Online reservations at Pizzaiolo - Oakland can only be made directly on their website.
The restaurant takes dark to a new level. Luckily my wife had a small flashlight on her key chain so she could actually read the menu. The food was delicious and the service was great.
Just a wonderful place to gather and enjoy great food. Don't let the past troubles of the restaurant deter you from enjoying and supporting our gem of a restaurant!
Outstanding pizza, farm to table cuisine. Constantly changing menu based on season. Favorite dining experience in the area
I think our server was named Paul. Excellent, attentive , went the extra mile for us for our birthday celebration. Food was fabulous. We were almost fighting over the pasta. Thank you!
Banging loved it more than most other fancy pizza places
Amazing Pizza, this is going to be my go to Pizza / Bread location every visit to the area. I want a standing reservation. Strong cocktail list and handcrafted. Appreciated the General Manager working the floor and checking in with us as well.
The restaurant was empty - I’ve eaten here since it opened and have never seen it so empty. Apparently Charlie Hallowell is not taking any money from the restaurant right now so come eat here! It isn’t the same without the customers... and the employees are suffering.
This is our favorite restaurant!
As usual, Pizzaiolo did not disappoint. Pizza was delish, pork ragu with pappardelle was excellent, as was the roasted broccoli. Polenta with mascarpone was a good vegetarian option. Service was very attentive.
Real deal pizza. No, not like round table/dominos/Pizza Hut.... REAL pizza
I love that they have a “kid friendly” menu. Only complaint is that it’s too dark - candlelight dining taken too far. Seemed like that was the only light available. But overall, stellar!
We always enjoy Pizzaiolo. It is one of our few go-to restaurants, consistently delicious.
Pizza dough in center was soggy. Would ask to have it cooked longer.
We love introducing family and friends to Pizziaolo! The staff is amazing and works with us when we need to to make changes to our reservation, even at the last minute. The servers are wonderful and of course the food is fresh and fantastic. Everyone we have ever taken to Pizziaolo loves it!
Always a good place to gather with friends for a cozy meal with great service and creative seasonal food.
Incredible new year's Eve menu, included crab and ribeye steak. I've always loved the food here, but tonight was off the charts!!
Wish meatballs and fried chicken were on menu
Food was great. Staff is upbeat, friendly and competent. Our table was well-looked after - dishes were described when they arrived, empty dishes taken away promptly, water glasses always full. It was a wonderful evening.
We were celebrating our son's graduation, so the hostess gave us a booth--which was awesome. The food was delicious, ambiance festive (but not too loud), and the wait staff were excellent. Thank you and Happy New Year! We'll definitely be back.
I arrived about 40 minutes early with my date. Upon arriving, the staff immediately checked us in, and since my date and I were early, we ordered some wine at the bar and conversed. When our table was ready, we were kindly seated and given time to order.
LONG STORY SHORT: Food was great, staff was (in my opinion) even better! Staff was EXCEPTIONAL, very friendly, accommodating, and had personality! I would highly recommend! Great alcohol selection, food was fresh and tasty, and dessert was surprisingly great as well!
P.S. My Date and I stayed past closing, to which the staff didn't kick us out, they allowed us to relax a bit, finish our conversation, and then go. A+ to the staff again for cleaning to an Erykah Badu playlist over the speakers. Dope!
I made an online reservation and received a phone reminder, during which I stated that we were coming straight from the airport and could be delayed. She immediately adjusted my reservation time and told me if we were delayed further just to call and let them know and they'd hold our table. Our server was delightful and gave us some great suggestions for her favorites and how to share them family style. One recommendation I would make is to include instructions on where to park, both online and on the phone, since it's not intuitive when arriving.
Live in San Diego and found this restaurant quite by accident on Yelp. The service was superb....we didn't like our table and they switched it immediately. The menu is so interesting and I honestly haven't had such creative delicious Italian food since I lived in New York. Everything we ordered was so perfectly seasoned and we both remarked that the chef has a superb, attention to detail palette. We even ordered a pizza to share and it too, was perfect.
We were very disappointed at the just-ok food and higher prices. Pizzaiolo has been our go to local spot for years, but may reconsider. Skip the blah salads and salty entres and enjoy the terrific pizzas.
We LOVE Pizzaiolo! I've never had a bad meal here- the food is creative, delicious and local. The ambiance is cozy and sweet, the staff is great. If it weren't so pricey I'd be there every week!
Still as good as ever. We had a delicious time. Aviv is an outstanding bartender and treated us like royalty. Cod fritters, fried chicken dinner and citrus salad all terrific.
We were late to our reservation due to traffic. They still accommodated us even though our original table was given away. Hostess was so nice!
Pizza was soggy. 😳
The food was yummy from a simple little gems salad with delicious dressing, to a wild mushroom-gremolata pizza to a NY rib-eye steak. And so was the wine - an Argentinian Malbec. The atmosphere is very lively and energetic, warm and friendly, not quiet. We had some bumps this time in service - drinks and later pizza were very slow, unusually so, and the management acknowledged that by not charging for a cocktail and a glass of wine. We appreciated the way they took care of us, though our server acted a little distant and uninterested throughout the meal. But we love this restaurant and will continue to come back for the atmosphere, food and usually good service.
Very good pizza, some of the best in the Bay
Area. Potato, pancetta and fontina pizza is excellent.
The food is very good and the staff matches the quality of the kitchen.
Music is too loud and frankly not very good.
Pizzaiolo was a bucket list destination and it lived up to the hype.
I'm not overly impressed with the food. We ordered pizza, which we were told was tomato, cheese and sausage. The predominant ingredient (besides the dough) was the red onions. If we were told by the wait staff that this was included we wouldn't have ordered as I'm unable to eat them (so embarrassing to have to pick at your food). Others ordered a salad, and for $12 they got lettuce leaves (various types), with a light dressing and heavily salted. I believe we were charged a bit more for a wine we did not order. We had a special birthday and they didn't bother offering anything to the birthday person. It was so dark that we couldn't read the menu's (without help) and the music was a tad bit loud to be able to carry on conversations across the table. Meatballs were tasty and the bread is absolutely incredible.
I love wood fired pizza and was excited to try Pizzaiolo. Our server was excellent, very attentive. We ordered the Margarita di Bufala. We were told It was thin crust (which I love) and about 12 inches in diameter. When it came out I was already disappointed before even trying it. It looked like they poured a half cup of olive oil on top and there were just a few pieces of mozzarella. The crust was a soggy, oily mess. I ate the piece I took, but no more. It was that terrible. Sadly to say we won’t be going back.
Always a great experience With all the Pizzaiolo crew.
Wonderful service, food, ambiance. We were impressed with the starter salads and the pizza alike. Loved the lighting inside, it is warm and inviting, not pretentious at all. Service and staff top notch. A new favorite!
Great atmosphere and food!
Can't think of a better place for pizza.
Wonderful appetizers and solid desserts.
The food really speaks for itself although they are smaller in portion size for the price point. This place is very loud at peak times. Service is hit or miss. House made tonic for cocktails and awesome baked in house bread.
Disappointing from cocktail to pizza. Dessert was excellent, however. Salad fresh and good.
Visited Pizzaolo on Saturday night prior to a concert. Food was excellent. I would call our table "challenging" in terms of food ordering. We were trying to order enough to satisfy no-red-meat, no cheese preferences. The 2 salads we ordered (1 based on persimmon, the other on tuna) were an excellent accompaniment to the 2 pizzas we shared. Any restaurant that has both chanterelle and potato offerings on its pizza list in addition to the regular marinara and marguerita offerings has my vote.
But best about the dinner was our server, who kindly received all the debating and questions between us. Thank you for making our dinner a good one!
My goddaughter in Austin, TX asked me to meet her new housemate who was in Oakland on business and I had not yet had the opportunity to meet. Although there are many Millenial-friendly restaurants and bars in Oakland now, I chose Pizziolo because I wanted to treat her to something special but also be in a low-key, comfortable space where its quiet enough to talk and get to know one-another. We split a bottle of Sangiovese wine, a salad and a pizza. As always, the food was delicious, the waitperson professional, and the atmosphere welcoming. We had a lovely dinner and conversation and I was so glad I chose Pizziolo.
Why are my meatballs crunchy? Pine nuts!! They were the most delicious meatballs I have ever tasted. Served with a hunk of fresh lightly toasted Italian bread. I need to go back for the pizza. I watched three pies get devoured before my eyes. Committed to the meatballs I wasn't quick enough to grab a slice.
Great staff, great food, overall wonderful experience. Always a pleasure to dine at Pizzaiolo!
