Our waiter was very up beat and friendly. Dinner was presented really well. The taste profiles were amazing. The only thing I didn't appreciate was that there were flies flying around us constantly inside while we ate dinner. Noise level was moderate, the inside temperature was perfect as it was hot and muggy outside. We will go back again.

Service and view were great but the food was so so for the price. Trout was good but had woody asparagus with it that should have been left off the plate. Wife’s scampi stuffed mushroom was blasé.

My husband's Angry Reuben was quite good, and the lemon salad was refreshing. I highly recommend the Zartar Trout Pita, though -- delightful and unexpected. The patio by the water was the perfect setting for such a pleasing lunch.

Nice spot overlooking the water. Of course, the weather was perfect for outdoor lunch. Service is very professional even in this casual setting. Menu was varied enough for everyone’s taste. Very tasty food, everyone as full by the time we left. We are looking forward to returning for an evening meal & cocktail.

Great location on the river. Service was excellent. Staff very friendly. For my taste the menu was trying a little hard to be “French “ Would prefer it be a little less pretentious. Food was prepared and presented well just not my taste. Would definitely go back and recommend but I would order a burger.

good Sunday brunch menu, food was good. It took a long time to get our food. Waitress was very attentive and kept us informed as to when food would come. The kitchen was busy due to full restaurant and a couple of large parties. I feel they should not accept more reservations when kitch is backed up or at least inform us before being seated of the long wait for food.

Besides the great view and the amazing food, we were overly impressed with the service. The staff clearly had our dining experience as their #1 priority, not whose table we were or if it was the waiters job. That pushed the evening over the top. Large, portions, stove hot food and the water view were well worth the drive!

This was our second visit this month (June) for dinner with friends. The meal did not disappoint but it took forever to receive our meal. Having something to munch on without needing to purchase an appetizer (including bread and butter) would be a nice touch for a restaurant at this price point. I suggest the wait staff provide the pricing for the specials that are not on the menu rather than having to ask. There should also be a way to reserve a table on the patio/deck when making reservations.

We come here very often. This last visit was with friends of ours who had never been to Planks before. We each ordered something different and each dish was amazing. One friend ordered the fresh oysters and said they were soooo fresh and good. And she's picky with her oysters! the entire staff takes great care of us every time we visit. We adore Paul...he puts so much care into every facet of his work and it shows. The chefs are talented and create beautiful, delicious dishes. It's our favorite place to eat.

Menu limited and need more moderate priced selections.

We have been to Planks several times and this was the worst service we ever had there. We had made reservations and requested to sit outside. Unfortunately the temperature dropped considerably and by our 8:00 reservation time, it was just too chilly to eat outside. The restaurant had closed its main dining room so there were no inside tables available. The hostess graciously had two tables moved into the bar room for us and another couple who arrived shortly after us in the exact same predicament. We were seated first. When the other couple was seated, they were greeted immediately by their server and she took their drink order. We waited. Five or ten minutes later, as we were discussing leaving, our sever showed up. We ordered drinks, then an appetizer and dinner, and things went ok from there until our dinner was served. He asked how things looked when it was served, then he never returned. I was done with my dinner and waiting for a box for quite awhile, at least ten minutes. While we were waiting, the server at the next table presented that couple the dessert selections, which included tiramisu, my favorite. I was looking forward to having some. When our server finally got around to showing us the dessert options, maybe fifteen minutes later, there were only three left and none of them were tiramisu. I asked him about the tiramisu and he said, “I’m sorry, we just sold the last one.” So... I missed out on my favorite dessert due to bad service. Not cool.

I made this reservation for a Fathers Day celebration. Once again, even though, through the Open Table reservation I requested 2:15pm, indoors and by the windows we were asked upon arrival if we wanted to sit inside or out. Because the heat index prediction, when I made the reservation, was going to be around 100 degrees I would have left if they had no inside table available. We probably should have left any way.

So we were seated inside yah! Sat us with menus that were breakfast and lunch, then the waitress took our drink order. We were surprised with the menu being Fathers Day but had each found something we wanted. Then I saw several large platters of fruit go by and when the waitress return we asked if there was a brunch going on? She said yes, that we were welcome to check it out and the price was $27.50. So we checked it out and decided to have the brunch. Ordered, went to filled our plates and returned to the table a little after 2:30pm. We were not told that the brunch ended at 3:00pm, but what was worse is the waitress returned shortly after us starting to eat and informed us that the brunch table would start to be broken down at 2:45pm! Our daughter shortly there after got up to get another plate before things were removed, the waitress immediately showed up to remove her plate that had hardly been touch, of course we stopped her and said we’re feeling very rushed so so she went back to get some other items. So to say this was a fun relaxing Fathers Day celebration would be a full out lie. The food was less then the quality expected, but it was the “end of the brunch” and we should not have been allowed to order it. Many items had little left by the time we got back to the table, not being replenished because it was almost over. So it’s really hard to give them a raving review.

Decided to try someplace new and are we glad we did! This is a delightful restaurant with outdoor seating on the River. There was a singer/guitar player at the pool adjacent to the outdoor seating (this is a resort). The bar inside is a classic design, dark woods and such. The outdoor bar by the pool is good-sized with plenty of seating. The service was wonderful and the food terrific. Both fish dishes we had were excellent and the portions were generous. The wine/beer/cocktail menu was extensive but not overwhelming.
Another plus is that Plank's Tavern takes reservations - something very few establishments along the lakeshore do.
