When the day is done, the thinking that seems to matter most is that we are taking part in a web of human interaction. The food you eat at Pizzaiolo is 100% down-home human-made.
Best east bay restaurant, consistently for years. Every dish was stellar and we had many.
This is probably my 10th time dining at Pizzaiolo, but I hadn't been in over a year. It has been a favorite. The service was abysmal (chaotic, neglectful) even though only about half of the tables full. We had to wait over 30 minutes after our appetizers were served for our entrees, which again didn't make sense since the restaurant was not full or busy. Food was mostly solid, but serving the entrees 5 minutes apart for each guest didn't make for a very cohesive dining experience. My table agreed (long time Pizzaiolo fans as well) that this was our last time at this restaurant.
The burrata appetizer: to die for. The tuna, almost as good.
Fantastic food and service, never misses. Wholeheartedly recommend!
Marissa was our bartender was fantastic as always!!
The place is an Oakland original and it is always freaking magical.
Good as always, Always worth going.
Sardines not quite as flavorful this time but still good.
Stereo a bit loud but we happened to be right below the speaker so that was probably it.
Such a fantastic experience. One of my top 5 favorites of all.
Two of the seven of us have been to The restaurant. We all loved it!! Everything we ordered was delicious.
The food - as always - was stellar. Every single dish was wonderful. And you must try the homebaked bread, and no matter what else you get, you gotta have one of the pizzas.
Our waitperson, though, was spectacularly inattentive. When she wasn't actively at our table when it was necessary, she was unseen, wouldn't look in our direction - twice we had to be 'rescued' by another server who saw us trying to get her attention & felt sorry for us. She also charged us for an item we ordered but never received.
Perhaps she was having a bad night. Go for the food & the ambiance. I'm not sure what's up with management and whether they've solved all their Charlie-related problems from the last few years, but I'm hoping so.
First time here, had the summer squash, tomatoes, onions and nuts as an appetizer, delicious! Then a pizza w prosciutto and sausage equally delicious, We’ll be back.
I haven't been in a while and I must say I'm going back again. The food was terrific, as was the service. We had the house tonic for cocktails (yum), the lamb meatballs (like, OMG) and the fried chicken and broccoli. It was all just so tasty. Service was great too and I've always liked the ambiance of the place. Really a wonderful meal. Two drinks each and food and tip was about $150.
Food was decent. Wine pours small, service atrocious.
Celebrated a birthday. Food was so flavorful and portions are just right. Service was excellent and well-paced. Highly recommend it for casual and special dinners.
We LOVE Pizzaiolo and have been coming to this restaurant since it opened many years ago. A total good vibes place with great food!
This continues to be one of my favorite restaurants ever. It is like being home with a great chef in the house
Salads were uninspired when they were so great before. Pizza was burned and paper thin. Buffalo mozzarella on pizza was chewy like gum. But others seemed to enjoy their meals and it was full.
Pizza was a bit soggy in the middle. Sole it was a bit too salty. Expected more for the price.
Great place, the pizza crust was soggy, all the other food was stellar!
What a fun cozy place and the food is delish. We will be back.
So good and consistent. Always a great meal. They never fail to disappoint.
One of our mains came very late after our other three meals were finished. In fact, we had dessert menus before my husband got his main course. Shoddy. The server tried to make it up to us by comping us a dessert. Sadly, I don’t think we’ll be back to this old fave.
We asked to be seated on the patio, as I'm hard of hearing and much better outdoors....while they said they could not confirm until day of reservation, they had our party of 8 on the patio, and menus printed with a heading for the special event we were celebrating. Service was attentive, knowledgable, but not intrusive; food was outstanding, especially corn and halibut fritters, and melon with prosciutto and other tasties...several folks said they would be back! Wine list is not extensive, but we sprang for the champagne and a sancerre--both excellent
It was nice
better than ever on all fronts. i will call out the wine list here. the list is much more creative than it used to be. 4 or 5 years ago we would always pay corkage and bring our pwn. but now the wine list equals the great food, making the whole experience terrific!
Great pizza, dessert, and cocktails.
My family, some friends and I visited Pizzaiolo for dinner.
We had 5 Margherita and 1 Marinara with olives, some lemonades and a local lager.
Pizza is very good, well leavened and matured, as well as cooked.
The ambience is nice, but too dark ... you need an additional light to read the menu.
Staff are friendly, but they look in a hurry.
Price is definitely high!
Overall a good experience with a Neapolitan pizza!
Dsat outside on the patio since it was a warm night which was great. Food was good as always and the craft cocktails were yummy!
We always have a great meal and enjoy the atmosphere and service!
Food was good quality, small quantity. Salad was a handful of arugula, but certainly tasty. Pizza was thin crust and not much cheese, but also tasty.
It was very hot that day and this place had no AC on, meaning we were sweating during our whole meal.
I’d go back here on a cool day and if I wasn’t really hungry.
If you want authentic Italian pizza, come to Pizzaiolo; Fresh ingredients, thin crust, and light sauce.
Consistently great
Pizzaiolo is one of my fave restaurants ever! The staff tonight was more phenomenal than ever. I came for my birthday celebration and their attention to detail was amazing. They made sure to hand me the menus that said "happy birthday" and even remembered to bring my dessert with a candle without anyone in my party having to remind them.
I love that an experience can be elevated yet relaxed at the same time. The food is delicious... melt in your mouth bites from beginning to end.
Still great
Service was slow and the food portions were a very poor value.
Fun atmosphere, nice service, food quality and portions perfect. Nice wine and cocktail service too!
I haven't been to Pizzaiolo since Jen Louise departed, but found myself there for dinner on Sunday. We were in the mood for a low key pizza/salad type of supper. How was it? Pretty much the perfect meal, shared with my chosen family on their patio on a warm Sunday evening.
Baby heads salad with beautiful stone fruit, beets, and the perfectly balanced vinaigrette.
Halibut Fritters of which dreams are made of.
Meatballs and pasta. OMG.
Pizza with cherry tomatoes and prosciutto (?) that was like taking a slow savory bite of summer.
Baked stonefruit dessert with earl grey ice cream.
I even loved the couple totally making out (in front of their child) during dinner which is weird (the food!) but still, it worked.
Already planning our return.
Pizzaiolo is one of my favorite restaurants. It is consistently good food & the service is always excellent!
Was extremely hot inside and no table available outside.
