Pizzaiolo - Oakland
When the day is done, the thinking that seems to matter most is that we are taking part in a web of human interaction. The food you eat at Pizzaiolo is 100% down-home human-made.

Top quality food. Even the olive oil on the salad was exceptional. A must for pizza lovers.
I had not been to Piazzaiolo for more than a year. Today did not disappoint...great place...food great with the exception of the chicken...it was not cooked enough.
Pizzaiolo has never cared about customer comfort. The lightning is so dim you need your iPhone flashlight, the music volume is set above conversation level, the seats are uncomfortable and the place was boiling hot with little ventilation.
Most of the food was very good but they sent out an underdone pizza, which we sent back.
If you’re older, Pizzaiolo is an unfriendly venue. But most of the crowd is young and, frankly, will take whatever punishment the restaurant gives them. You know, cause it’s so, so hip.
great food. great playlist. the cod was perfection. we shall return. 🤘🏼
Food was delicious and ambience was lively.
Our waitress was wonderful. I always appreciate it when servers take time to explain menu items and don't make you feel stupid for not knowing certain ingredients or wanting to know how a dish is served. The service is always wonderful at Pizzaiolo!!
Excellent food and service
Pizzaiola is a highlight of the Temescal neighborhood. I’ve been there a number of times and have never had a bad meal, time or experience.
Love the atmosphere and attention to detail. Service was perfect and as always, well prepared and distinctive flavors.
My husband, daughter and I come every year on valentines and it never disappoints!
Food was great.
Very perfunctory service. Lacked basic wait table skills. More interested in picking up dirty dishes from the table than even asking us if we wanted another glass of wine or if everything was ok. Food is very well prepared but portions are small. They have an excellent cocktail menu, though, but I would stick to the pizza when ordering food.
Pizza was memorable, along with mussels and spaghetti! Cocktails outstanding!
We got 3 pizzas and they were all too oily and bland - no flavors. The service was slow and inattentive. Overpriced place for what you get. This isn’t the Pizzaiolo that I remember from a few years back.
The food was awful. Save your money. Citrus salad in a pool of blended herbs, rockfish fried to a crisp. Was there really any fish in there? And sitting in a pool of sauce. Really... everything we ate was terrible.
I love the food here always fresh and delicious. The pasta is al dente and my friend loved his pizza.
I would like more green salads. The little gem was okay covered in dressing. Butter lettuce and a little escarole with fresh wild herbs and arugula is always good with a simple excellent olive oil dressing.
Bread is delicious! Simple with top quality ingredients always gets it done. More ice cream on desert it is so good
Love this chef, new incredible menu every day
I have been eating at Pizzaiolo for years. Staff has always been kind and and accommodating. Food is still delicious and I also come for the ambiance. Restaurant is comfortable, warm temperature, and the noise level is perfect for conversation.
The restaurant was so warm and cozy Saturday night. The pizza and appetizers were fabulous and loved the specials for restaurant week.
We had the sardine appetizer and the Brussels sprout pizza. Then Affogato for dessert. Every dish was delicious. The only problem with this place is the staff. What's with the attitude, people? Would it hurt you to be pleasant and helpful? Remember you work in a restaurant, serving people. Sorry, but that is your job. So do it!
Much has changed; not all for the better. They stopped using mozzarella di bufala, maybe cost, maybe convenience, but the pizze were really not special anymore. The wine list was spartan and greatly over priced. The only NW Pinot Noir was offered at over 80 a bottle. Nothing less than 60 a bottle. For fine dining and excellent wines, sure, if ouch. The wines were ok but not stellar; certainly not meriting this price. The ambience is peculiar. Pumping out background 'music' (if mediocre pop is music; I mean Paul McCartney and Wings?)...so the vibe I appreciated years ago is vanishing, the pride in work seems modest.
So so yummy! I brought my cousin there fo her first time. She wasn’t drinking alcohol at the time so the waiter offered a mock tail which was so so good. We split a salad, a pizza and an appetizer and everything was delicious! Can’t wait to come back.
In the past I loved Pizzaiolo, although it's been a while since I've been there. I chose it to celebrate a very special occasion and my birthday a few days ago, but was so very disappointed with the experience. I was with two young people who wear hearing aids, and the music was so loud it was very difficult for them to participate in the conversation. I asked 4 times to have the volume turned down, but nothing changed. I thought the music would have been very appropriate for a bar scene of 20-somethings. If I didn't want to have conversation, I may have enjoyed it, but it absolutely interfered with our dining experience. I truly felt so bad about this, as I was bringing guests from out of state, who found they "endured" the evening rather than enjoyed it.
Amazing food. Lively scene. A little loud.
Yummy food and nice atmosphere.. a bit pricy
Best east bay restaurant, consistently for years. Every dish was stellar and we had many.
This is probably my 10th time dining at Pizzaiolo, but I hadn't been in over a year. It has been a favorite. The service was abysmal (chaotic, neglectful) even though only about half of the tables full. We had to wait over 30 minutes after our appetizers were served for our entrees, which again didn't make sense since the restaurant was not full or busy. Food was mostly solid, but serving the entrees 5 minutes apart for each guest didn't make for a very cohesive dining experience. My table agreed (long time Pizzaiolo fans as well) that this was our last time at this restaurant.
The burrata appetizer: to die for. The tuna, almost as good.
Fantastic food and service, never misses. Wholeheartedly recommend!
Marissa was our bartender was fantastic as always!!
The place is an Oakland original and it is always freaking magical.
Good as always, Always worth going.
Sardines not quite as flavorful this time but still good.
Stereo a bit loud but we happened to be right below the speaker so that was probably it.
Such a fantastic experience. One of my top 5 favorites of all.
Two of the seven of us have been to The restaurant. We all loved it!! Everything we ordered was delicious.
The food - as always - was stellar. Every single dish was wonderful. And you must try the homebaked bread, and no matter what else you get, you gotta have one of the pizzas.
Our waitperson, though, was spectacularly inattentive. When she wasn't actively at our table when it was necessary, she was unseen, wouldn't look in our direction - twice we had to be 'rescued' by another server who saw us trying to get her attention & felt sorry for us. She also charged us for an item we ordered but never received.
Perhaps she was having a bad night. Go for the food & the ambiance. I'm not sure what's up with management and whether they've solved all their Charlie-related problems from the last few years, but I'm hoping so.
First time here, had the summer squash, tomatoes, onions and nuts as an appetizer, delicious! Then a pizza w prosciutto and sausage equally delicious, We’ll be back.
I haven't been in a while and I must say I'm going back again. The food was terrific, as was the service. We had the house tonic for cocktails (yum), the lamb meatballs (like, OMG) and the fried chicken and broccoli. It was all just so tasty. Service was great too and I've always liked the ambiance of the place. Really a wonderful meal. Two drinks each and food and tip was about $150.
Food was decent. Wine pours small, service atrocious.
Celebrated a birthday. Food was so flavorful and portions are just right. Service was excellent and well-paced. Highly recommend it for casual and special dinners.
We LOVE Pizzaiolo and have been coming to this restaurant since it opened many years ago. A total good vibes place with great food!
