The food portion was so small we thought it was an appetizer.
We questioned it and returned it. They refused to increase the portion size, which was only pasta.
The manager was rude and did not know how to take care of the customer. We dined there several times a year

Was quite surprised at the "kitchen appreciation" charge. I would rather pay legitimate prices and have the restaurant pay legitimate wages. All this charge did was set a rather sour taste. We will not return .Ordered Gin and Tonics and had to ask several times to get limes. Even had to ask again when a 2nd round was ordered. Had to ask for bread. Expected more attentive service.
If you’re in the mood for pizza, steer clear. Go to Pizzeria Mozza in Newport Beach or North Italia in Irvine. Better staff, better ambience, better pizza.
We have been to Pizzeria Ortica in the past and it’s been acceptable; however, the past two times we’ve been there it’s been incredibly slow. It took 1 hour for our food to come... our waitress was clearly embarrassed, because she didn’t know what was going on. When a senior member of staff came to speak to us she was rude and patronizing. She said that their pizza ovens only hold 6 at a time and if we want our food faster we should order in advance. The restaurant wasn’t even as busy as it has been in the past. It does not take 1 hour to cook three pizzas. They clearly forgot our order and didn’t want to admit to it. In any case, we will not be returning.
Overall the food and service was excellent. The ambiance was very good and felt authentic. I did not like the table choices. Since it was a small place the tables were small and lined up, so you felt like you could not have a conversation without the tables around you knowing your business.
Why it has taken me so long to write a review about Pizza Ortica I do not know, but after my last dinner there I made the time to write this one. We made a 6:45 reservation to be seated and have enough time for dinner before our show at the Segerstom Center at 8 PM. We were seated promptly at our reservation time and our server “D” I think is full name was Demetrio, greeted us and asked us if we were going to see a show. From that point on to the end of our meal the service was perfect. D was attentive without being obtrusive and was so polite. We shared starters of Butter Lettuce salad and a Margherita pizza with Buffalo Mozzarella, both excellent. My wife had the Ricotta Gnocchi for her main and I selected the Bucatini pasta. I got a taste of the Gnocchi, wonderfully done with light yet firm Gnocchi enriched with a wonderful blend of tomatoes, peppers and capers. My Bucatini (thicker spaghetti like pasta with a hole in the center) was amazing. The pasta done perfectly Al Dente and the braised spare rib ragu just splendid. The restaurant is narrow and long and at times may be a bit loud. A tip to those going to the theater, park in the garage and validate you parking ticket at Ortica, you will have free parking for the show.
My wife and I have eaten at Pizzeria Ortecia at least 10 times in the last two years and have always had a great experience. The food is fresh, delicious and expertly prepared and served. The hand crafted cocktails are outstanding. This is one of my favorite restaurants in Orange County.
The menu selection and quality have dipped significantly and the ambiance was next to nothing on a Saturday evening. It's to bad as this used to be one of our favorite restaurants to visit. Hopefully the new chef and GM will make some changes to get the restaurant back to the level it once was.
Very good pizza in a lofty, very Italianate, gallery-style space. It reminds a little of places in Milan. Mozza (Newport Coast) has a bigger name and is a great place, very well-deserving of its accolades, but equally so is this place, which has a slightly more complete menu than Mozza. Hard by South Coast Plaza and the Segerstrom, it is also easier to get to. The service is great; I think our server was named Shelly (Sherry??), super nice/wine knowledgeable. The wine list is quite good with some vintages with age (a 2008 Barolo and a special grappa each got copious praise from my client). Very good pizza (fennel sausage), olive appetizer and Brussels sprouts w/hazelnuts. Nice octopus appetizer. We'll be back.
completely short handed and the service was not up to par.
spilled water on every glass that the person was pouring, and not enough effort to make the customer want to return back.

Booked the restaurant for Mother's Day and everyone was very happy with the food and service. The one drawback was that I wanted to add 3 people to the reservation and was told they were at capacity and there was no way to add additional people. However, I am not sure if there were cancellations or what but the restaurant was pretty empty when we arrived and when we left. Thus they could have accommodated the additional family members easily.
There was a glitch with the reservation, we made it for 4 people but the restaurant only had us down for 2 people. They told us they would seat us but we had to be out by a certain time because they needed the table back. We were there for a special Mother's Day brunch so this was very disappointing. That being said this was not the restaurants fault and they accommodated us to the best of their ability. The service was exceptional
And the food delicious as always. Just disappointed to be rushed because of a problem with open table.
We have been fans of Pizzeria Ortica for years. Unfortunately, the menu has changed recently and now we found ourselves hunting for something to order. The pizzas seemed to have stayed the same but the pastas and apps have changed. It's like the chef is trying to be so creative, everything just comes across as slightly weird. Gone is the fabulous bruschetta app and the lamb ragu pasta. The food was good but sometimes its better to just stick with some simpler dishes that are delicious. I don't like to hunt to find something that sounds good so we might not be back for awhile. The staff is always lovely and the ambiance is great, I just don't like the menu any longer.
I have dined at Pizzeria Ortica dozens of times, and although the service has always been questionable, I chose the venue for its proximity to the Performing Arts Center.
Friday evening, May 5th was a disaster. My guest and I arrived very early and told the waiter and hostess what time it was necessary to leave. We ordered right away, and was shocked that after a half hour, and constant reassurance that our order was almost ready and others who had arrived considerably after us had been served, we still had nothing to eat. We finally asked for bread.
After another 15 minutes we finally said throw together a quick salad to go with the pizza, as it was time to leave. We were then told that the chicken dish took longer to prepare. Had we known this, we would never had made this selection. We should have been told this when we placed our order.
So, forty five minutes after we ordered, we were served...too late to really do anything but grab a few tastes and leave.
The service and attitude of management was less than professional. What a disappointment!!!
Usually go to Pizza Ortica before a show. Service can be slow, so I like the fact that our Server asked if we were seeing a show/ how much time did we have? etc. LOVE the pizza with the fried egg (Milanese?). Best pizza on menu. Only "gripe" is, we would like to see a more reasonably priced "house" red and white wine on the menu. Most of the wines are too expensive, and some of the less expensive ones are a bit obscure!
Nicest staff imaginable. Group of 6 of us came in right before closing on a Saturday night. They could not have been more accommodating. The Neapolitan-style pizza is wonderful, thin and crispy with very fresh tasting ingredients. And the cocktails are thoughtful and delish.
Pizzeria Ortica is a local gem that is still outstanding. The pizzas here are the star of the show, with a wood fired crust thats both flaky and satisfying next to the nice array of fresh, quality ingredients. The wine list is well curated and offers a varied selection of both New and Old World styles. The salads, particularly the burrata are also notable and well worth a try. I look forward to my next visit!
The food was below average... at best. They're known for their pizza, but the marina sauce was tasteless and OVER salted!!! The pasta dish my husband ordered looked like a child's portion and also lacked flavor. We went to the restaurant because of its location; the restaurant is a stone's throw from the theatre. Never again. Except for the location there is no reason to go back. I'm amazed that this restaurant had been able to survive 8 years (according to the waitress). So many pre-theatre restaurants in the area - my advice: skip this one!!
