About PJ Moran's Pub & Restaurant

30 years ago, John Mahon and Eamonn Maher realized their dream. Their goal was to create a pub with old-world charm and warmth near the heart of the big city.
They wanted to create an up-scale pub that embraced its neighborhood roots. John and Eamonn had a vision of intimate booths and secluded tables with the smell of mahogany permeating through the room. They discovered a bar and restaurant that was as comfortable as your own living room. The space was in the perfect location where tourists, locals, and the business elite could sit side-by-side to enjoy a pint together. Located close to St. Patrick’s Cathedral, right down the block from Rockefeller Center and the bustling shops of 5th Avenue, they knew they had found their future home. There, in the space formerly known as "The Gathering Steakhouse," PJ Moran's was born.

One of the best burgers ever. Two had fish and chips and really enjoyed. The shepherds pie was unfortunately more mashed potatoes than meat and gravy. We will be back and we will pass on to friends.

Food was very good. Chicken sandwich with thaziki sauce on a pretzel bun. Service was good but slow on drink refills in their little glasses.

Convenient to Midtown...not a huge menu but it all looks appealing...had a salmon cake sandwich for Lenten Friday and it was messy as it crumbled in my hands, better to order it without the bread...service was terrific!

Oddly warm and welcoming, considering its location. Friendly service and a menu full of Irish pub classics. Prix Fixe menu option was a no-brainer. Soup/salad option to start, 3 choices for din (shank steak, lamb shank, lamb chops the nite we were there), and 2 dessert options. Nice respite if you're hitting midtown

Perfect Irish bar on 5th ave. Lots of options on lunch menu. Large selection of beers!! Only issue we faced was with their sign in system; they couldn't update the open table reservation while we were there and took our reservation name down so they can update open table once the systems were back up.

We will definitely visit again!!

Worst service I have ever experienced in my life - no one helped when we got in to be seated, we waited over an hour to be seated with reservation and we had to run around the restaurant to try and track down manager who could care less that us and other patrons had been waiting extremely long periods of time. Will never be going back or would ever recommend this restaurant.

The service was a little unfriendly. They were unclear about the dishes and one of the dishes came out not as ordered. The food was just ok. Not somewhere I would dine again.

Overall we enjoyed it. But our waitress came over no less than four times (in 5 mins) to try to get our order. The last time she actually stood next to us at our table and waited while we were looking at the menu. I had to tell her that we're not in any rush, I will wave you over when we have decided what we want. She gave me kind of a dirty look and walked off. The food was actually very good and the atmosphere was very good but I had to say once the food was delivered water glasses sat empty and they kind of forgot about us until they needed the table and then they came over and stripped everything off. Message received loud and clear we left right after. We chose to play simply because it was close to Rockefeller Center and St. Patrick's Cathedral and the other tourist hotspots. We were meeting a friend that was taking the train in from Long Island we hadn't seen in a long time.

Food was average and overpriced. Our waitress was very good. The reason I would never return is due to the obnoxious owner. Originally we were told our wait would be 10 minutes. This was with us having a reservation. After 45 minutes all I did was ask if he had any idea how much longer the wait would be. When he asked how many in my party I replied "6". Then I said we did have a reservation. He barked back at me "I didn't ask you if you had a reservation I only asked you how many people. It doesn't matter to me if you had a reservation". He was so nasty and rude. I would never again give my business to a person like him. As others have said, this is an excellent location so tourists give him all the business he needs.

Very busy and very crowded. And even with that, we were treated very nicely by everyone there. The food (especially the chicken skewer appetizer) was great. Everyone was happy with there food. And the children were thrilled that they were in an Irish pub. Could not have been better.

OK at best. Convenient to Rockefeller Center and St. Patrick's Cathedral. Host, manager was amazingly surly and unpleasant when we arrived. We were a party of six, on-time with a reservation, and making no demands...you would think we had just asked him for a personal loan.

The food is OK, but there are far better choices in this area than J.P. Morans.

We had a great meal at P J Moran's with some out of town friends after seeing the Radio City Christmas show. Great food, great atmosphere, and decorated really nicely for Christmas. The P J 's special burger is amazing! Will definitely come back when we are in this area of Manhattan again!

So the 2 hostess ladies were bickering with each other about availability and seating and how to manage the customer intake. It was disturbing and unprofessional in front of my children. Everyone seemed a little tipsy as well.

Upon arrival at 5:30PM, my party waited at least 7 minutes before being greeted. It was visibly busy, so I hopped onto Open Table to see what reservations times were available for that moment. The Open Table app had several available. Just to be on the safe side, I just clicked the next available time to hopefully streamline being able to have a table for our party of 9. You know, since we were still waiting for someone to greet us. Finally a gentleman came up to ask if we had been helped, and we informed him we had just made a 5:45 reservation while we were waiting. He sarcastically replied, "Why would you make a reservation when you're standing right in front of me?" Nice attitude. We told him it was because we had been standing there awhile and figured we'd just go ahead and basically put our names down. The actual hostess then came up, and the man who was "helping" us reprimanded her right in front of us because we had been waiting awhile. We were then told it would be at least a 25 min wait. I asked how that could be if Open Table was showing available reservations for "now". They just shrugged it off and said, "We don't control Open Table". That may be, but the unprofessionalism was enough to make us leave. At that point, it was not worth the wait.

Hostess sat us at table immediately, but service was incredibly slow. Finished our meal and had table cleared for a full 30 minutes before waiter checked on us again. Forgot our drinks; they arrived halfway through our entree . Shepherds pie was good, chicken pot pie was lukewarm and mediocre.

We went on St. Patrick's Day for a pre-theatre dinner, which is either a really good idea or a really bad one, depending on one's tolerance for crowds and noise. For an Irish pub, there's not much Irish pub food on the menu, though - Shepard's pie, fish and chips and corned beef and cabbage seemed to be it. The rest was standard any-pub food. I had Shepard's pie, which was good; my companion had a salad and Thai chicken skewers, which were deemed fine as well. My Guinness was properly poured, though it came in a plastic tumbler rather than a proper glass.

I probably will search out a more authentic Irish pub next time I'm in NYC.

We had reservations for a group of 11 to catch dinner before the Radio City Christmas show. I was concerned whether our table would be ready when promised because of a prior review and because it was the day after Thanksgiving which is a very busy time in the city. So we arrived early and had drinks with our group in the bar and our table was ready for us on time, even a bit early which worked out great for us. We enjoyed the appetizers in the bar with our drinks and then had a nice casual meal. We were out in plenty of time for our show. But we never felt hurried or rushed. The service was great. We had a good time and everyone in our group was happy with their experience.
